I am saying you can get out of the wat of line drives with wood and not metal.
If I threw 95 and Pujols hit a shot up the middle I would get drilled (but be dead with metal if it was in the head)

When I pitch with wood (im a pretty good fielder) I have never come close to getting hit with the ball. I catch hard shots up the middle like nothing. That last year in school with metal I got drill in the shin with an aluminim bat and I didnt even move- there was no way I could have.I also remeber a kid hitting a line drive about 2 feet to the right of my glove and by the time I got my glove up the ball was by second base. I catch it easy off a wood bat. Metal bats are a fucken joke.

The truth about wood vs. aluminum.. aluminum bats that are -3 are just as safe as a wooden bat.. When aluminum bats were legal at the HS level at -5 is when there were issues.. Remember bat speed is what the lighter aluminum bats gave hitters and bat speed is what generates power...

When you have a 6foot 185lbs plus kid swinging a 34 / 29 is when other kids could get hurt.. As far as the sweet spot goes on a 8 to 12 grain woody its similiar to any aluminum.. Aluminum bats do give hitters the added insurance of fist shots falling in, but fists shots don't travel 300 feet or 120 miles a hour...

To make a long story short a well balance -3 aluminum is just as safe as any wood... Avg. go up with aluminum because pitchers cannot beat hitters inside because you can't saw off a hitter with a aluminum bat....

And thats why they play the game.

Yeah, i could go deep in BP, and think so with ease.

Played a game on Three Rivers at age 18 and hit one off the wall. Think with 10 pitches i could get 2 or more to go over 300 pretty easily.

I don't think so if you compare the sweet spots of the two.

Well you would be wrong. Aluminum much more pop. Borderline dangerous.

the guys who think they could hit a homerun with no problem are hilarious. i was watching some thing on espn2 last week where nfl players were playing homerun derby. i watched jake delhomme and chad johnson take about 20 swings each and i think they hit one over the real fence at whatever park they were at.

these are nfl athletes...and damn good ones. come on!

^ blue.. your statment shows how little you actually know about hitting a baseball... lmao.. Chad Johnson. T.Owens, Jerry Rice ETC. could not play junior college baseball let alone DI... Lets take a look at MJ when he ventured into baseball.. The greatest Basketball player of all time with a baseball background and he could barely hit .240.. Now take any minor league ball player or DI hitter and match them up vs. these guys that are all pro's in others sports... The Single A hitter or former ballplayer MUCH better at hitting, much better at the game... Not even close...

RoyalFan.. ALuminum bats have been proven to supply the same amount of "pop" as a wood when there -3 or less.. The -3 aluminum is now standard..

you're comparing nfl and nba players to the posters in this forum? hilarious. my bet is that most of the guys posting in here cant even runa round the block without throwing up.

while i'm sure that you could easily hit every pitch out of fenway using a wet newspaper...maybe you should just stick to touting.

your combaring the people that siad the could hit a HR at a big league park to your non-athletic self... Just because your a poor example of a man does not mean others on here have not had a background in athletics son.. I played 4 years of div1 baseball and 3 years of pro ball... I guarantee you I would hit 3 out of 10 out... No question....

First of all, I agree the deminsions of major parks are similar to many college and high school parks. But remember, most of the time, those players are using aluminum bats. If you're going up against high school pitching, hitting one out at Fenway, Yankee or any major league stadium is easily within reason. Hitting one out against a major league pitcher, would likely be a different story. But have to agree, hitting one our at a major league park would be real cool.

I wasn't talking about against a MLB pitcher! Geez!

I was talking about taking BP at a MLB park...

I played on a field my whole teenage years that was 315 down the line, and pretty much anyone that was decent could reach annapolis rd , over that fence....it might sound laughable to most I dunno, I really didn't think it was a big deal....

I stand by what I said I could throw the ball up to my self and reach the seats, just thought it would be cool to bat in a big league park.

I doubt Journey, but hey we can all dream. This reminds me of the discussions about women around here "yeah I wouldn't touch her" stuff when we all know the truth is different.

My thought is if you got every poster in here who hasn't played organized ball within the last 3 years and gave him 10 outs in Skankee Stadium for Home Run Derby, the over/under on how many would go deep is 1.5. Yeah if we give everyone 50 cuts maybe one gets out, but lets put a little pressure on them and very few will respond well. It all looks easy on TV, but get out there and it is a lot tougher.

No chance of me hitting one out now. I have found in the past that I do not realize how much I have lost over the years. The mind still wants to do it, the body just can't respond. Age humbles all of us, some of you young ones just haven't found it out yet, LOL.

Played hoops about 2 years ago with some kids after running my mouth, couldn't believe how bad I had gotten. Played nothing like I remembered I used to play. Watching them from the sidelines I almost felt sorry for them when I got in, boy did that change quick.

There you go. Good post. I figured that the old -3, -5 stuff was common knowledge, so I didn't even mention it.

What are you doubting?:icon_conf

And why wouldn't we get a few practice swings, give anybody who is still in good shape a few days to get their swing down and I'm sure it would come back.

You know whats funny, I was out driving by a high school field this past weekend, I pulled over and walked down on the field to home plate...

I might just have to go buy 10 new hard balls and a bat, and get some kid to pitch to me.

Perhaps you're just giddy about your team advancing to the semis LOL....I'm sure this board has its share of fine athletes.
