The
Tennessee Titans desperately need to capitalize on any and all opportunities presented to them in this year's NFL Draft. With the quarterback situations in the AFC South best described as "convoluted," general manager Ran Carthon is prepared to take some swings.
Keep an eye on Tennessee at No. 3 overall.
That's the message NFL Network's top draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah conveyed on an episode of his
Move The Sticks podcast last week. That selection currently belongs to the Arizona Cardinals. With quarterback Kyler Murray under contract for the next five years, it would be borderline negligence for Arizona to stick and pick at No. 3.
It also just so happens that the new head of personnel for the Cardinals, Monti Ossenfort, got to Tempe, AZ this offseason by way of the Titans front office.
"Can I give you the team that I have been told to keep an eye on that's exploring this and looking into this?" said Jeremiah. "Again, this is just people around the league who said do not sleep on Numero 11. The Tennessee Titans. The two teams to keep an eye on with the trade-ups were the Raiders and the Titans."
AtoZ Sports is able to confirm the Tennessee portion of Jeremiah's report.
Several passer-needy teams will be jockeying for position to land one of this year's Top 4 (and potentially 5) quarterback prospects. If the Titans like a player enough to go up this year and can leapfrog a division rival with the
Indianapolis Colts set to select at No. 4, the risk is very much worth the reward. The run on passers will start right off the top with the Carolina Panthers and
Houston Texans before Arizona needs to make their decision on what to do with No. 3.
The
San Francisco 49ers traded up to No. 3 in the 2021 draft with the
Miami Dolphins to select quarterback Trey Lance. They sent their 2021 (12th), 2022 and 2023 first-round choices, along with a third-round pick in the 2022 draft to Miami. Carthon was notably a part of that Niners staff.
While the Lance trade famously has yet to work out, it does show the bones of what a deal might look like if the Titans decided to make a similar move this offseason.
