BERLIN – A demonstration in Frankfurt against Operation Protective Edge erupted into violence, with protesters tossing stones at the police.

According to the Frankfurter Rundschau paper, about 2,500 protesters appeared in downtown Frankfurt, screaming “God is great,” and slogans such as “freedom for Palestine” and “children-murderer Israel.”

Eight police officers were injured. One sign at the rally was titled, “You Jews are Beasts.”

German media reported that after the protests, groups sought to locate Jewish institutions. The Frankfurt police said Jewish institutions would be protected. It is unclear if the goal was to attack said institutions.

According to the Rundschau, student organization Left-SDS, Islamists and some members of the Neo-Nazi group National Socialists Rhein-Main attended the anti-Israel protest. Flags from Turkey, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Hamas were on display at the protest. Banners compared Prime Minister Netanyahu with Adolf Hitler.

Supporters of Assad’s regime were also present at the protest.

In a bizarre act of cooperation, German journalist and publicist Thomas von der Osten-Sacken reported on the website of the weekly Jungle World that Frankfurt’s police allowed the demonstrators to use a police vehicle and loudspeaker to blast anti-Israeli slogans. According to a police statement, the authorities allowed the use of their equipment in order to deescalate the situation. The Jungle World article sarcastically titled its account, “The Police, Friend and Helper.”

A major hacking attack was carried out on Monday morning against some of Hamas's leading websites. For more than five hours various sites were disabled and others displayed content against Hamas and its leaders.
The leading Hamas site Shehab.ps displayed anti-Hamas headlines that when clicked played a video from Egyptian Television that was unfavorable to Hamas. In the video, from the Egyptian anti-Hamas website El-Balad, Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal is seen living a life of luxury. The anchor on the video says: "If Mashaal is man enough , why doesn't he take a plane from Qatar to Egypt . We would gladly open our border and let him enter the Gaza Strip, and then he can hide together with Hamas leader [Ismail] Haniyeh in a bunker underground."

President Barack Obama said he was encouraged by Egypt's proposal for a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinians and sided with Israel against what he called "inexcusable attacks."

The security cabinet was slated to convene on Tuesday morning to discuss a ceasefire deal proposed by Egypt.

Ma'an News Agency quoted a statement by Hamas's Kassam Brigades as saying that engineers in Gaza had the capability to manufacture three types of the Ababil drones that are capable of carrying out reconnaissance missions, bombing missions and suicide missions.

The organization claimed that one of its drones had succeeded in penetrating Israeli airspace all the way to Tel Aviv where it took pictures of the Kirya military headquarters.
Three drones carried out a number of sorties into Israel, according to the Kassam Brigades, who stated that they lost contact with one of the UAVs, presumably the drone shot down over Israel.
The IDF said that a Patriot missile battery had shot the Gazan drone out of the sky over Ashdod earlier on Monday.
The Israeli Navy was searching for remnants of the drone, which was intercepted over an open area near the Ashdod coast.
The drone set off a Code Red alert siren in the city.
