Gas, I believe that we should have a right to keep firearms in our homes for protection. I do so. However I never understood how registration, waiting periods or bans on certain types of weapons in any way impeded my right to do so.
Also it always seemed to me, that the wording of the 2nd ammendment presevers that right because of a condition that no longer exists.
Disagree somewhat judge. The 2nd amendment sounds like any congressional bill with all the riders attached. Rights are not based on conditions. They are simply what they are. I don't believe that giving away our power will solve underlying problems leading to violence to begin with.
But just for the sake of indulging you, how can you say that conditions won't change? Do you think that if the right was taken away, they'd give it back if the conditions ever reverted?
All that aside, I am thankful that I can keep myself armed for the sake of my own protection. The cops are 45 minutes from where I live as long as they aren't wuffing down their donuts at the time. And as long as they are legal, good guys can have them, not just the bad guys who don't care whether they are legal or not. Common sense tells you where to draw the line about guns and other such weapons. Live hand grenades, no. Rocket launchers no. Nuclear weapons no. A S&W .40 cal. yes. OJ Simpson no. You yes.
I just bought a couple of shot guns at a discount department store here and they made me stand around waiting on my background check to clear the state and federal authorities for about 20 min. Blew my mind that they had it down so meticulously well. I'd hardly call that an impediment.
