OK here's my Derby bet. Going for a big return. Unfortunately it won't be real big because I'm using the favorite (Fierceness) on top.

So for the uninitiated I am betting that I can pick the first, second, and third horses in finishing order. If I do I hit what's called a trifecta. For my ticket to cash I need the #17 (Fierceness) to win and any of the other seven horses I listed to come in second or third.

On paper the #17 is clearly the best horse. But he's never run as far as he has to run today (1mile and a quarter). The added distance of today's race is the most important x factor for these young (all 3 year old) horses. We'll soon know if he can get that far on top.

A friend of mine just called. He had a $1.00 tri (about 1100.00. And a $10.00 exacta. 5 x 2 hund something! Made over two thou on the race. Love to hear that.

Gonna pass on the 13th, beach. The two favorites look tough but these are young horses. Form can change in a flash. Can't really have confidence in anyone else. Witness Fierceness in the Derby.

Maybe the 14th. I'll see.

Yea. Ran great. His only two races this year were on the turf. I guess they got him back to the surface he wanted. Wasted money.

I'm gonna call it a day. I hope to have a day tomorrow where I relax into handicapping without all the distractions I had today. Did lousy today. I have no confidence backing anything in this race. There are a lot of young contenders.
