Including the 1997 Michigan team is fucking ridiculous. That team DOMINATED every game they played, never trailed in the 2nd half of a game from what I remember, and had a roster full of future NFL players. None of their games were ever in doubt in the 4th quarter, and for them to have to share the title with Nebraska, who needed OT in a game and only got there on a fluke play against an inferior (unranked? went to a bowl?) team, is one of the greatest travesties in the history of college football. Way to show you bias OP.

'79 Notre Dame. They were defeated by Ole Miss in Jackson, MS. That would be like USC getting beat by Stanford and then winning it all.

07 LSU. Got completely run over by the Arkansas run game then got to play basically a home game for the title against a flawed Ohio St team.

OSU was in 2002, actually. They won so many close games and Miami got screwed out of that game.

Just found this thread and you are right Kevo, Miami got screwed by a Big Ten official named Terry Porter. He was nowhere near the play and threw the flag several seconds after the play was over. He had several formal complaints of flagrant calls in favor of Big 10 teams from University presidents that year. How in the hell he officiated in that game I have no idea. The only thing that can be said for OSU that night is they showed up to play, unlike the past four or five years. They did not win the game and its sad thats the only National Championship they can claim in the last 20 or 30 years. I don't even know when they won their last real National Championship. In the last 25 years Miami has won 4,5,maybe 6 National titles and played for another 4,5 or 6 and lost. I need to check the records. Sorry to ramble on,

I completely agree...no way should Ohio St even have been an option to be an answer in this question...

14-0 is 14-0....no matter if they win every game by 30 or by 3...didn't that Ohio St team have 14 guys drafted that year? That was a pretty good football team...lol

Both teams in the 2002 National Title game were unreal. I think I read where 40 out of the 44 starters for both teams where either drafted or played in the NFL. On the defensive side all 22 starters for both teams played in the NFL. I think it was the easily the most talented game in a long time.

Also go back to the 2005 OSU team was also very good which Texas beat. 3 1st round NFL receivers and a heisman winning qb.

I like Miami, and they had one hell of a team that year, BUT that call is not why they lost the game nor was it a bad call. You can argue whether it should have been defensive holding or pass interference, but illegal contact was made on Gamble.

Yea he missed the pass interference by Miami on Chris Gamble on a 3rd down play with two minutes left. The 1st down would have sealed the deal.

Either way in a very close game the officials are often the deciding factor.

Yeah, the OSU game was 2002.

Funny thing is, out of the 24 starters on that team (if you include punter and placekicker) I believe 21 went on to get drafted by NFL teams. Not to mention that their D-line that year was solid.

I believe 14 were drafted in the '04 draft. That team returned most of their starters in 2003, but Tressel screwed things up. How that man has a job is beyond me.

BYU always gets blasted on this argument and I'm not sure they deserve it. Going into the bowls that year Barry Switzer was popping off about schedules, then OU got their asses kicked by Washington in the Orange Bowl. The following August BYU beat Washington 31-3 in the Kickoff Classic. What it all proves I don't really know but I suspect that BYU team was better than a lot of people remembered.

I would seriously think 2000 Oklahoma would be a strong nominee for this title. Josh Heupel (WHO?) was the star QB. LB's Torrance Marshall and Rocky Calmus were also NFL washouts. Roy Williams went on to have a decent pro careeer. Tommy Harris has been a solid NFL star. But really looking back, I don't think this team was all that talented?
