I will not question play calling because it's relative so:

1) Choosing to receive 1st half kickoff
- your D is what got you here
2) Going for 2 with 11+ minutes left in the forth
- have some faith in your team a-hole. That should've been a game tieing fG.

I won big tonight, the over hit, CAR hit, both my teasers with CAR +13 and NE -.5 hit, but I'm from S.F. and Tom Brady you are no Joe Montana. My NHL style 3 stars 1) Jake Delhomme 2) Dan Morgan 3)Tom Brady, but I understand the victor gets the spoils.

There were a lot of good cappers on the other side on the RX, but I don't feel bad, because you guys are good and will get your money back and then some. Is NE's owner a migit?

Final comment Montana Int's in the Superbowl = 0

Great post Troy. Troy, how about letting Keith Rivers go to U of Fla. instead of USC? Keith will be a great LB wherever he goes. Hope to see you here next fall. LT

rules of nfl not the same as college... if you
chose to kickoff you will not get to receive in
the 2nd half but have to kick again. no ''deferring.''

Bottom line. Carolina scored with too much time left. Not that they have much control over it, but as soon as they scored i said, nope still too much time left. I hate NE but they are damn good. Carolina proved alot of people wrong.

Greek, check the rules they're the same in the pro's about kickoff as in college

Gator, yes looking forward to watching Rivers, you know about the last guy that came west from Florida....#1.

What a great game, my condolences to CAR fans. I still say Dan Morgan is going to be the next Junior Seau in the NFL.

That's two guys so now you guys are beginning to make me second guess myself due to the

, but from my John Madden Football days I'm pretty sure you have 5 options when you win the toss either the one of the sides, the ball, to kick or to defer your decision to the 2nd half.
By the way that umpire crew was good, how much more fun is it to watch a game without any idiotic calls/ non-calls getting in the way. I'm not at all an IND fan, but I think one reason they weren't here is because their coach never complains. Lets face it there was a rediculous amount of holding by NE in the AFC Champ. game.

believe this supports:

Coin toss
1. The toss of coin will take place within three minutes of kickoff in center of field. The toss will be called by the visiting captain. The winner may choose one of two privileges and the loser gets the other:

(a) Receive or kick
(b) Goal his team will defend

2. Immediately prior to the start of the second half, the captains of both teams must inform the officials of their respective choices. The loser of the original coin toss gets first choice.

Greek,

Dude I don't have time go through the entire NFL rulebook, but I'm telling man I think (am almost postive) there is a third option to defer your selection to the second half. Now a situation can happen where the same team gets the ball twice, but it's only when the team that wins defers, and the team that loses chooses to kick.

Point is even if what I'm saying is wrong, which it is not (because think about it if what you're saying is true you would penalize a good defensive team for winning the toss which makes no sense at all), if CAR would've kicked the ball in both halfs they still would've been in better shape.

MFT, I think you are wrong here. There's no defer option in the NFL. If you notice pro teams that win the toss, choose receive 99.9% of the time.
College teams generally prefer to defer because they have that option. To get the ball first in the 3rd Qtr.

The way the game was going, whoever had the ball last was going to win.

Maybe I've played Madden football on my computer too much, but when you got first down at the opponenets 15 with like 1:50 left you really can afford to let the clock run a little more than Carolina did. Especially when you got a couple time outs still.

Bingo, Gamblor, that was the key right there! Not only did Caro foolishly use a timeout there, but then they ran the hurry-up on the TD toss, leaving NE with FAR too much time. Notice how Belicheck masterfully left Caro with only 5 seconds after their game winning FG. And he does it every game. If you've watched these guys play all year, you've seen Belicheck's masterful clock management win game after game.

Yes fellas which brings me to point #2, why the hell did they go for 2 so early. That FG at the end should have done nothing more than to tie the game. Plus if they were ahead, they probably would've taken a few more chances on D on that last drive that could've made the difference. Again I won $$$ so I'm not complaining, however I will say NE is by far the worst 2 time champion in history. My apologies NE fan, I know you will be angry but S.F. or Dallas from the 90's would beat NE by at least 3 TD's, if not more. Somewhere in the U.S. Stan Humphries was watching this game with N. Means saying we got screwed.

I'm out.

I screamed about it when they did it. Everyone goes for two points too soon. I posted about this two times before. Only go for two in the final two minutes or when your down by 24, 16 or 8 in the final quarter. Coaches are idiots when it comes to the two-point conversion. It's fools gold. Luckily the Panthers covered, so it's no skin off my back, but they could have won it.

Great game all around! I too wished the Panthers won. They sure had a good enough shot to do so. Totally agree they should've gone for the extra point rather than going for 2 so damn early.

Delhome looked great after getting all of the jitters out. One aspect I did forget to mention untill realizing it tonight. Aside from the running game, Carolina has the knack and capability to come up with the "Big Play"... Man those guys were actually scoring at will once they got it going.

Is it too much to think there just wasn't enough time on the clock???

What game were some of you guys watching? Best Super Bowl you've ever seen?!!!!!! lol. Please.

Carolina made 2 plays all game. Shouldn't have even been close. New England almost gave this game away... with the two missed field goals and that IDIOTIC interception Brady threw. He did the exact same thing 2 weeks ago against Indy.

I had the New England money line only, so I'm satisfied, but I never should have had to sweat like that.
