Why on earth would it matter to a National Election if the VP's daughter is pregnant?

Because she is going to have 2 newborns to look after. She should be a MOTHER first. Because of her situation she is not ready to be one breath away from being president of the United States.

Because he is going to have 2 young children to look after and raise. He should be a FATHER first. Because of his situation he is not ready to be the president of the United States.[/

No hypocrisy.

Today killing a baby is still a 'choice.'

Tomorrow it won't be.

:howdy:

I don't see any hypocrisy on her part. She educated her daughter in abstinence only. It was her daughter's choice to have unprotected sex which goes against what her mother taught her.

I agree with you for the most part that most women should be mothers first. However, I think we should make exceptions for those women who are able to be leaders.

I don't think because a woman has children that she can't be a leader. Look at Margaret Thatcher for example. There should be exceptions made.

Republicans sell themselves as "pro-life." However, the GOP controlled both houses of Congress and the Oval Office for six years and did nothing to overturn Roe v. Wade or stop abortion. If the Republicans were really sincere about being pro-life they could and would have already ended legal abortion in America.

The vast majority of the GOP is not serious about ending abortion, but are content on using the issue as a political football to manipulate pro-lifers into thinking they are with them. It's all talk, no action, and nothing will change.

Very accurate and well stated. If they ever ended the legal option of abortion, the pendulum would swing and they would start losing many elections. It serves the GOP purposes for Roe v. Wade to be a wedge issue (and it's not the only one) and to never be overturned.

quantumleap, palin should be ashamed at her failure as a mother for allowing her kid to fall into this situation. poor judgment by the mother. she cant maintain a household, she shouldn't be on the ticket. any parent that cares about there kid would see themselves as a failure for allowing bristol palin to become impregnated and forcefully married at 17.

now guys like willie99 dont really care about there kids so there ok with that, most american parents are like willie99 who has admitted himself he should spend more time in his kids life. that type of thinking is whats wrong with the majority of this country. we encourage this behavior. if we were taking active role in support of kid like we should be, then it wouldnt be a big deal. this proves that she doesnt.

Of course women can be leaders. She is a leader for Alaska, and seemingly a pretty good one. She's just not the right person for vice presidency. That's not a knock on her, it's a knock on John McCain's judgment.

disagree, not the moms fault...

you can teach kids to abstain all you want until your blue in the face ...you can't strap then to a chair and be with them every second, if they are not going to listen to you then they are not going to listen ...

I'm sure that pretty much all of us from all sides of the political spectrum can agree with this assessment.

Faithful PoliticoPubste5r MARK L (joeC) stated with confidence in a thread earlier today that prior to Roe v Wade in 1975, teenage girls didn't get pregnant because their "parents didn't let them out of their sight until properly married".

You're not going to argue with THAT, are ya?

After a year of nothing but boring campain news, pregnant daughter stories get great ratings.

Even if it is completely irrelevant to the election.

simple, its the hypocrisy of the republican party. they run on the basis of higher moral ground/holier then tho attitude. if this was obama daughter they would be sayin they have no morals, and if liberals like him are elected, he will spread his "wicked"/no morals to the rest of america. as they like to put it decaying american values, etc. can you imagine what rush/hannity/rest of cronies would be doing with this if it was obama/biden daughter?

secondly and more importantly, she like most right wingers support absistence instead of prevention thru safe sex/contraception. if they had it there way, safe sex woudln't be taught in school. rather they want to teach absistence. one can safely assume that absistence has failed her daughter, and would fail american teens.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is right on the mark. If this were Obama's or Biden's daughter, the Rush Limbaughs and Laura Ingrahams of the world would be falling all over themselves calling it evidence of the moral failings of liberalism. Anyone who doesn't think so is fooling themselves. (Conversely, of course, the Keith Olbermanns would be rationalizing it.)

Secondly, while "abstinence" should ALWAYS be a part of ANY sex education curriculum, "abstinence ONLY" is as bad as no sex education at all, and the Palins are now the poster family for that.

I'm confident the down home folk of Michigan , Ohio and Pennsylvania are going to bond quite well with a family that faces such crisis with honesty, love for family and responsibility.

Carry on now with the rabid foaming at the mouth attacks on this woman and family.

Brilliant!

So true the paid politicians will not end it. The common right wing religious folks would love to have their leaders actually push it and overturn Roe versus Wade however their leaders in Washington DC would be tossed out of office and the politicians know it.
