Bad state and local govt. Should have never shut down.
Yup totally agree. We are actually in our second lockdown right now. This one is for 2wks. A lot of long time local stores/restaurants are going out of business. Sad times in the 808

I think being on the ground in NV offers a different perspective. The governor knew he was going to shut down the state and did so on March17. An effective leader would anticipate over 30% unemployment and ensure the state agencies were ramped up. An ineffective governor would have reviewed the impact of the last recession on NV when exactly the same thing happened. An over his head (see the Peter Principle), totally incompetent governor ignores each. Other NV posters here know the rest of the story and probably most others only rightfully care about their own state.

I can safely say that satisfaction with DETR is lower than 10%. Their performance is managed by the state leaders (demo and rep) the point being it is a total failure in terms of serving the public and contributed to 250,000 being at risk for eviction.

Oh yeah, that was until the governor yesterday...one day before the deadline to extend the moratorium. BTW, the bars are still closed and there is video of the guv and party in a local restaurant this weekend with live music...which is banned. He is our version of Pelosi getting her hair done.

All government driven. Keep it open. The risk would be known. Maybe a bounceback is on the way with CFB returning.

Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. I'll go with the stats knowing full well that most unemployment departments couldn't possibly "ramp up" that quickly to process 6x the highest amount they've ever had to process (and probably closer to 10x what the normal would be). I'm guessing the 87%+ that did get processed are much happier than many in the states that Nevada has outperformed. This is a waste of time at this point and completely off topic from what the poster wanted to find out. Have a good one.

To be fair Bob, the maid service you're talking about is really much more about Caesars properties as that's where you play. But as mentioned, that type of service is not consistent across the board.

Most people I know tend to agree that the Governor is an idiot, But Nevada is actually doing as good, if not better than many states on unemployment. According to this article in the Review Journal....

An analysis of U.S. Department of Labor data shows the state’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation not only paid people faster than many states, but it improved its speed in March and April — even as the state reported the highest unemployment rate nationally amid record numbers due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Paying out 87.7% within one week of filing is actually pretty remarkable considering the amount of claims. Texas had similar problems to Nevada in that there was just no way to get through to the Workforce commission if you had a problem and there are similar stories to Nevada in people that haven't received unemployment. It's really to be expected considering the amount of claims needing to be processed. It's easy to be critical, but Nevada has 6 times as many claims as it did during the recession of 2008. It sucks to be part of the 30,000, but to get 171k in claims taken care of is still pretty impressive and ranks Nevada 17th in the country (and yeah, sure everyone would like to be #1 in that category).

I honestly think most of these Vegas threads can be summed up quite easily and people's expectations going in are going to determine the type of time they have.

If someone is going in with the expectation that you're going to be drinking at bars, going to night clubs, strolling into a pool effortlessly, expecting to see shows open, and every restaurant open....you are not going to have a good time because your expectations are unrealistic. Plenty of states have restrictions on bars (not sure why that would be such a surprise to anyone)

If you take that into consideration and realize that there are still good restaurants open, plenty of table service to get drinks, sports books open, plenty of good gambling, and it's much easier to navigate the crowds (not sure why that is characterized by so many as a bad thing as it's actually quite pleasant)...you'll have a good time. My first trip back wasn't fun because I came in with the wrong expectations. My second trip was much better and quite enjoyable.

Personally, I come to Vegas for gambling. I'm not one to sit around and drink all day. I'm also a little old to be clubbing. So my experience will be vastly different from someone that enjoys that stuff.

I agree with this said, for me no Clubbing, not worry about whats going on around me when gambling, unless it pertains to me,maids you can call them if you need something but not everyday cleaning,...Hey BFL are they giving out drink tickets in the sportsbooks, and are they more liberal how many they give you

I only put down a small wager at Caesar's on my last trip and the ticket writer asked me if I wanted a drink coupon (I probably could have gotten a better gauge on how generous they were if I was just hanging out playing sports all day). My previous trip when I stayed at the Palazzo, there were no sports going on.

I'll be staying at the Venetian on my trip starting this coming Monday. And I will probably head over to Red Rock also. I'm hoping to bet some ponies and hang out for a little bit this time, so hopefully they'll have enough cocktail waitresses there so you don't have to wait too long. I'll definitely report back after my trip.
