Preview: Wings (9-11) at Lynx (15-4)
Date: July 09, 2016 8:00 PM EDT

Red-hot Minnesota star Maya Moore poured in 40 points, but the suddenly inconsistent defending-champion Lynx lost to Eastern Conference bottom-feeder Connecticut in overtime on Thursday.

Minnesota will look to rebound from that disappointing loss Saturday, when the Dallas Wings visit Target Center.

The Wings could be without star forward Glory Johnson, who injured her right foot in the fourth quarter of Dallas' 95-90 overtime loss at Atlanta on Friday.

After opening the season with a record 13 straight wins, the Lynx (15-4) have gone 2-3, including Thursday's surprising loss to the Sun (5-13). Minnesota led by 11 with two minutes to play, but allowed Connecticut to rally back and force overtime.

"We have to be smarter with the ball down the stretch and understand how to close out games consistently," Moore told reporters after the loss to Connecticut.

Moore scored 38 of her 40 points in the second half and overtime. She had 33 points in her previous outing, an 87-82 win over the Chicago Sky.

The Wings (9-11) will miss Johnson, if she can't go. She leads the team in rebounding and is third in scoring. She was on pace for her second straight 20-rebound game, before going down after a collision with Atlanta's Elizabeth Williams. Johnson did not return to the game and appeared to be in pain on the bench.

Dallas is second in the league in scoring, but second to last in points allowed.

The Wings have lost four of six overall.

Minnesota beat Dallas 80-63 on June fourth and has won nine of the last 10 meetings with the Wings franchise, which relocated to Texas from Tulsa, Oklahoma this season.

All five starters for the Lynx scored in double figures in the June win over Dallas, led by Sylvia Fowles with 16 points.

Aerial Powers scored 20 points off the bench for a short-handed Dallas squad in the loss.

Johnson and Skylar Diggins missed the first meeting with the Lynx. Johnson was serving a suspension from the league, and Diggins was trying to get from an injury that limited her playing time early in the season.

Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

-- White Sox are first team since 1979 to turn three triple plays in same season.

-- Does the nine-team CFL have fantasy football leagues?

-- 7pm baseball games in this country are starting at 8am the next day in Japan.

-- One winning ticket for a $524M Mega Millions jackpot was sold, in Indiana.

-- Think Charlie Strong is on the hot seat at Texas? Longhorns are 11-14 in his two years in Austin-- they lost 24-0 at Iowa State LY. Iowa freakin' State.

-- Over last nine years, Kansas State is 20-8 vs spread as a road underdog.

**********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.......

13) I go thru this every year at this time, but it is stupid that the All-Star Game will decide who has home field in the World Series. Mind-numbingly stupid.

This was done as a concession to FOX TV after the tie game in Milwaukee a few years ago, when the All-Star teams ran out of pitchers. Home field in the World Series could be determined by who wins interleague play, or it could just alternate, either option would be significiantly better than this.

12) Because the All-Star Game "matters", All-Star managers get goofy when they select players, making situational relievers All-Stars, while Max Scherzer stays home. The All-Star Game should be for guys having the best year this year, not guys who might help the team win. It is supposed to be a damn exhibition showcase.

11) Red Sox traded for Arizona reliever Brad Ziegler before they announced Craig Kimbrel needed his knee operated on-- price tag might've gone up if Arizona knew the Sox were hurting for a relief pitcher. .

10) Speaking of which, there is nothing more depressing to a fan than when his team starts selling off players in July-- A's will be doing it soon, since Rich Hill and Danny Valencia are both in their mid-30's, so whats the point of keeping them, when maybe you can get a prospect or two for them?

Remember, back on August 12, 1987, the Tigers needed another starting pitcher for the stretch run, so they acquired Doyle Alexander from Atlnata for a minor leaguer?

The minor leaguer's name was John Smoltz.

9) Arizona-San Francisco game Friday night was second one this season where both managers got tossed- first was a Cincy-Pittsburgh game on May 11.

8) Want to know why the NBA's salary cap is going to be as high as $102M in two years? They put over 16,000 fans in the Thomas & Mack Center last night, for the 76ers-Laker game. 16,000 fans for a damn summer league game at $28 a pop? Wow.

7) I know it is only summer league, but Ben Simmons, in his first three summer games for the 76ers, is shooting 7-25 from the floor, scoring just 8 ppg. He's grabbed 25 rebounds, had 19 assists, and the Sixers are +12 with him on the court, but he has looked incredibly uncomfortable shooting the ball, even on shots in the lane.

Defenders are going to play so far off Simmons that the 76ers will wind up playing 4-on-5 on offense when he has the ball, unless he becomes a scoring threat.

6) Oklahoma could be starting a freshman and four sophmores on its offensive line this fall, but three of the sophs started a total of 32 games LY.

5) Mets' pitcher Matt Harvey is having surgery on his shoulder, which includes having a rib taken out of his body, allowing more space for the muscles around Harvey’s neck and shoulder. Hopefully the surgery .can revive Harvey's career.

4) Buddy Hield started his pro career with a 5-20 shooting night (1-8 from the arc) in an 85-65 loss to the Lakers.

3) Angels' 1B CJ Cron was hitting .405 (12-33) with five HRs in July, but then he got hit by a pitch and broke his hand Friday night in Baltimore. He's out for a month.

2) My fantasy baseball team has more players in the Futures Game (3) than in the actual All-Star Game (2), which might be a good thing two of three years from now, but for this season......not so much.

1) Tom Candiotti is working on Arizona TV games this weekend; he usually works on the radio, but his presence reminded me that a few years ago, I'm watching a game with Arizona and the Padres, and Chad Gaudin was pitching- he was on my fantasy team.

Candiotti was a good big league pitcher, he was explaining why Gaudin would never be a good major leaguer-- his argument was so logical and convincing that I went right online and cut Gaudin, while he was still pitching that night. Not my finest moment, but it was the right move. Sometimes you just have to listen and learn.

Preview: Dream (10-9) at Sun (5-13)
Date: July 10, 2016 1:00 PM EDT

The Atlanta Dream will try to keep pace with the surging New York Liberty when the Dream visit the Connecticut Sun on Sunday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Atlanta (10-9) has won its last two games after losing six in a row. The Dream are second in the WNBA's Eastern Conference, 3 1/2 games behind the Liberty.

Connecticut (5-13) has won its last two games after losing six of seven. The Sun are last in the Eastern Conference, eight games behind New York.

Atlanta is coming off a 95-90 overtime victory over the Dallas Wings. Angel McCoughtry turned in one of the finest performances of her career. She scored seven points in overtime and posted the sixth triple-double in WNBA history, finishing with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Tiffany Hayes also scored 27 points in the win over Dallas. Sancho Lyttle had 10 points and 14 rebounds. Elizabeth Williams had 10 points and six blocked shots.

Connecticut is coming off its most impressive win of the season, a 93-89 overtime victory over the Minnesota Lynx. The Sun ended regulation with a 13-2 run and prevailed in overtime, overcoming a 40-point game by Minnesota star Maya Moore.

Alex Bentley scored 24 points for Connecticut. Chiney Ogwumike had 21 points and seven rebounds.

McCoughtry is fourth in the WNBA in scoring at 19.5 points per game. Hayes is 12th, averaging 16 points per contest. Bentley leads Connecticut and ranks 16th in the league in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game.

Connecticut announced on Friday that rookie Rachel Banham has undergone season-ending micro-fracture surgery on her right knee. Recovery is expected to take four to six months.

"While we are obviously disappointed to lose Rachel for the remainder of the season, we remain tremendously excited about her bright future with the Sun," head coach Curt Miller said. "Rachel showed the potential to be an impact player in this league despite playing through significant pain for the majority of the season."

Preview: Stars (5-14) at Liberty (14-6)
Date: July 10, 2016 3:00 PM EDT

The surging New York Liberty will return to their home court to face the struggling San Antonio Stars on Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

After going 4-4 to start the season, New York (14-6) has won two in a row, four of its last five and 10 of 11. The Liberty have climbed to the top of the WNBA's Eastern Conference standings and lead second-place Atlanta by 3 1/2 games.

San Antonio (5-14) has lost two of its last three games and seven of its last 10. The Stars are last in the Western Conference, 12 1/2 games behind first-place Los Angeles.

The Liberty are coming off an 88-85 road win over the Chicago Sky. The victory made coach Bill Laimbeer the seventh coach in WNBA history with 200 wins. Tina Charles put up 29 points and nine rebounds, Sugar Rodgers added 21 points and Tanisha Wright made a late go-ahead jumper for New York.

The Liberty shot just 39.7 percent from the field while allowing Chicago to shoot 44.6 percent, but the Liberty amassed a huge 44-30 rebounding advantage, went to the free-throw line 23 times and converted on 20 free-throw attempts.

San Antonio is coming off a 78-68 loss to the Seattle Storm. Moriah Jefferson scored 16 points. Haley Peters had 15. Monique Currie and Kayla Alexander added 10 points apiece.

The Stars were without leading scorer Kayla McBride. San Antonio announced Wednesday that McBride will miss the rest of the season with a right foot fracture, a devastating blow to a team that was already having trouble competing. McBride was eighth in the WNBA in scoring at 17.1 points per game.

Charles leads the WNBA in scoring and ranks second in rebounds, averaging 22.8 points and 9.6 rebounds. Teammate Kiah Stokes is fifth in rebounding at 8.4 rebounds per game.

Preview: Mercury (8-12) at Sky (7-11)
Date: July 10, 2016 6:00 PM EDT

The streaky Phoenix Mercury is slumping again as it prepares to visit the Chicago Sky on Sunday at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.

Phoenix (8-12) has lost two in a row and three of its last four. This latest stretch followed a three-game winning streak, which was preceded by a three-game losing streak.

The Mercury has fallen into fourth place in the WNBA's Western Conference, one game behind the third-place Dallas Wings and 10 games behind the first-place Los Angeles Sparks.

Chicago (7-11) has lost two in a row and four of its last five. The Sky has fallen to fifth in the Eastern Conference behind the New York Liberty, the Atlanta Dream, the Washington Mystics and the Indiana Fever.

Teams in the East are much more tightly grouped than they are out West, with only six games separating New York from Chicago.

Phoenix is coming off a 78-60 loss to the Indiana Fever. Diana Taurasi and Kelsey Bone had 13 points apiece in the loss. The Mercury shot 45.1 percent from the field but committed 26 turnovers.

The game marked the return of Marta Xargay, who was Phoenix's starting point guard for much of the 2015 season. The team announced that it had re-signed Xargay on Friday.

Xargay, who will represent Spain in the 2016 Summer Olympics, logged 23 minutes against Indiana, posting six points on 3-of-3 shooting with two assists and two turnovers.

Chicago is coming off an 88-85 loss to New York. Allie Quigley came off the bench to score a career-high 29 points. She made 6-of-9 shots from 3-point range.

Fellow backup Jamierra Faulkner added 18 points. Chicago was outrebounded 44-30 and the team's starters combined for only 33 points. Elena Delle Donne, who is second in the WNBA in scoring at 21 points per game, was held to 14 points.

Date: July 10, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

The Los Angeles Sparks will seek their seventh consecutive victory when they play host to the Washington Mystics on Sunday at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Sparks (17-1), who lead the Western Conference with the WNBA's best record, have won six in a row since suffering a 72-69 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on June 21. The Mystics (9-10) have lost two in a row and three of their last five.

Los Angeles is coming off a 94-88 victory over the Indiana Fever. The Sparks led 80-60 with just over six minutes remaining, but the Fever stormed back to cut the deficit to one in the final seconds. Candace Parker blocked a shot and converted a three-point play in the waning moments to help the Sparks escape with the victory.

Washington, which is in the midst of a five-game road trip, is coming off a 77-70 loss to the San Antonio Stars. Tayler Hill had a team-high 14 points for the Mystics. Emma Meesseman, Natasha Cloud and Kia Vaughn scored 10 points apiece. The Stars were without leading scorer Kayla McBride, who will miss the rest of the season with a foot fracture.

Los Angeles and Washington have already met once this season. It wasn't pretty. The Sparks handed the Mystics a 97-67 loss at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

Kristi Toliver had 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting in that contest for the Sparks, who shot 56.1 percent from the field. Meesseman had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Mystics, who shot 44.4 percent but committed 21 turnovers.

Los Angeles is led by Nneka Ogwumike, who is sixth in the WNBA in scoring and fourth in rebounding, averaging 18.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Parker is averaging 16.4 points per game. Toliver averages 14.4 points.

Washington's Hill is 13th in the WNBA in scoring at 15.6 points per game. Meesseman is averaging 14.6 points and 5.6 rebounds. She leads the league in 3-point shooting at 53.1 percent. Cloud is second at 47.1 percent.

Preview: Fever (8-11) at Storm (7-12)
Date: July 10, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

Breanna Stewart will try to build on her stellar rookie season when the Seattle Storm plays host to the Indiana Fever on Sunday at KeyArena in Seattle, Wash.

Seattle (7-12) is fifth in the WNBA's Western Conference, only 1 1/2 games behind the third-place Dallas Wings. The Storm has lost six of its last nine games but is coming off a 78-68 victory over the San Antonio Stars.

Indiana (8-11) is fourth in the Eastern Conference, one game behind the third-place Washington Mystics and 5 1/2 games behind the first-place New York Liberty.

The Fever, which is in the midst of a three-game trip, has lost four of seven but is coming of a 78-60 victory over the Phoenix Mercury.

Stewart, the No. 1 pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft, was named Rookie of the Month on Thursday for the second month in a row.

In June, Stewart led all rookies in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, averaging 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and two blocked shots in 11 games.

Stewart turned in a monster performance in a 78-74 loss to New York on Wednesday, finishing with 24 points and 16 rebounds. She had 21 points and seven rebounds to help Seattle snap a three-game losing streak in Friday's victory over San Antonio.

Stewart has posted seven double-doubles this season. She had a career-high 38 points in a victory over the Atlanta Dream on June 28. She is seventh in the WNBA in scoring and first in rebounding, averaging 18.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

Erlana Larkins recorded her fifth double-double in Indiana's victory over Phoenix on Friday. She finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Tamika Catchings was held to nine points on 3-of-11 shooting.

Catchings leads the team in scoring at 13.5 points per game. Tiffany Mitchell averages 11.7 points. Brianna January averages 10.3 points. Larkins is averaging 8.8 points and 8.2 rebounds.

Seattle and Indiana have met twice this season. The Fever beat the Storm 85-75 on June 1. The Storm beat the Fever 90-88 on June 12.

LOS ANGELES (AP) Candace Parker hit four 3-pointers and finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists to help the Los Angeles Sparks beat the Washington Mystics 93-82 on Sunday night.

Nneka Ogwumike had 22 points and Jantel Lavender added 20 on 9-of-11 shooting for the Sparks (18-1). Los Angeles, ranked No. 1 in the AP WNBA power poll, has won seven straight and needs two wins to tie the 1998 Houston Comets for the best start in WNBA history.

Lavender scored eight points during a 20-8 spurt that gave the Sparks a 76-64 lead with seven minutes and Parker scored nine in a row to make it 88-71 with 3:41 left.

Emma Meesseman had 24 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals for the fourth-ranked Mystics (9-11). Kahleah Copper added a career-high 13 points.

LIBERTY 75, STARS 65

NEW YORK (AP) - Amanda Zahui B. scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and New York never trailed in its win over San Antonio.

Sugar Rodgers added 11 points, while Shavonte Zellous and Tina Charles scored 10 apiece for the Liberty (15-6), who have won three in a row and 11 of their last 12. Carolyn Swords tied her career high with 11 rebounds.

Zahui B. scored eight points during a 16-7 spurt that gave New York its biggest lead, 71-58, with 3:25 remaining.

Monique Currie led the Stars (5-15) with 17 points. Sydney Colson scored a career-high 12 and Moriah Jefferson added 11 points and three steals.

San Antonio has lost eight of its last 11 overall and fell to 1-9 on the road.

DREAM 67, SUN 63

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) - Angel McCoughtry tied her career high with four 3-pointers and finished with 26 points, and Sancho Lyttle scored 17 and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Atlanta.

Elizabeth Williams, acquired from the Sun in February, added 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots for the Dream (11-9).

McCoughtry hit a 3 to give Atlanta a 64-61 lead with 2:03 left, then had two blocked shots down the stretch. After Alex Bentley's layup pulled Connecticut within one, Lyttle's offensive rebound and putback with 20 seconds remaining sealed it.

Atlanta led by as many as 15 points, but scored just 10 points in the third quarter. Chiney Ogwumike's layup with 5:35 to play gave the Sun their first lead, 59-58.

Alyssa Thomas led the Sun with 19 points. Ogwumike added 11 points, three steals and three blocks.

SKY 100, MERCURY 95

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) - Elena Delle Donne scored 19 points, including a late 3-pointer, and Imani Boyette had her second double-double of the season to help Chicago beat Phoenix.

Boyette had 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Allie Quigley added 21 points, Courtney Vandersloot had 12 points, seven assists and three steals, and Jamierra Faulkner scored 11 with seven assists for the Sky (8-11).

Diana Taurasi scored six-straight points - including a four-point play - to cap a 12-0 run that gave the Mercury a 93-90 lead with 1:32 to play. Delle Donne hit a jumper and Boyette made a layup to put the Sky up by one. After Candice Dupree put Phoenix back in front, Delle Donne's 3-pointer with 26 seconds remaining gave Chicago the lead for good.

Taurasi led Phoenix (8-13) with 26 points. DeWanna Bonner added 20 points and four steals.

FEVER 93, STORM 82

SEATTLE (AP) - Shenise Johnson tied a career high with five 3-pointers and scored a season-high 18 points to lead six Indiana players in double figures.

Tamika Catchings added 15 points, Lynetta Kizer and Devereaux Peters scored 12 apiece and Tiffany Mitchell and Erlana Larkins had 11 points each for Indiana (9-11).

Breanna Stewart's layup late in the second quarter put the Storm up 10 points, but a four-point play by Johnson as the half expired sparked a 15-3 run that made it 55-53 with 5:16 left in the third and the Fever never again trailed.

Stewart converted a three-point play and then made a layup to pull Seattle (7-13) within eight with 3:42 to play, but Indiana's Briann January hit a 3 to spark an 8-0 run that made it 91-75 with two minutes remaining.

Stewart led the Storm with 32 points and 11 rebounds.

WNBA Betting Recap - 7/4-7/10
July 11, 2016

League Betting Notes (Monday, July 4 through Sunday, July 10)

-- Favorites went 13-4 straight up (SU)
-- Underdogs went 9-8 against the spread (ATS)
-- Home teams posted a 12-5 SU record
-- Road teams posted a 10-7 ATS record
-- The 'under' went 9-8

Team Betting Notes

-- Indiana (9-11) posted a road win against Seattle (7-13) Sunday, and the Fever have come alive with road wins in four of the past five away from home. In addition, they have covered five in a row on the road while the 'over' is 5-1 in their past six games overall. The Fever have suddenly emerged as a favorite play of bettors at the window.

-- Dallas (9-12) had a 13-1 'over' streak going from May 18 through June 28, but now the 'under' has hit in four of their past five games. Talk about streaky. After a 4-0 ATS run from June 14-21, the Wings are just 3-5 ATS over the past eight outings.

-- Los Angeles (18-1) thumped Washington (9-12) in Sunday's game for the win and a rare cover. After starting the season 8-2 ATS in their first 10 games the Sparks are just 2-7 ATS over their past nine outings.

-- The 'over' connected for the Mystics Sunday, something which had been a frequent occurence earlier in the season. The over opened 12-0 for Washington, but Sunday's total was just their third over in the past eight outings.

-- The difficult season continues for Phoenix (8-13), as the Mercury dropped the third straight game on the road in Chicago (8-11). The Merc have covered just two of their past six games overall. For the Sky, they have been rather erratic this season, too. They're just 1-4 ATS over the past five games, and 2-8 ATS over the past 10 outings.

-- San Antonio (5-15) dropped another one on the road in New York (5-15), but they were able to cover again. Despite their difficulty picking up wins, they are a respectable 8-4 ATS over the past 12 games. The Stars are also an impressive 7-3 ATS in their past 10 road games this season.

-- After a magical start to the season it has been tough sledding for Minnesota (16-4) lately. They have won just three of the past seven straight up, and the Lynx has posted a 2-5 ATS record during the underwhelming stretch.

-- Connecticut (5-14) dropped another against Atlanta (11-9), and they narrowly missed against the number Sunday to snap a four-game cover streak. As far as the Dream is concerned, they have won and covered three in a row, and they're 5-1 ATS in their past six games overall.

Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

-- Jordan Spieth dropped out of Olympics; world's top four golfers are now out.

-- Wonder what %age of NBA players watch summmer league games on TV?

-- New Brooklyn coach Kenny Atkinson is coaching the Nets' summer games to get used to running an NBA game-- he's never been an NBA head coach before.

-- Still amazing to me that Butler played for national title in college hoop two years in a row, when they were in the Horizon League. Underrated feat.

-- SEC commish said Monday that last August was first time since 1984 that no SEC football teams were on probation.

-- Atlanta Braves were 9-29 when they changed managers; they're 13-12 in their last 25 games and playing a lot better. They hit 13 HRs in their first 38 games, have hit 42 HRs in their last 51.

**********

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but........

13) Congrats to Tim Duncan, retiring with five championships in his 19 years, but more than being a great player, Duncan is a terrific guy who was universally lauded as a great teammate. It is good to know that being a great teammate is being honored.

12) In his career, counting playoff games, Duncan's total plus/minus was exactly +10,000; next best during that time is Dirk Nowitzki, at +6,725.

That means while Duncan was on the court, the Spurs outscored their opponents by 10,000 points, a staggering figure.

Enjoy your retirement, sir.

11) They used the Padres' old brown/gold color scheme for All-Star uniforms, but San Diego's uniforms now are blue and white. Like the brown/gold that Dave Winfield and Nate Colbert wore much, much better- they should switch back.

10) Daniel Murphy is hitting 22-52 (.423) against his old team the Mets this season, with seven HRs, 21 RBI.

9) UFC sold for $4B over the weekend, which is a lot of money. I've never watched it, but what do you do with $4B? The guys who used to own UFC, their kids went to Bishop Gorman HS in Las Vegas- the weight room in that school is better than most D-I football teams' weight room- the UFC guys paid for it.

8) I just don't like watching people fight; I'll turn a hockey game off if a fight starts, but apparently, if UFC sold for $4B, lot of people like watching fights.

7) They just said on TV that Wil Myers hit a baseball off a tee, over the CF fence in San Diego- his coaches had bet him he couldn't do it.

6) Tony Padilla threw to Adam Duvall in HR Derby last night; he is also a college hoop ref who worked the Oklahoma-Villanova national semifinal game last April- his regular job is as a bail bondsman.

5) College basketball knowledge: Since 1987, the defending champ is 10-14 vs spread in its first NCAA tournament game the next season.

4) Since 2001, when the defending champ makes the Sweet 16, they're 1-7 SU, 0-8 against the spread in their Sweet 16 game. Only winner was Florida in 2008.

3) I'm tired of TV guys pumping up how much potential Joel Embiid has; he played one year (2013-14) at Kansas, scoring 11.2 ppg in 23.1 mpg. He then left for the NBA Draft, the 76ers took him and he's played in as many NBA games as I have-- zero.

Good teams draft productive players- they don't speculate on potential. Maybe some day the light bulb will come on over Embiid's head and he'll be a good player, but if he hasn't played in one game in two years, how likely is that to happen?

2) How hard is it to make an NBA roster? As I type this, Jimmer Fredette is on TV, playing for Denver's summer league team, trying to get back in the league. He is an elite shooter, which you would think makes him marketable, but Jimmer couldn't guard the chair I'm sitting on, so he has become a journeyman.

But he has an elite NBA skill and still struggles to make a roster. Lot of these kids who leave college early for the NBA- what elite skill do they have, other than potential?

1) Imagine my delight when I saw the Rams would be featured in not one, but two reality shows this summer/fall. No bueno.

Cops walk off WNBA game over Black Lives Matter jerseys
July 12, 2016

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) A police union official says four off-duty Minneapolis officers working a WNBA game walked off the job at the city's Target Center arena Saturday after Minnesota Lynx players wore pregame warm-up jerseys supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.

The shirts listed the names of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, both fatally shot by police officers last week. Castile was killed by a police officer in suburban St. Paul during a traffic stop. The shirt also showed the Dallas police shield above the phrase ''Black Lives Matter.''

Minneapolis Police Federation President Bob Kroll tells the Minneapolis Star-Tribune (http://strib.mn/29zD4qo ) he commends the officers. He says they took their names off a list of officers to work future games.

The newspaper says Minneapolis police, the Lynx and the Target Center haven't commented.

Preview: Lynx (16-4) at Stars (5-15)
Date: July 12, 2016 12:30 PM EDT

The Minnesota Lynx are on the prowl for a completion of a Texas two-step when they head to San Antonio on Tuesday for a road matchup with the struggling and shorthanded Stars.

On paper, the game looks like a severe mismatch. After all the Lynx (16-4) are the defending WNBA champions and one of the league's best teams this season while San Antonio (5-15) is languishing in last place in the Western Conference.

The Lynx have stumbled over their past 10 games, going 6-4 in that stretch after starting the season with 10 consecutive victories. Included in the recent swoon was Thursday's 93-89 overtime loss to Connecticut, which (like San Antonio) has just five wins in 2016.

Minnesota showed a return to dominance Sunday with 37-point victory against Dallas in which it outscored the Wings 40-4 in a stretch from mid-first quarter to mid-second.

"The mission (against Dallas) was not just to be good, or good enough, but to be great," Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said. "We took that message and applied it in just about every facet of the game."

Lindsay Whalen scored a season-high 22 points in the win, which saw five Minnesota players in double-figure scoring and the Lynx outrebounding Dallas 51-25.

On Thursday in the loss to the Sun, Whalen became the first player in WNBA history to reach 5,000 points, 2,000 assists and 1,500 rebounds.

"I guess it means that I've been playing a long time," Whalen said. "It's pretty cool."

San Antonio has lost its past two outings, including a 10-point road defeat at the hands of the New York Liberty on Sunday. Monique Currie led the Stars in New York with 17 points, while Sydney Colson scored a career-high 12. San Antonio has lost eight of its past 11 games.

The Stars will be playing their fourth straight game without the services of leading scorer Kayla McBride, who broke her right foot last week and is out for the season.

The Lynx handed San Antonio a 91-68 defeat on July 2 in Minneapolis in the two team's first matchup.
