I don't think there is a single location in Louisiana that would be deemed "one of the most safest places in America".

Not really mind-blowing either...happens all the time in one form or another.

Lafayette La has the least crime in the state of Louisiana .

This is not the backwoods part of Louisiana.
This town is the oil hub of the state.
Many Fourtune 500 oil companies have building right down the road from the theater .
About 1 mile from the famous oil center.

This is one of the most affluent areas in the whole state.
If you could predict an area that would be the least likely part of Louisiana for this to happen this would be it.

Not all of Louisiana is like the ghetto part of New Orleans.
This area is about as safe as it gets

And I saw a movie in that very cinema just 2 or 3 weeks ago.

#14.

Same one I was in.

lol. I think some here might be more comfortable living in a socialist police state utopia, where no one has guns and everyone has to check in before they leave their home, and everyone is safe all the time.

There seems to be a concerted effort to create a society of fear. My kneejerk reaction is to say false flag. Then if Im proven wrong, fine. I know people love their country but I think where the money counts geopolitical lines dont.

My thoughts as well. I've lived in Carencro and Lafayette and am shocked, saddened that this happened there. I remember it as a very peaceful and safe place, Carencro was "Country". I used to frequent The Keg and Shanahan's, prolly both long gone by now, likely near where this happened though...when they existed.

Come on now?
How long ago?

The Keg is still going strong and you are correct .
Not that for from The Grand. I would say 1.5 miles tops .

Its very very safe.

Extremely conservative .
Lafayette is the only major city in Louisiana with no video poker or casinos.
Its an extemely safe place.

Your perception of LouisiAna is way off.

I guarantee you where I live is much safer then where you live .

Well I can't absolutely guarantee it but I would bet money on it.

I don't even lock my door to my house half the time.

I believe it was 1986 when I lived there. The latest it could have been was '88 but an outside chance exists it was as early as Mid-Late '85. I was back in 1990 (briefly, like, 2 weeks).

A very long time ago, whenever it was. Oil was "down", many were hurting the economy was not good. You know well how it's been "Feast or Famine" there in the past. Even in that down time though it was safe, peaceful. Thats why I typed what I did. I've got great memories of that area. The College was called something different than it is now, I can't recall but I think the teams were still called "Ragin' Cajuns". Louisiana is among our most unique & interesting states.

I'm amazed The Keg is still going, thats incredible. I really loved that place so I'm glad to hear it has withstood Time. Especially memorable "Fat Tuesdays" down there on "The Strip" I think they called it.....back then....street that had a few bars on it. Wildness. Lafayette people are fun.

Bobby Hebert came across the Bridge from Slidell to play QB for The Saints around the time I was in Lafayette so this is a serious clue as to when it was. Did you know Bobby? You was in Slidell.

Yea the keg and shannahans was right next door to each other on Mckinnley St.

The Keg is still alive and well.
Back when you lived in Lafayette it was called University of Southwestern Louisiana.(USL)

Now it's called UL-Lafayette or some call it Louisiana-Lafayette.

They are still the Ragin Cajuns.

This cinamea is around 2 miles from campus on Johnston St.
Take a right on St Mary then you hit Mckinnley St for the keg and shanahans .

The strip isn't what it use to be though.

I had to Google Turbo Dog, Abita Beer...wondering how I missed it. Abita Beer just getting born when I was there (formed in 1986) so I guess thats why I mainly drank Dixie Beer. It was said that Dixie was brewed from the water of the Mississippi River. At times it tasted as though that could have been true.

Obama really going after the 2nd Amendment now. :ohno:

Of course he is. You don't expect him to just let the country slowly turn into Iraq?

Was there a month ago for a wedding. Stayed at the dump Hollywood casino. Other than that place the whole area is pretty cool.

Talk to me after you spend 18 months in Afghanistan and fear for your life each day you wake up. Talk to me after you hear multiple car bombs shake your camp or you hear sniper fire from the distance. Talk to me after you see kids searching through the garbage for food. We aren't even close to that kind of place. Their houses get an hour of power per day. I'm more than comfortable on my laptop, in my recliner watching my flat screen.

Trust me, we live in the greatest country on earth and it's a dream come true compared to Iraq or Afghanistan.

dont talk to me until I have had my first cup of coffee! :)

And I know it's probably all in my head but I could swear I saw the killer in person a few weeks ago.
Im pretty good with faces and he sticks out in my mind for some reason.

But I have not been home very much the last few weeks so I was rarely home during the time he was in Lafayette

My cousin just left the local police about 3 months ago.
Unfortunate . If he was still there I could have gone to the scene and seen everything for myself.

Dont think I could pull that off right now
