I believe Obama has hurt/betrayed Israel in many ways. However I don't think his mishandling of foreign policy will have lasting damage to either Israel or the US-Israel relationship going forward.
The Jews emerged as one of the first societies of the Levant around the 11th century. The term Levant was coined around 1500.
Without getting bogged down with names and definitions there's no way to tell why Obama uses this term. But we all know he has trouble calling things what they are.
Calling them 'ISIL' seems to soften the shit they do and the shit they are. These are the craziest people ever to exist in the modern world. They are Sunnis, whose main objective was to kill Shia. Now they're hitting SUNNIS in the holy city of Medina (originally a Jewish city btw).
