Blue, Chip Caray used to be the television play by play guy for the Orlando Magic before Shaq left. He didnt seem to be that bad back then, but maybe it has something to do with the switch form b~ball to baseball. I still say Randy Cross!

i agree with the hache man. anybody who doesn't think randy cross is the worst announcer ever in any sport simply hasnt sat thru a San Fran game listening to the constant barrage of old game stories which spew from his mouth. and its really weird how in everyone of them he's the hero who saved the team in the end. he doesnt even bother to learn whos playing for the other team. never says anything about the other team except to compare it to "his" world championship teams and to point out how many light years away they are from even approaching the greatness of san fran. i listen to games on the radio from a station 1000 miles away that cuts in and out so much i only get like every third word and its STILL BETTER THAN RANDY CROSS!

MY FAV is the old guy who does the steeler games on the radio. this guy pulls no punches and has jokes so corny they are actually hilarious..hes gotta be pushin 80 yrs old, i hope he hangs around awhile longer.

I cant stand to listen to Walt Frazier of the NYK. I swear he sounds just like Yogi bear. Maybe its just me. His commentary is not that bad its that voice that just gets on my damn nerves.

He is what makes NYK broadcasts so fun. His vocabulary is second to none.

The worst is Dick Vitale, in all these years I've never learned a single thing from this idiot except Diaper Dandy, Dip-see-do-dunk-a-roo and meaningless bullshit.
Everytime he has a game I'm turning down the volume or flipping it.

By commentator, do you just mean play by play and color guys or does it include "talking heads" on sports shows. On my list,
1.) Bill Curry: for some reason when he does college football games on ESPN he just gives on my nerves.
2.) Jim Rome: I actually used to like his show on Fox when he interviewed people..but now he is "burning" on ESPN and just stands there 2 feet from the camera and talks in monotone.
3.) Mike Greenburg: On the Mike and Mike show he is just so wimpy and his voice is annoying.
4.) Trev Alberts: If he is even still around...he used to do college pre-game for CNN. He said UT got lucky one time when Florida fumbled on the goal line at Neyland stadium in 1998 when we won the National Title, but he failed to notice Al Wilson stripping the ball from the Gator player.
Almost forgot!!! This guy should have been higher on the list
5.) Bwwrent (Jimmy the Greek pronunciation)Musburger!!! If its the first drive of the 1st quarter Bwwrent will say "And the Cornhuskers must score on this drive or its all over and the Sooners will go on to win the National Title!"

Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall

a_caray1.jpg

"Aw, how could he lose it in the sun. He's from Mexico!"

"Bal-l-l-l three. C'mon, throw strikes!"

"Little tap -- easy out.
And it's none of my business but Dick Allen looks like he could use a little batting practice.
And he didn't set any speed records running down to first base either."

"Hey coach, Soderholm looks like he's running the bases
with a piano strapped to his back. That's ter-r-r-ible!"

"Ah, what I wouldn't do right now for a plate of barbecue ribs and an ice-cold Falstaff!"

Falstaff3.jpg

"Leon Russell, Stephen Stills, and Jethro Tull are all at the ballpark tonight drinking Falstaff."

S-PHTO57_l.jpg

Jimmy Piersall celebrated the 100th homer of his career by rounding the bases backwards. Piersall’s career spanned 17 years, playing for the Red Sox, Indians, Senators and Mets before retiring in 1967.

tops on my list:

Paul Olden - 10 steps beyond pathetic
Stuart Scott - i hope he loses his other eye, too, so this way he will get off TV for good. the remote control and MUTE button was invented with him in mind.

railbird's list:

tops:

Tom Kelly - he's clueless!
Keith Jackson - a great guy, too
Ted Leitner - drug test - one of the worst
Joe Morgan - BEST baseball analyst out there
Harold Reynolds - agree - and he lives near cal state fullerton and i see him atgames every so often
Matt Stevens - agree - but only because we went to the same high school and graduated the same year and i had him in a few of my HS classes.
Petro Papadakyis - you obviously live in So Cal - this is apparent - and i agree with you.

Ones I use the mute button

sean salisbury - 100% DISagree - very good at what he does - VERY good!
ron jaworski - once again - NOPE! very solid analyst
paul sunderland/stu lance - you miss chickie-baby so don't take it out on paul - for he is good and stu is very good, too.
pat haden - 100% disagree

Winkydink,

Salsibury and Jaworski think there good, think they know what there talking about, but dont. Both were horrible qbs and both talk too much.

I have always been quite the Laker hater, I enjoyed Chick in the Early 90's, but he was too much of a homer in the late 90's and 80's. Chick was a company with some talent, but nothing worse than a company man with no talent.

I was a Baron also, class of 85.
