I was doing well and then I struggled this past week. Couldn't get a good grip on the results for the third game in each group. Happy that the knockout stage is here, as I had success four years ago in this part of the tournament. I already have futures on France, England and Portugal to win the World Cup. Unfortunately, they are all on the same side of the bracket. While I would love to see the United States advance past the Netherlands and Argentina, I don't think they can beat the Argentinians. At least not in 2022. If it comes down to Brazil and Argentina in the semis, I give the slight edge to Argentina. I can always hedge and bet Brazil in that game if I think that is the right move.

Hope our boys in the red, white and blue can get it done tomorrow. I think they match up pretty well with the Netherlands as long as they don't run out of gas. Good luck and go USA!

Sorry, I was busy at work and didn’t see this. I didn’t bet the second game. I do have bets for both games tomorrow which I will post now.

Alvaro Morata to win Golden Boot (+1600), 1*

I already have Mbappe to win the Golden Boot at 9/1. This is a bit of a hedge, but also a strategic bet. Obviously Spain hasn’t played their first knockout game yet. Morata already has three goals. If he scores tomorrow, he is solo second going into the round of eight. France also has to play England in their next match and could be eliminated. If that happens, I want to have money on someone else who will conceivably go deep in that tournament. I think Morata is the guy, especially since his price will go down if he scores and/or Spain advances tomorrow.

I think the Portugal game could be very similar to the Japan/Croatia game. The Swiss are definitely the type of team that can give Portugal problems and hang around until the very end. I was thinking about playing Switzerland to advance at +170, particularly because I have a Portugal ticket at 16/1. I might add that tomorrow.

I included my losing bet in my record on Morata to win the Golden Boot. Spain was supposed to win today, but that didn’t happen. I’m going to look at the market for Friday and Saturday’s games now. I’ll post something tonight or tomorrow morning.

I think the Netherlands run comes to an end tomorrow afternoon. Since Argentina's surprising loss to Saudi Arabia, they have shutout Mexico and Poland 2-0. The only goal they allowed against Australia was an own goal. Netherlands can score a goal and it could be 1-1 heading to extra time. But I'm going to believe in what I have seen since game one from the Argentinians and my overall thought process on how that game will go.

As much as Croatia winning tomorrow would massively help my futures on France, England, Argentina and Portugal to win the World Cup, I don't see that happening. Brazil has looked great despite not being at full strength. I considered betting Brazil -1.5, but I think Croatia is good enough to find the back of the net once. And I know Brazil is good enough to score twice. While Brazil dominated South Korea in the round of 16, the Koreans did score a goal in the second half.

Brutal day. The only positive is Brazil got eliminated, which puts me in great shape with my futures, even if Argentina chokes this one away against the Netherlands. I have a couple leans tomorrow, but I'm going to wait before placing any bets. I have been on a slide lately and I need to get it together.
