note to self, picking 1st round games in the NIT is like betting on split squad exhibition baseball or week 17 in the NFL

you just have no idea who shows up

NIT opening round games, a few days after the disappointment of not getting into the NCAA's?

Go against power conference teams that were on the bubble for the NCAA's but failed who play solid teams from smaller conferences that won, say, 22-27 games, sometimes won their conference regular season but unfortunately lost in their conference tournament.

They are still pumped to play a big conference team but the big conference team, laying, say, 6-15 points, is deflated to play a little conference team.
