no uno. it would be initially redistributing all the wealth from the top class to the middle and lower classes. the top class would then be part of the middle class, the upper middle class. lower class apart of the middle class. one class nation. you get serious and invest in this green society, will give you millions of jobs. you get those lower class people making middle class salaries in those green manufacturing, technical jobs. have the top continue with new investments and entrepreneurship and you have a thriving society.

quantum leap thinks the country is run, or should be run from the top down. i say it should start in the middle. thats the main difference.

quantum leap disregards a class of people that would pump billions more into the country. I utilize all three.

Taxing people who make more reduces their ability to employ people.

Giving it to the lower classes takes away the incentive for them to improve their condition.

In both cases the economy suffers.

However, those that choose to sit around, watch court shows, and go out partying at night, w/o putting in the effort to find work, should get nada.

Here's a clue (he offered with a friendly smile northward)....Those who choose to "sit around and watch court shows w/o making an effort to work" aren't doing much "going out and partying".

Those on the government dole for food and housing assistance not only live in substandard fashion, they don't have much going on to be able to afford a nightlife.

But to stay closer to thread Topic, I will concur with the consensus that the feds sending out stimulus checks is of very dubious value to the community at large

barman it is just easier to ignore those people and call them lazy... get with the program.

heh

All of us experience a variety of misperceptions about the world at large.

But likely one of the most common among the folks I've encountered during the past 20+ years is they confuse unemployed, ne'er do well black folk with the other population of blacks that do indeed live an active party and night life.

The one can't afford that life and the other is enjoying that life for the exact same reasons plenty of young whites and browns live that life. They're young, working one or two jobs and spending most of their money on flash and bling.

B'man--Here in NYC, there are plenty of people that don't work on a regular basis (maybe not watch court shows), but collect state assistance and use that money with a lack of discretion. I will reiterate that I don't advocate cutting all assistance, including for those that work.

There is many people who would rather not work collect SSI and buy natural ice and live off that 600+ a month then go out and find a job....that is a fact jack.

In 95% of America, that standard of living is totally unacceptable.

If the other 5% want to try and roll through life on $600 a month, sitting on a couch in a small wood frame house shared with a half dozen or more people and walk instead of ride everywhere they go, there's not much you or I can do to inspire them.

I can tell you this though. If they don't get fed AND they don't have a job, that's when the real trouble starts for those of us with means.

Think of food stamps and housing subsidies as akin to a heroin maintenance program. The relatively nominal cost of keeping this group's bellies full is far preferable to trying and "starve" them into becoming ambitious.

Fortunately, such motivation is not neccesary for 95%+ of our population.

For the remaining portion (10-15 million adult Americans), I have no problem with a very modest portion of my income taxes going to keep them sated and out of my neighborhood.

If one or more them elects to cross the line and get a "pay raise" through nefarious means, then likely sooner than later they'll get popped and then they can have guaranteed free food, housing and medical care by checking in to the growing prison industrial complex.

Easily the biggest pitfall of my sticking my sincere input into a thread like this is that my thoughts can easily be perceived by the casual reader as in harmony with GTC, when in reality I'm probably on board with maybe 10% of the delusional guesses he makes about the world at large.

*I have no doubt of those people's existence. We have plenty here in Florida as well. What I'm taking issue with is that they are getting significant bang for their buck because frankly it ain't all that much. I'm guessing that in NYC, $600 (or $800, or even $1000) a month doesn't leave a lot of room.

And even if it does, for every one person satisfied with that level of living, there's 20 who are not.

It's just that the 5% tend to stay close together so when viewed from a distance (like Long Island, or North Clearwater), they look like a bunch....heh

B'man--I'm not saying blacks. I am being all inclusive.

Absolutely realize that with you personally, P.

My chippy comment about that earlier in the thread was in response to the complaints within the context they've been made during the past couple months as various folk have stated in one way or another, "Well now we have a black President, so all the lazy unproductive blacks are going to think that they've just received a government pass to Easy St"

Or if the writer does not specifically cite "lazy blacks" he posts a Youtube video of stupid black people acting stupid and tells us this is the people who will soon be running our cities.

Yeah why not do several...hell...maybe if we do 10 or so a year...a lot of people could just live off the government.

LOL :missingte

It beats giving the money straight to the bankers imo. At least this way we get to borrow it from them and have our grandkids pay them back, instead of what they are doing with the bail-out money which is sit on it.

The number of "freeloaders" looking for handouts will likely be no more, or no less than it's ever been in my adult lifetime.

Contrary to snopesian mythology, the vast majority of men and women in America are more than willing to work in exchange for a fair wage.

If the coming eight years honestly focuses on rebuilding America's infrastructure and thus creating millions of legitimate and fair wage jobs in America (rather than in Iraq) we've got a good shot at moving a lot of folks currently on the welfare line into true honest paying jobs.

Part Two of the above is that there's not really many people interested in "living off the government" since such a lifestyle is assured to be extremely substandard.

The reason why a significantly noticeable number of Americans are seeking government assistance at this juncture in our history is that over the past decade, manufacturing jobs and other fair wage employment opportunities have shrunk. People with 40-50 hour work weeks bringing home less than $400 per week should not be slotted as "lazy" when they try and tap a couple hundred bucks a month in government assistance for food and/or housing subsidies.

Barman the problemj is you CANNOT spend your way out of this problem....just go back in History and see if ti worked for Japan??? NO

FDR (who is thought of as a GREAT President) was not......ALL his spending did NOTHING....IT took a WW to get us out and we had to ALSO win the war.......Politicians have ALWAYS thrown money at the problem and still have not realized that Albert was correct....you cannot do the same thing over and over and expect a different result

For optimal results, the new administration cannot attempt to delude Americans that they (the feds) can add to the federal budget by hundreds of billions per year.

Rather, the emphasis should be on rechanneling the $150B we're annually pumping into the military occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan back into our domestic economy.

Included in that domestic rechanneling should be increased border security to better stem the flow of illegal immigrants.

We need to take 100,000 military troops out of the Mideast ASAP and relocate them to the US so we can get control of our borders.

If President Obama fails to do both of the above, then the country will likely see dire straits sooner than later.

The "stimulation" our economy needs is for the priorities in Washington to move away from "building Iraq" (after we ourselves blew it to pieces) and towards "building America".

Those who support the inverse are implicity stating their belief that Iraq is more important than (insert your region of the USA).

The "rechanneling" is going from Iraq into Afghanistan, i know where you stand on the issue but i mean do you seriously believe what you typed? I mean border security??? Obama is one of the worst in the Senate on the issue, you think that will change? See what you say makes sense, but these politicians are not in the business of logical policy making. They are in the business of pleasing business.

Stimulus money be good for several reasons

1. It pays back the people in exchange for voting for Obama. They get immediate free stuff as the Democrats promised. The money will come from the hard working Republicans as Obama will continue to take their stuff.

2. It will help the people buy toys for Christmas so their kids can get the toys to make them happy.

3. It will help the poor people feed their hungry children so they done get sick cause of little food.

4. It will piss the Republicans off and this will make the Democrats be happy.

When you add it all up it be a big win for the Democrats.

This is what I think about this here issue.

Re-channeling the money from Afghanistan eh? Where have you been? Obama has consistently said he wants to send more troops to Afghanistan.
