Quick isn't the problem. 2 of the goals were all on D errors and lack of heart.

Team Sweden could guarantee a Group B spot in the semifinals with a win or an overtime or shootout loss against Team North America on Wednesday (3 p.m. ET; ESPN, SN, TVA Sports).

Team Finland (0-2-0), could be eliminated Wednesday depending on the outcome of the game between Team Sweden and Team North America.

Tryin' to figure out exactly what Team NA needs to advance.....a Victory over Sweden plus what else?

Yeah these "Scenarios" always kick my ass, where regards getting a firm and accurate GRASP of total realities that might contribute to "who has a need to PLAY HARD" and who does not which....betting-wise this is basic info one should figure out regardless.

Of how hard it might be, at least we know Sweden hasn't Clenched, they do need to Play vs. Team NA.

Not a Great Revelation, I know....

Tiebreaking Procedures

The following tiebreakers will determine group rankings at the conclusion of the round robin:

Two-Way Tie
Any tie between two teams will be decided by the result of their head-to-head game.

Three/Four-Way Tie

Steps 1-5 will be calculated based upon ALL games played:

Step 1: Total Points (2 points for any win, 1 point for any OT/SO loss)
Step 2: ROW (total regulation/OT wins, not including shootout wins)
Step 3: Regulation Wins (total regulation wins only)
Step 4: Goal Differential (total goals for minus total goals against)
Step 5: Total Goals Scored (total goals for)

Steps 6-7 will be calculated based upon games played between tied teams only:
* Step 6: Goal Differential (total goals for minus total goals against)
* Step 7: Total Goals Scored (total goals for)

Notes
As soon as any three-way ties are broken down to a two-way tie, the tie will automatically be broken by the head-to-head matchup between the two tied teams (see two-way tie criteria outlined above), and not by continuing on with any additional steps.

Steps can either advance a team OR eliminate a team:

Example: A three-way tie for second place, where only one team can advance.

After applying Step 4, two teams are +2 in goal differential, one team is -1. The team with a -1 goal differential would be eliminated. The two remaining teams would be broken by their head-to-head matchup (as per two-way tie criteria outlined above).

In a four-way tie, a step can advance two teams at once. Alternatively, a single team can be advanced in a four-way tie. The remaining three teams would revert back to Step 1 to determine the No. 2 team in that group (using the three-way tiebreakers outlined above) until only one team advances.

Teams that pull their goaltender for an extra attacker during the overtime period (other than on a delayed penalty) will be subject to the potential forfeiture of their one point earned for the tie at the end of regulation in the event the opposing team scores into the empty net.

For purposes of the tiebreaking procedures, shootouts will result in the awarding of +1 goal to the winning team and -1 goal for the losing team.

that's the last time USA saw international glory at the pro level-1996, 20 years later. You make a good point. The game has grown massively in USA, lots of kids playing and enjoying this fantastic game. But, surprisingly, the international results haven't mirrored the growth at the pro level. Comparing the 90's to now? for me, one obvious difference-- quality of defensemen. That 1996 USA team that won at Montreal had THREE future Hall of Fame defensemen (Housley, Leetch, Chelios). THREE!!!!!!!!! Keep in mind, since this time there has been NO Hall of Fame-type dee....20 years later.

i'm not saying ya need hall of fame dee to win at the elite-- it most definitely helps to have a few horses/leaders at the back

no doubt. Shit hitting the fan as they exit prematurely . This tournament is on N American soil. They purposely put USA and Canada in the weakest division, yet USA lays an egg and arguably had the weakest team in this tournament.

They decided to stack the team with sandpaper, grinders--gee, they had enough to make two lines!!! Guess they felt at Sochi they failed with a skill set team (they went medal-less) , so let's go the other way on N American size rinks and forecheck the fuck out of our opponents? Didn't work as the other teams had too much skill across 3 lines.

where was Kessel? T Johnson?

this management and coaching staff should NEVER get such an opportunity again. EVER

with that said the creation of a NA team really hurt USA as clearly its not that deep a hockey nation. .....would management have taken the kids? i really don't know

this set-up is such that there's room for error in the finals--its best of 3. Making the semi-finals crucial, just one game. Having seen all the teams, Canada is the best team in this field. I have a hard time seeing any of the other teams beating them in a 2 out of 3 competition. If they survive the semi's they look golden. In the semi's they will face either;

Russia
Sweden
NA

haha!!......fun to begin.........

it would be a shame if NA exits today. The loss of Ekblad is fuckin' brutal. Who do they start in net? Pulling Murray at the last game was a statement.

i don't want a Canada Vs Russia semi's
