You might try going to the PC manufacturer's website and find all the XP drivers if you can scrape up a copy of XP someplace and install it first. That's what I did and I'm glad for it.

Some of the best advice on the board. That confirming stuff sounds like its from the internet security suite. I'm surprised the laptop doesnt has its own updating system. I have a HP/Compaq and they update drivers; etc.

I really like vista, also I turned the windows defender settings to their lowest level to avoid those stupid warnings.

Bought my wife an HP laptop with Vista a couple of months ago. Everything was fine until I loaded AVG on it. Everything started freezing and I couldn't open up things like firefox, control panel, etc.

I was hoping it was something other than AVG, but I uninstalled it and everything was fine. I re-loaded it and everything started freezing again. Uninstalled it and everything is fine again.

It's too bad because AVG is my favorite security package. I use it on my laptop with XP and I love it.
