When NBA betting restarts on July 31, one of the most interesting wrinkles to watch will be the battle for the No. 8 seed in both the Eastern and Western Conference.
While the top eight teams from each conference get passage to the NBA Playoffs, the restart plans have promised a possible play-in series should the No. 9 seed sit four or fewer points back of the No. 8 team.
Given that scenario, there are NBA odds on which team will earn the No. 8 seed in each conference. Here’s a rundown of each team’s chances.
Eastern Conference odds to be No. 8 seed
Brooklyn Nets -140
For a moment, the Nets were the sharp pick to win the NBA Championship – or at least the East – with hopes that Kevin Durant could make his franchise debut. However, KD isn’t coming back and it doesn’t look like Kyrie Irving will return from a shoulder injury either.
Orlando Magic +130
The Magic were finding their form right before the shutdown, especially on offense. Orlando averaged almost 120 points per game in March (sixth-most for the month), which was a near 15-point improvement on the season. The Magic don’t expect Jonathan Isaac or Al-Farouq Aminu to be healthy enough to restart the season.
Washington Wizards +2,500
The Wizards are the lone Eastern team outside of the playoff picture, sitting ninth at 5.5 games back of No. 8 Orlando. John Wall isn’t coming back after missing all season with an Achilles injury and Washington would likely have to run the table – and get help from Orlando and Brooklyn – in the eight-game regular season.
Western Conference odds to be No. 8 seed
Memphis Grizzlies -120
The Grizzlies restart the schedule as the eighth-place team with a 3.5-game buffer between them and the Trail Blazers, Pelicans and Kings. Memphis will benefit from the hiatus due to the returns of Jaren Jackson Jr. and Brandon Clarke from injury, as well as getting Justise Winslow into its lineup.
New Orleans Pelicans +275
There are plenty of people rooting for New Orleans to squeak into the NBA Playoffs, if only for a few more nasty Zion Williamson dunks. Zion sparked the Pelicans once making his debut in January, leading the team to an 11-9 record while averaging almost 24 points and seven rebounds per game.
Portland Trail Blazers +450
Despite the Blazers not really wanting to be here (they voted against the restart), they may hold the most value to steal the No. 8 seed. Not only does Portland have a proven superstar in Damian Lillard, but the return of Zach Collins and Jusuf Nurkic to the lineup gives the Blazers fantastic depth.
Sacramento Kings +1,200
While the Kings are the same distance back of eighth place as the Blazers, the NBA is reportedly using win percentage as the determining factor when it comes to standings. That puts Portland at an advantage (66 games played) and Sacramento and New Orleans (64 games) one-thousandth of a percentage point off the pace.
San Antonio Spurs +2,500
The Spurs are long shots to continue their 22-year postseason streak. That’s right, there hasn’t been an NBA Playoffs without San Antonio since 1997.
Phoenix Suns +20,000
Devin Booker may have been able to win the NBA2K tournament during the shutdown (using the Houston Rockets, we should add) but there’s no way he gets Phoenix into the tournament in real life.
Dallas Mavericks +100,000
The wheels would really have to come off the bus for the Mavericks to slide out of seventh, holding a seven-game bumper over the Grizzlies. Dallas was a stellar 20-12 SU and 20-10-2 ATS away from home before the pandemic. And also, Luka Doncic is amazing.

We hit around 55% to 64% in certain sports and don't have to work a full time job to get by. Stop sports gambling as a hobby and start winning like the true processionals do!!!
Being in the game for as long as I have, and expanding my connection thru the possess, has make sports handicapping much easier for me and my team of professionals. We are good at what we do and have long term friendship make each and every season.
Of the service that post here everyday, not to many that are monitored by a third party sports documented website, and the one's that are, are hitting less the 50% and I can posts the results here and prove it for those that are interested.
