I made a decision a few years back that what I most wanted for my three adult offspring was simple - I want for them whatever they want for themselves, absolutely no exceptions.
Four years ago in January when numerous well-meaning friends and family were urging me to "keep a closer eye on your wife's health and behavior choices' (following her quad bypass heart surgery) I was able to confidently respond, "No thanks, I want her to make whatever choices she wants to make for herself, no exceptions."
Both these positions resulted in such an improved state of well-being for me that I then adopted an overall attitude towards the world at large - I want for you whatever it is you want for you.
The relief in no longet having to track, categorize and judge other people's choices has been palpable. And as noted above, the resulting improvement in my personal health and well being is truly immeasureable.
