In a big time trade deadline deal, the NY Yankees seek to boost their ailing and mostly limp 24th ranked offense by dealing a gaggle of MiL to the Texas Rangers for Jose Gallo

Gallo is a FA after 2022 so this is more than just a two month rental

They already have about 4 players on that team just like him .

Only difference is he is more durable .

Yankees play the most boring brand of baseball I’ve ever seen .

They need guys more in the line of Tony Gwynn, Wade Boggs or Ichiro.
Pure hitters not sluggers
They don't have a well balanced lineup with guys who can hit for average run the bases and drive guys in

No, he is actually a well rounded hitter, it is 2021.
Gallo's OPS is .869, he gets on base very well with a lot of walks, his OBP is .379 which is outstanding for a power hitting outfielder. Slugging is .490.
RC/27 is a strong 6.9.
In the year 2021, and it is not about batting average, or even strikeouts, it is on base plus slugging, OPS is a good measure, there are others.
AND he is a true plus fielder, outfield defense matters, he was a Gold Glover, can play all three outfield positions.
Yanks needed a LH hitter that can bat 2-3-4-5 in the lineup, he is perfect.
Great move for them, (I am NOT a Yankee fan, just a baseball fan).

(ALL baseball is suffering from the launch angle go for home run approach, the three outcomes strikeout, walk, homers are bad for the game. High hard fastball is resulting in more strikeouts, hitters upper cutting have problems hitting the high hard pitch. Batters are encouraged to take a lot of pitches against good starters to get the pitch count up and get them out of the game. Pens are filled with several big dummies that can throw 97mph so relief pitchers are used too often)

Gallo leads ALL of MLB with 74 walks (Moneyball) by the way. Look it up, out of >500 players.

RE the boring game in 2021, they need to lower the strike zone a few inches, stop the strikeouts for those upper cutting for a HR all the time.

Also IMO they need to eliminate the shift, LH hitters especially are punished since 2B can play into short RF, right handed hitters still hit gound ball base hits between the 3b and ss all the time. LH hitters, same place on the right side, an out.

Infielders would have to be on the dirt when the ball crosses the plate, and two have to be on each side of 2b, 15 feet from the bag minimum.

That would help getting back to going for base hits, too many LH hitters have given up on base hits to the right side of the IF, and are always trying to hit long flies rather than a hard liner or grounder for a base hit.

(please do not say that LH hitters should learn to hit the other way, sure, some can adjust, but most, even big names, cannot change their swing that they have employed for over a decade --- since high school--- to push it the other way... bunting, yes, but big hitters cannot adjust their grip and swing and timing and stance and everything and suddenly become Rod Carew)

Dollar for dollar it is easily the most poorly constructed roster in MLB

Now they’ve secured 3rd place in the AL East

Congrats!

Ryu just returned for Jays, so if they can hit 86 wins, Yankees will finish fourth

Gerrit Cole with six earned runs given up today, the most he’s allowed in a single game since May 22nd, 2019.

TB Rays - who have utterly owned the Yankees since late July 2019 - currently beating their ass 14-0 in the sixth inning

Lol Yankees get another washed up player in Rizzo

Another big (240+ lbs) dude, slow afoot and frankly medium power at best...He has been below .800 OPS since early 2019

Only four position players in MLB that are both 6'5"+ and 250+ lbs and three are now w Yankees

The teams that know them best (TB and BOS) are routinely stuffing their station to station, HR or Nada offense

Other clubs can obviously follow suit

Bump.

.400 .519 .850 1.369 for a 6 game stint as a washed up first baseman playing for The Yankees.

his season numbers are more telling

Anyone can pop off for a week. Votto hit 9 HR's in 7 days and a lot of people think he is "washed"

Bottom line they’re a better team with him and gave up nothing . It’s hard to find a better glove at the position and they were too right handed .

Agreed. After both additions they are an 86-win non-playoff team, instead of of an 81-win non-playoff team
