Sunday’s 6-pack
Six of the top prospects for the Seattle Mariners:
1) Julio Rodriguez, OF— 19-year old has a .929 OPS in two pro seasons.
2) Jarred Kelenic, OF— Acquired in the Robinson Cano trade.
3) Evan White, 1B— Hit 18 homers in the Texas League last year.
4) Logan Gilbert, P— Had a 2.88 ERA in nine AA starts LY.
5) George Kirby, P— Walked six guys in 88 IP in his last year in college.
6) Noelvi Marte, SS— 18-year old signed for $1.55M.

Quote of the Day:
“We never once sat down after the season and said, ‘How do we replace Ja Morant?’ That’s an impossible task. We’re less dependent on the ball screen, obviously we had one of the best ball-screen players in college basketball history for the last couple of years.”
Murray State coach Matt McMahon

Sunday’s quiz
Durham Bulls are the AAA farm team of which major league club?

Saturday’s quiz
Former Steeler QB Tommy Maddox was the QB of the team that won the only XFL title, back in 2001.

Friday’s quiz
In the movie Moneyball, Art Howe was the manager of the Oakland A’s; Philip Seymour Hoffman played Howe in the movie.

***********************************************************************

Sunday’s Den; Wrapping up a sports Saturday……

13) Minnesota Twins withdrew from the 3-team Mookie Betts trade, meaning Kenta Maeda is back on the Dodgers again; that shouldn’t be too awkward, with spring training starting in a couple days.

12) Auburn 91, LSU 90 OT— Auburn trailed by 12 at the half, by 8 with 1:26 left, then led by 7 with 1:51 left in OT, before LSU stormed back and took a 90-89 lead with 0:09 left. Auburn scored with 0:00.1 left to send its fans home happy.

Second loss in a row for LSU after its 8-0 start in SEC. Auburn won its last six games, with three of last four wins coming in overtime.

Auburn was 18-44 on the arc, 12-30 inside the arc; they played without Purifoy, who had the flu.

11) Seton Hall 70, Villanova 64— Pirates are best team in Big East; they lead the league by three games, but the question is: Can Villanova or Butler still make noise in the NCAAs?

10) Duke 98, North Carolina 96 OT— No nice way to say this; an epic collapse by the Tar Heels, who led by 13 with 4:04 left to play, by 5 with 0:21 left in OT. UNC was 21-38 on foul line in a 2-point loss; Duke was 26-34. Not often a team leads a game for over 40:00 and loses.

The uniforms these teams wore for this game look like practice jerseys, awful uniforms, but I’m sure they’ll sell a ton of them online, because hey, they were on TV.

9) St Bonaventure 83, Duquesne 80— How is Mark Schmidt still the coach of the Bonnies? St Bonaventure is 16-8 this season, 8-3 in the A-14; he’s a very good coach.

— Find a map, then find Olean, NY on that map.
— Circle Olean, NY on the map
— Look at how many cities are within 90 miles of Olean; how many great high school basketball players live within 90 miles of Olean?
— Some bigger school should hire Schmidt.

8) Temple 97, SMU 90 OT— Owls were down 17 at the half, rallied to win. Not often you make 13-30 on the arc and lose, but SMU also doesn’t have any seniors, which showed here.

7) Upsets:
— Elon (+12.5) 72, Charleston 65
— UCLA (+12) 65, Arizona 52
— Lehigh (+10) 62, Lafayette 59
— South Florida (+8.5) 75, Memphis 73
— Boston College (+8) 77, Virginia Tech 73
— Grand Canyon (+7) 103, Cal Baptist 98
— Chattanooga (+6) 84, Wofford 77

6) Oklahoma 69, West Virginia 59— West Virginia is 5-0 at home in Big X, 1-4 on road, with lone win at last place Oklahoma State.

Mountaineers’ conference schedule is just stupid; their closest Big X rival is Iowa State, located 873 miles away. 879 miles is their SHORTEST Big X road trip. Is football that big a money maker than screwing up your basketball program is worth it?

5) Georgetown 76, DePaul 72— If you had told me in December that DePaul would be 1-10 in the Big East, I would’ve scoffed at you- they looked great in pre-conference play, but now DePaul has lost eight conference games by 8 or fewer points. Same old story; the last 12 years, they’re 33-173 in Big East games. That not good.

4) Arizona State 66, USC 64— Trojans led by 13 in first half, by 5 with 2:22 left, but they turned ball over 24 times, lost to an Arizona squad that shot 31% inside the arc. Trojans got swept on their Arizona trip, by total of seven points.

3) Alabama 105, Georgia 102, OT— Three of seven SEC games Saturday went to OT. Both teams shot 60%+ inside the arc in this game. Georgia led by 12 with 14:17 left.

2) XFL: Washington 31, Seattle 19— Austin Proehl scored first TD in XFL this season; his father Ricky scored the game-winning TD for the Rams in the 2000 NFC title game.

Washington’s first TD scored on a blocked punt.

1) Houston 37, Los Angeles 17— Philip Walker had a big day at QB for Houston, throwing for 272 yards, four TD’s. LA played without QB Josh Johnson, a big deal.

My overall impression of the XFL’s first day:
— Both home teams won; both games went over.
— Good entertainment. I’m more of a basketball guy, but the quality of football will improve as teams play together more.
— Plays: Seattle 64, Washington 56. Similar to an NFL game.

Durham Bulls are the AAA farm team of the Tampa Bay Rays

Saturday’s quiz
Former Steeler QB Tommy Maddox was the QB of the team that won the only XFL title, back in 2001.

Monday’s List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Sunday

13) Over the weekend, a woman on Twitter posted a pic of her on vacation at a zoo with a small monkey standing on her head. Woman didn’t have a hat on or a scarf, just a monkey standing on her head.

Swear to God, I’d have a damn heart attack if a monkey stood on my head. No bueno.

12) Do the people who run college basketball talk to each other? Ever?

Supposedly they want more scoring, but they moved the 3-point arc back, and if you’re watching games this season, referees have mostly stopped calling fouls, except real obvious ones. Big 14 games have a ton of hand-checking and body contact, but not a lot of fouls are called, and not a whole lot of points are scored.

11) I’m not a big NASCAR fan, but I’m always glad to see it come on TV, that means spring is a lot closer than it used to be. Spring training follows NASCAR pretty closely, and spring training is always a good thing.

10) I’m in a restaurant the other night, and the menu says “Gourmet Mac and Cheese”. This is an oxymoron, yes? How can mac and cheese be gourmet? I asked the bartender, and she agreed.

XFL facts, observations:
9) There were 19 touchdowns in the XFL this weekend; teams went for the 2-yard, 1-point conversion 11 times, the 2-point, 5-yard conversion 8 times. No one tried a 3-point conversion from the 10-yard line.

8) Home teams won three of four games; three of four games stayed under, with the Seattle-Washington total depending on when you wagered on the game.

7) Dallas was a 10-point favorite, but QB Landry Jones didn’t play, and Dallas didn’t score a TD in its 15-9 home loss to St Louis. Jones is expected to play next weekend.

6) Teams ran an average of 62 plays per game in Week 1.

I’m pretty sure a couple of officials forgot that the XFL is using the 1-foot inbounds rule for completed passes; the replay official in New Jersey Sunday seemed very nervous, his voice was almost shaking as he talked to the referee on the field.

Elsewhere…….
5) Marquette 76, Butler 57— Marquette made 11-24 on arc; Butler is 3-5 in its last eight games after a 15-1 start.

4) UConn 72, Cincinnati 71— Bearcats led by 10 in first half; but UConn made 11-26 on arc, got their third win in last four games.

3) Houston 76, Wichita State 43— Shockers went 2-24 on arc; they lost for fifth time in las seven games. Houston won seven of its last eight games; they allowed total of only 97 points in two games vs Wichita this season.

2) Washington State 79, Washington 67— Huskies have lost six in row, 10 of last 12 games.

1) Princeton 81, Columbia 72— Tigers and Yale are tied for Ivy League lead, at 5-1.

NEW YORK ISLANDERS AT WASHINGTON CAPITALS
OVER WITH MONDAYS

The start of the week brings us a battle between a pair of Metropolitan rivals as the New York Islanders (3-2 SU, 3-1-1 O/U last five) visit the Washington Capitals (2-3 SU, 4-0-1 O/U last five). The Islanders and Caps have played twice this season and have combined to pile up the goals, scoring 17 in total.

The Caps will likely start goalie Ilya Samsonov as Braden Holtby was tagged for seven goals on Saturday while the Islanders will counter with Thomas Greiss. Both goalies have allowed three or more goals in their previous two starts with the Over going 4-0 in those four games.

We are starting the week with an Over and taking the six as the Over is 19-7-2 in Washington this year.

DETROIT RED WINGS AT BUFFALO SABRES
VALUE IN THE LEAGUE’S WORST

It's not often we recommend the Detroit Red Wings (2-3 SU, 1-4 O/U last five) as they are by far the worst team in the league, but when they are facing the Buffalo Sabres (2-3 SU, 2-3 O/U last five) — a team they beat last week at +190 — there is value to be had. Detroit has been playing competitively of late as it is allowing just two goals against over its last five.

With Detroit playing on the road, it should be a big plus-money play. The Wings have been getting great goaltending by Jonathan Bernier (see below) which has allowed their anemic offense to stay in games. We are taking the Wings on the moneyline and fading the Sabres who have won just once in their last four and are 1-5 SU at home over their last six.

TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING AT PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
BEST PRICE FOR BEST TEAM

No team has been hotter than the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bolts have the most points over the last 20 games and are winners of six straight heading into the week. On Tuesday, they find themselves on the backend of a back-to-back which could give bettors a decent price on the moneyline, something that hasn’t been common during their domination of the league.

Tuesday’s opponents, the Pittsburgh Penguins, have lost the last three matchups with Tampa Bay with the most recent being a 4-2 loss last week. The Pens’ Top-5 powerplay went 0-for-5 with the man advantage against the Lightning’s third-best penalty kill.

We like backing the best team in the league and what we think will be a great price due to back-to-back and playing on the road. Take the Lightning on the moneyline for this Tuesday night matchup.

CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS AT VANCOUVER CANUCKS
OVER AND OUT

The Chicago Blackhawks (2-3 SU, 2-3 O/U last five) and Vancouver Canucks 1-4 SU, 3-1-1 O/U last five) have met twice this year with each team snagging a pair of home victories. But the real takeaway was the offensive production. In those two contests, a total of 19 goals were scored with the most recent result a 7-5 Vancouver victory on January 2.

With Chicago and Vancouver sitting at around 50 percent on the O/U, we should get a total closer to six than 6.5, which is great news for Over backers. Chicago is 5-3 O/U on its last totals of six while Vancouver is 6-3-1 O/U on totals of six in its last 10. We are grabbing the hump day Over 6 on Wednesday.

GOALIE PROFILE: JONATHAN BERNIER, DETROIT RED WINGS

Since returning from an injury on February 1, Jonathan Bernier has started four games and has won two of them at +190 and +270. Bernier holds a sub-2.00 goals against with a .935 save percentage this month which puts him up with the best goalies statistically.

The Red Wings play the Sabres on Tuesday, the Devils on Thursday and the Bruins on Saturday. Detroit has already beaten the Sabres and Bruins this month and will be big dogs in each of those three games. With the tight games that Detroit has been involved with of late, don’t forget to take a look at the +1.5 puckline.

INJURY UPDATE: F WILLIAM KARLSSON, VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS

The Vegas Golden Knights (3-2 SU, 3-2 O/U last five) may have the services of 40-goal man William Karlsson on Tuesday versus the Minnesota Wild as the forward makes his way back from a broken finger that sidelined him since January 14. The Knights have scored on the powerplay at the fourth-worst mark in Karlsson’s absence but are tied for the most goals scored (21) over their last five games.

The Wild are 3-2-2 O/U at home in their last seven and are averaging 3.2 goals against in their last 10 games. Getting Karlsson into the lineup could add to an already potent offense. We are looking at the Over.

HAT TRICK TRENDS

• Favorites cleaned up last week going 31-16 with away favorites really dominating, finishing 11-2 over the last seven days. Much like last week, the puckline wasn’t as successful but still had a positive return hitting at 40 percent.

• It seems first-period Overs have started to wane. There is a lot of value in playing the Under for the first frame as the Under is usually even money at worst. Here are the best first-period Under teams of late: Blue Jackets (1-9 O/U), Kings (3-7 O/U), Flyers (3-7 O/U), Hurricanes (4-6 O/U), Coyotes (4-6 O/U), Canadiens (4-6 O/U), Flames (4-6 O/U).

• Looking to play some Overs? Target these goalies as they are in the bottom of the league in goals against over the last 30 days: WSH - Braden Holtby (4.42 GAA); SJ - Martin Jones (4.05 GAA); MIN - Devan Dubnyk (4.04 GAA); NYI - Semyon Varlamov (3.77 GAA).

13) Been a bad offseason for major league baseball, which will now toy with changes to the postseason, to deflect attention from all its other problems.

Tomorrow I’ll be posting my suggestions on what baseball should do. Change isn’t always positive, by the way.

12) Duke 70, Florida State 65:
— Duke survived 21 turnovers (-9), made 7-17 on the arc.
— Florida State shot 12-20 on line, 3-18 on arc, very unusual for them.
— As much time/money as ESPN spends broadcasting basketball, you’d think someone better than Jay Bilas would be their #1 game analyst. ESPN is very Duke-centric (Mike Ktzyzewski’s son-in-law in an analyst on ESPNU); ESPN has let some talented analysts walk away.

Bilas spends way too much time evaluating the refs, except when Duke is getting calls in key spots, then it becomes “…..an unusual call”

11) 30 years ago, Big Monday on ESPN meant this:
— 7:00 Big East game
— 9:00 Big Ten game
— 11:00 Big West game

Noticing that the last few weeks, Big Sky teams have played some Monday games; why not televise Big Sky games on ESPN2, give those teams more exposure? ESPN dumped the Big West when UNLV went to the Mountain West; they could use a good 11:00 Monday game.

10) Iowa State’s best basketball player, Tyrese Halliburton (wrist) is done for the year, which basically ends the Cyclones’ season. Iowa State is 10-13, 3-7 in the Big X.

9) Rough week for Michigan State’s athletic department:
— Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell became latest football coach to turn down the Spartans.
— Michigan State’s hoop team has lost three in row, dropped out of the Top 25.

8) Chargers/Philip Rivers officially parted ways Monday, after 16 years. Looks like Rivers will wind up in Tampa Bay. Chargers need to sell tickets in new SoFi Stadium; who will they pick to replace Rivers as their quarterback?

7) Boston Red Sox are likely to start three lefty hitting outfielders on Opening Day; if they do that, it’ll be the first time they’ve done it since 1960, Ted Williams’ last season in Beantown.

6) If I’m a Red Sox fan, I’m asking why we’re trading our best player? If Mookie Betts turned down a $300M offer, then that should become public, and the Red Sox are off the hook, but if they cheaped out on a great player, then what are they thinking?

5) Angels kiboshed the Joc Pederson trade; will the Dodgers deal Pederson somewhere else? They have too many outfielders right now.

4) 76-year old Jerry Glanville is defensive coordinator for the XFL’s Tampa Bay Vipers; long time ago, Glanville coached the Houston Oilers (1985-89), Atlanta Falcons (1990-93). He’s the guy who traded Brett Favre to Green Bay after his rookie season, because Favre wasn’t as focused on football as he should’ve been.

3) In the XFL, Los Angeles Wildcats already have parted ways with DC Pepper Johnson; LA gave up four TD passes, 37 points in their Week 1 loss at Houston.

2) Arizona Cardinals’ WR Larry Fitzgerald won at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am this weekend, teaming with pro Kevin Streelman; it was 2nd time Fitzgerald won at Pebble Beach.

1) LSU hired former NFL head coach Scott Linehan as its passing game coordinator; when you pay assistants as much as LSU does, guys with NFL experience become interested.

In the Crease - Week 20
Joe Williams

Lightning Smashes

The Tampa Bay Lightning have rattled off seven consecutive victories to pull within three points of the Boston Bruins in the Atlantic Division for first place. They have surpassed the B's in goal differential, as they now lead the NHL at plus-50. The Lightning have registered 201 goals, one off the league lead behind the Washington Capitals. The Lightning will face the Pittsburgh Penguins in Tuesday's game at PGH Paints Arena in a potential playoff preview. That is, if the Lightning aren't ousted in the first round like last season when they were swept despite winning the President's Trophy in the regular season.

Tampa Bay has won four in a row against winning teams, and they're 5-1 in the past six against Metropolitan Division clubs. In addition, they're playing in the second end of a back-to-back situation, but that hasn't fazed them lately. They're 5-1 in the past six in the second end of a back-to-back. They're also playing in the fourth game in six days, and they're 40-1 in the previous 51 4-in-6 situations. The Penguins are a huge test, going 20-7 in the past 27 games overall, and they're 5-2 in the past seven against Eastern Conference foes. Tampa Bay has struggled in the Steel City in recent seasons, going 1-5 in the past six trips to Pittsburgh, with the home team going 4-0 in the past four. The favorite is also 41-17 in the past 58 meetings in this series. The over is also 16-5-2 in the past 23 meetings in Pittsburgh.

Looking Ahead

Tuesday, Feb. 11

N.Y. Rangers at Winnipeg:
In the offseason the Rangers made one of the biggest splashes in the free-agent marker with defenseman Jacob Trouba coming over to the Blueshirts, previously of the Jets. It's his first trip back to Winnipeg since departing for his big payday. He opened the season with a goal, three points and a plus-1 rating in the regular-season opener against the Jets at Madison Square Garden back on Oct. 3. That was his only three-point game of the season. He hasn't made a giant splash in New York, and the Rangers have been rather mediocre. We'll see if he gives them a jump-start in his old stomping grounds. The Rangers went 2-5 in the past seven against Western Conference foes while the Jets are 1-5 in the past six vs. East. Winnipeg has won four of the past five overall, but they're 4-9 in the past 13 at home. Winnipeg is playing in the third game in four days, and they're just 1-8 in the past nine in a 3-in-4 situation.

Carolina at Dallas:
The Hurricanes continue their road trip back through the Metroplex against the Stars. Carolina has fared pretty well in the past six games, all against Western Conference opponents, going 4-2-0 with 25 goals scored and 22 goals allowed. James Reimer has sorta stepped to the forefront in the goaltender picture, as Petr Mrazek has struggled and Optimus Reim continues to tick off victories. If the NHL ever decides to do divisional realignment, the Hurricanes might request moving from the Metropolitan Division to the Central. They're 16-5 in their past 21 against Central foes while winning 37 of the past 55 against Western Conference teams overall. The Stars have won seven of the past nine against winning teams, while going 4-1 in the past five vs. Metro teams. The Stars have been kryptonite to the Hurricanes, as Carolina is just 2-9 in the past 11 trips to Dallas, and 7-15 in the past 22 meetings overall.

St. Louis at Anaheim:
The defending champs won't be able to repeat as Stanley Cup winners if they cannot solve their road woes. They have won just once in the past eight games away from hoe, and they're 0-4 in the past four against Western Conference foes, too. Overall they're just 1-4 in the past five games overall, perhaps distracted a bit after the All-Star hoopla in their hometown. The Ducks picked up a win last time out, and that's usually not a good thing. They cannot piece together wins lately, going just 5-16 in the past 21 games following a win. They're also 8-22 in the previous 30 working on a day of rest. The Blues have managed to go just 6-21-1 in the past 28 meetings in Anaheim, too.

Wednesday, Feb. 12

Chicago at Vancouver:
The last-place Blackhawks have managed 58 points in the Central Division, but believe it or not they're also just four points out of the last playoff spot in the West. The Canucks enter this game with 67 points, going 31-21-5 while sitting atop the Pacific Division. They're also first in goal differential at plus-12 in the Pacific. The Canucks have managed an 18-6-3 record at home, including 13-3 in the past 16 games in the Pacific Northwest. The Canucks have posted seven victories in the past 10 against losing teams, too. The Blackhawks are playing in the second end of a home-and-home, and the lack of rest has served them well. They're 5-1 in the past six when working on the second end of a back-to-back. Chicago is 0-4 for in their past four trips to Vancouver, and 2-7 in the past nine meetings overall. If you like overs, this might be your game. The over is 5-0-2 in the past seven meetings in B.C., and 9-1-2 in the past 12 meetings.

Thursday, Feb. 13

Dallas at Toronto:
The Stars hit the road after hosting the Hurricanes on Tuesday. Dallas took a loss against Toronto by a 5-3 score at American Airlines Arena back on Jan. 29 in the second game out of the All-Star break, as Frederik Andersen outdueled Ben Bishop. Home hasn't been good news for the Stars lately, but they're pretty sharp on the road. Dallas topped St. Louis 3-2 in overtime last time out as moderate underdogs on Feb. 8, and they're 3-0-1 in the past four outings. The Stars won 2-1 on Nov. 1, 2018 in the most recent meeting at Scotiabank Arena after losing the first meeting at home. That's three straight wins by the road team in this series.

Calgary at Anaheim:
For years the Flames couldn't beat the Ducks in Anaheim no matter what. In fact, the Flames lost 22 straight trips to Anaheim in the regular season from Jan. 19, 2004 through Oct. 10, 2017. They have put those losing ways in the rear-view mirror, as is evidenced by their 2-1 road win on Oct. 20 on The Pond. The Flames have also posted back-to-back 6-2 road win against San Jose and Vancouver behind David Rittich, so a win by the Ducks is no longer a certainty in this series.

Friday, Feb. 14

N.Y. Rangers at Columbus:
The free-agent reunion tour continues, and you can expect Artemi Panarin won't receive a lot of love on Valentine's Day in his second game back at Nationwide Arena. Like Trouba, he left his team in the offseason via free agency, and now has to face the music from his former fans. The Rangers won 3-2 on Dec. 5 in C-Bus behind Alexandar Georgiev against Joonas Korpisalo, who is out with a lower-body injury this time. Elvis Merzlikins has racked up five shutouts in his stead, and Korpisalo might not get his job back. The Jackets won 2-1 at MSG on Jan. 19 in a battle between backups Matiss Kivlenieks and Igor Shesterkin. The road team has won three consecutive meetings in this series.

Wednesday’s 6-pack
Odds to win the Daytona 500 Sunday:
10-1— Kyle Busch, Hamlin, Keselowski, Logano
12-1— Elliott, Harvick
14-1— Blaney, Truex
20-1— Kurt Busch
25-1— Almirola, Bowman, Bowyer, Byron, DiBnedetto, Johnson
30-1— Dillon, Jones, Larson, Newman, Stenhouse

Tweet of the Day:
“No idea who made this new playoff format proposal, but Rob is responsible for releasing it, so I’ll direct this to you, Rob Manfred. Your proposal is absurd for too many reasons to type on twitter and proves you have absolutely no clue about baseball. You’re a joke.”
Trevor Bauer

Wednesday’s quiz
Red Sox have won four World Series since 2004, under which three managers?

Tuesday’s quiz
Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton used to coach the Washington Wizards.

Monday’s quiz
UConn/Syracuse played a 6-OT game in the 2009 Big East tournament.

Wednesday’s Den: My plan for major league baseball……..

My plan for major league baseball……..
13) Total geographic realignement; no more American/National Leagues.
Northeast- Mets, Bronx, Phillies, Montreal, Red Sox, Orioles, Nationals, Toronto

South- Braves, Marlins, Rays, Cardinals. Nashville, Astros, Rangers, Royals,

Midwest- Cubs, White Sox, Brewers, Twins, Tigers, Pirates, Indians, Reds

West- Giants, Dodgers, Angels, Padres, Mariners, Rockies, Arizona, Portland.

12) You may have noticed four 8-team divisions, which is 32 teams, not 30. We think that the scheduling would be 1,000 times easier with 32 teams. Plus, we like 27-man rosters year-round, so that would be 84 new major league jobs, which the players’ union will like.

A’s would move to Portland, which is building a 35,000-seat stadium, Montreal, Nashville get expansion teams.

11) Realignment reduces travel costs, invigorates regional rivalries, which gets more people talking about baseball, which is what the sport needs.

10) My playoffs would look like this:
— Four division winners get first-round byes.
— Wild Card round would be best-of-3 series, all at site of team with better record.
— Semifinal round is best-of-5, World Series is best-of-7.

9) Scheduling:
— Play other seven teams in your division 12 times each (84 games).
— Play teams in other division in your conference six times each (48 games).
— Play teams in one of other divisions three times each (24 games). Alternate those divisions every year.

That is a 156-game schedule; shorter regular season is followed by longer playoffs.

8) Get rid of situational lefties; the 3-batter minimum for relievers is a good rule.

7) Every team should play four Sunday doubleheaders; twinbills are great fun, and we’re trying to grow the game with younger fans. Players would go for this, because every doubleheader means an additional day off.

6) No coaches/managers are allowed on the field during the game, except to see to an injured player. No mound visits, just slows down the game.

5) Get rid of TV blackouts; baseball needs more exposure, not less. People need to see what an excellent game it, they need to learn about it. Blacking out replays of games out is antiquated stuff; young people need to see the game, so they can learn to love it like I do.

4) I’ve been to AAA games with the 30-second clock in between pitches; it isn’t intrusive on the game. Put it in.

3) DH would be the rule for everyone. Watching pitchers hit is useless.

2) If you insist on making the All-Star Game more competitive, make it US vs the World, then you’ll quickly realize that format would be TOO competitive, then go back to East vs West.

1) More teams in playoffs would be fine, but 156 games is fine; that is what baseball is, 156 games in 182 days, a test of stamina and execution and depth. Some people are never going to embrace baseball; MLB needs to make sure they don’t tick off people who already love it.
