Team USA’s Kristin Armstrong makes history with third-straight gold in time trials.

Team USA's Kristin Armstrong won an unprecedented third-straight gold medal in the women's individual time trials. The 42-year old, who turns 43 tomorrow, beat Russia's Olga Zabelinskaya by over five seconds on the slick track. Road race gold medalist Anna van der Breggen finished third taking the bronze medal.
Armstrong laid on the wet road with what appeared to be a nosebleed after crossing the finish line with a time of 44:26.42. She was joined by her son Lucas shortly after.

After her first gold in Beijing, Armstrong actually retired from the sport to become a mother, but returned for the London Games to successfully defend her title. Armstrong is thefirst ever American woman to win the same individual event at three-straight Olympic Games and she’s the oldest female cycling medalist of all time.
Zabelinskaya, who won bronze in both the road race and the time trial in 2012, finished behind Armstrong. She, like many other Russian athletes, failed a test for performance enhancing drugs and served an 18 month suspension in 2014.

Belgium’s van der Breggen came just short of making history herself by being the first cyclist to win the road race and the time trials in the same Olympic Games.
Rain and heavy winds made an already difficult track extremely challenging. Right from the start, the cyclists had to tread cautiously down the slick start ramp. Most cyclists experienced slipping; Ellen van Dijk of the Netherlands slid off the road into the wooded area early in her run.

What to Watch: Rio Olympic Games Day 5.

As competition continues in Rio, catch both men's and women's U.S. basketball teams on Day 5, and on the beach, Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross play a preliminary match against Switzerland’s Isabelle Forrer and Anouk Vergé-Dépré.
USA Rugby's Men's Eagles face off against the No. 1 team in Rio and two-time defending World Rugby Sevens Series champions, Fiji.

The main event of Day 5 pits Japan's Kohei Uchimura against the world in gymnastics. Uchimura comes to Rio with a chance to become the first male gymnast to repeat individual all-around gold at an Olympics in over 40 years, something his countryman achieved at the 1968 and 1972 Games.
In swimming, expect to see Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky, Ryan Lochte, Missy Franklin and Nathan Adrian in the pool for Team USA.

Men’s Basketball: Australia vs. United States

The United States takes on their toughest opponent of the tournament thus far in Australia. The Aussies sport an NBA-studded lineup featuring players from the last three NBA champions: Matthew Dellavedova (2016), Andrew Bogut (2015) and Patty Mills (2014). DeMarcus Cousins, DeAndre Jordan and Draymond Green will be put to the test as the Boomers possess one of the toughest frontcourts in the tournament in Bogut and the Detroit Pistons’ Aron Baynes.

Men’s Gymnastics: Individual all-around final

Japan’s Kohei Uchimura tries to become the first male gymnast to win back-to-back Olympic all-around titles since fellow countryman Sawao Kato did it at the 1968 Mexico City and 1972 Munich Olympics. Team USA's Sam Mikulak has said publicly he wants to be the one to dethrone Uchimura, but after Japanese gymnast’s dominant performance in the team final, Mikulak may need some luck, and a slip up by a few of his competitors to have a real shot at achieving his goal.<strike></strike>

Day 5 Evening Session

Women’s 100m freestyle semifinals
Men’s 100m freestyle final
Men’s 200m individual medley semifinals
Women’s 4x200m freestyle final

U.S. sprinter Nathan Adrian won gold in London in the 100m freestyle by just 0.01 seconds, relegating Australia’s James Magnussen to silver. Magnussen didn’t qualify for the Rio 100m free, but that won’t make Adrian’s defense any easier with Aussie Cam McEvoy in the field. Also, the U.S. women led by Katie Ledecky and Missy Franklin look to keep the streak alive in the 4x200m freestyle relay, where the U.S. has topped the podium at every Olympics since Barcelona ’92.
