Truth
I agree, the sport is no better now then 15 years ago. I am no boxing expert (can't stand the sport actually) but I can't recall one Tyson win agains a quality opponent. I seem to only remember his failures and meltdowns, and there were many.

Tyson has never been a boxer. Sure he was a big hitter in his early 20's but look at the competition. Like others have said he has never been able to take a punch and in my opinion he was the creation of Don King, who controls the outcomes of all of his fights.

Tyson was the best thing that has happened to boxing in over 10 years! He was a skilled power puncher who actually got boxing off the ground in terms of pay per view! Every boxer OWES Iron Mike something for increasing the revenues in the sport!

Considering his size, he was pound for pound the best boxer in heavyweight history in my book!

I can't recall a more feared fighter, it would have been interesting to see his career play out had D'Amato lived another 15 years.

its just a unique situation.. even if he had maxed out his potential the moment the speed to his punched decreased a tick he would've lost a bunch.. he was what he was , a shooting star, for a moment in time he was fast enough skilled enough and ferocious enough to beat the best of all time. that was a small window and his profile/package was not one that played well to an extended run that would span 10 plus years. Holyfield, Bowe and Golota provided us with some epic unforgettable moments during the same era.. fuck i miss fighters like that .. Holyfield and Bowe gave every bit of themselves to us fans that were watched that era play out live.. magnificent fights they deserve every penney they made , left it all out there in the ring.. literally risked their futures and in bowes case totally compromised his future and it was pretty evident as these fights were occurring that was what was happening.

street fights are a thing of the past .. barroom brawls and street fights are very rare compared to back in the day..

nowadays boxers "fighters" train and are too valuable to be mucking it up in the street... guys need to consider their future earning potential rather than their
respect and legacy ala mayweather etc..

Everybody has their own opinion ... IMO Mike was Top 3 / untouchable with Cus and Kevin Rooney ... after losing them he fell down the ladder fast.

“I’m not a creator. What I do is discover and uncover. See my job is to take the spark and fan it. When it starts to become a little flame I feed it, and I feed the fire until it becomes a roaring blaze, and then when it turns to a roaring blaze I pour used logs on it. Then you really got a fire going.”

Personally I think if you believe Tyson in his prime could have taken guys like Ali/Foreman/Louis/Holmes in their primes you are way off.

And some of us believe the exact opposite.

Tyson (in his prime) would have layed every one of them on the canvas in first 1-3 rounds.

I have a hard time believing anyone and I mean anyone could beat Tyson when he was in his prime.

The most devastating puncher that ever lived.

This

I'm confused how anyone who has truly watched & knows sports could think any different.

He was unbeatable at one point.

His dominance would have lasted longer if not for Robin Givens...
