Certainly the case can be made that there is far more on the tube that is damaging than is beneficial, starting with the base concept that even if you are watching something educational, or merely entertaining, you are watching others live their lives, instead of getting out and interacting with other humans and living yourself!<o></o>

The lowest of TV is the not-as-real-as-they-want-you-to-think-it-is Reality TV phenomenon. <o></o>
You know how we look back at how Lucy and Ricky had to sleep in separate beds and laugh at how prudish we were?<o></o>
Or how vapid, vacant and insipid we can be as a society with empty-headed sitcoms like “My Mother the Car” in which a guys dead mother comes back as his car?<o></o>
Or the Flying Nun? <o></o>
Or how dull we are to be duped by game shows that gave the preferred contestants answers ahead of time to ensure ratings?<o></o>
I am convinced that some day, in the future, when wiser heads prevail, we will look back at this present time of non-reality dominated programming and say it was the darkest period for the medium. Even in the midst of past participants revealing that there are plots and directions from producers the American public seems to still believe that Reality TV is real. I guess some substitute imaginary security blanket is needed for adults, since we have had to abandon Santa and the Easter bunny.<o></o>

The only TV I watch is sports and Project Runway. And even I sometimes find it hard to believe I watch Runway – but I have to admit – it cracks me up. I forgot to add the Gene Simmons Show – again, I watch because it never fails to make me laugh. Apparently we have a guy who posted a couple winners last year and built a little following.<o></o>
All the classic signs of the Jim-Jones-as-Messiah are there – <o></o>

He posts lines that are always in his favor but not always available to others;<o></o>

He posts reduced juice and rejects claims that he should post the standards of the masses;<o></o>

He posts and boasts of a winning records for past years – years that are not documented in any place, way, shape or form;<o></o>

He steals write-ups from other sources, and when caught casually dismisses it with contrite statements as “well, the pick was mine but I was too busy to write my own reasons for it;”<o></o>

He posts all his plays for the day, all based on his own personal, magical system, but when he loses an early game he adds another later play (one that just happens to be a play of the same $ size that he is already down from earlier plays); <o></o>
when posters ask “if it fits your system how come you didn’t post it in with your other plays?” our self proclaimed ex-bookmaker says he has switched from said magical system to “I added it due to inside info from sources I respect.” (and yes, of course it lost too, any experienced bettor knows that is always the end result of the chase – double your debt!)<o></o>

And oh yeah, can’t forget to mention the most pertinent fact – despite giving himself all the advantages of lines and juice, despite his inside info, despite his magical system he is down well over $10,000.00 this season.<o></o>

They buy into all of the above BS – the claims of years of success, despite only having one season of actual, monitored data, the excuses made after their Messiah was caught stealing the work of others, his blatantly obvious ghosting as supporters, his constant whining for support (not to mention attention).<o></o>

They continue to worship, despite quickly-diminishing bank rolls.<o></o>

They dismiss his detractors as jealous, instead of what they are – either sympathetic fellow humans who will not stand idle and quiet watching sheep sent to slaughter, or pissed off fellow bettors who are embarrassed at how stupid and gullible some people can be.<o></o>
For despite all this, he has disciples who loudly and proudly proclaim “You are the best, you are the greatest handicapper in the world.<o></o>
This, despite all his losing.<o></o>
Losers, one and all it seems.<o></o>

I’ve seen it before, many times, at various places – a guy comes along, wins a few games, and man, in his nature of greed, dispels all common sense and blindly follows anything and everything he says. And when his true nature is shown - as a thief, a snake oil salesman, and a liar - they turn a blind eye.<o></o>
And when the blind squirrel eventually finds his nut some Sunday, as even the biggest losers do, they will sing his praise and cry out “told ya so” to the masses. Despite still being down thousands of dollars.<o></o>

It’s a train wreck, watching these guys drink the kool-aid and dying slow deaths waiting for bank roll salvation in the form of next weeks predictions. <o></o>
Being human I had to stop by and stare in awe and wonder at the roadside carnage. <o></o>
Being that I enjoy a good laugh I had to stay for a while and take in the lunacy.<o></o>
But being intelligent I couldn’t stay long. <o></o>
