What happened to the Cuban argument?

I met a woman in a Barnes and Noble a few months back who proclaimed herself a Communist, it sure made for interesting conversation and I fully let her talk. She said in December she was going to fulfil her lifelong dream and move to Cuba. I said thats nice, but listen why is it fair that you have the freedom to go to Cuba and live out your dream, but the Cuban that wants to leave for another country is considered a criminal and not allowed to live out his? Her answer: "The people are depressed and have struggled so hard. The person that thinks that is just showing they are worn down by the bombardment of fascist belief and cannot truly believe that because the revolution and society are created by people like him for the people as a whole. If someone chooses to follow a different path then they are letting everyone down and the people have the right to set them straight." I know this because I made her write it down. She fully believed if you thought different than everyone else then everyone else should have the right to do whatever they wanted to you to protect their revolution. I asked what harm does this person do moving to another place and getting out of the "people's" way and she said the country need a contribution from everyone and that if this person went away that contribution would be lost and the person would likely support the enemies of the people in the end.

Now who in the world but a completely brainwashed person could be such a hypocrite??? Gotta love propoganda

True. There's something to your objection.

By the same token, did you know that as a US citizen, born of parents that are US citizens, I cannot solicit citizenship from any other nation?

This is not saying that this compares to criminalizing expats, but it does say something about the ease with which products leave the states to Mexico and points south yet how difficult it is to move away to another place.

Free TRADE, not FREE movement, is exactly what any government wants.

RFC, you can be a citizen of another country, but you must give up your citizenship to America. I could be a citizen of brazil if I chose, but I would have to renounce my American citizenship.....and that isn't forseeable. On the other hand, I have a daughter here in Brazil, her mother is brazilian, my daughter of course is a U.S. citizen as well as a citizen of Brazil.

In that case you're right. What I meant was that I cannot-- being a US citizen-- hold citizenship in two countries.

Your absolutely right about that. My question, is there any country that allows that? I have no idea. I just know that if I want to be a brazilian citizen I must renounce my U.S. citizenship.

Sure. Costa Ricans can have both US and CR citizenship. Italians and Argentines can as well...

Those are the only cases that I know of personally.
