Got in my car and was listening to sports radio and they said a plane had struck the WTC. I couldn't believe my ears so i went back home turned on the TV and saw the south tower collapsing.

It was about 4 PM here, after a day at the office I was driving to a supermarket and the news just started.
"A plane has crashed into a skyscaper in New York...".
I thought it was just a small plane and while I was shopping I wondered how in the hell plane can crash into a skyscaper nowdays.
I went back to a car turned the radio on and they said that an another plane has crashed also to a second WTC tower. I thought this was somekind of misunderstanding, because I didn't knew there were several WTC towers. "It must be just a one plane. Two plane crash into the towers in NY same day is impossible". Something like that I thought. I went home and turned a TV on and realized that it really happened.

i wake up (most mornings) at 7P (Pacific Time) so i can catch the last 2 hours of the "tony Bruno" show. sure enough - nothing was different this day. i wake up and still groggy think i hear tony say "we are now at war." i wonder what the hell happened? i get out of bed and turn on the TV - and see what happened! i call up a good friend. i wake him up - but instead of apologizing tell him to turn on the tv. he asks "what channel" and i tell him it really doesn't matter - just turn on the tv.

the interesting thing in all this was the day BEFORE my parents flew up to SF for about 2 weeks for business.

I had been working for 2 clients all summer, one in WTC 5 and one on Wall Street. The WTC Marriott had become my home away from home.

The week before 9/11 I was assigned to a client in Japan. I returned home that Sunday evening, and decided to take a few days off due to jet lag. The montring of 9/11 I was in my kitchen watching the Today show with my wife.

Needless to say, she was sooo happy that I was at home as opposed to being at the Marriot that day.

I was abroad (2hrs behind ET) on my way downtown to drop my kids off at school. Unfortunately the local radio just mentioned that there was a fire in one of the towers. By the time I got to school, another tower had a fire and reports at the time were maybe a small plane and a helicopter had been involved. I called my dad on my cell phone and learned that it was still breaking news, while on the phone with him, he mentioned that maybe there was another fire at the pentagon. We both assumed Saddam right away, and concluded that there would be hell to pay and that Bush was the man for the situation (even though by default I cannot stand any politicians and most lawyers).

I made it to my favorite hang out to wake up the proprietor, since I didnt have cable, to watch the story. It was a tough drive home after watching the towers collapse. Fortunately for me, I lost no loved ones in the ordeal, but I felt very strongly for all those left behind who had experienced first hand losses.

God bless Americans, and everyone else who embraces freedom for all.

On the Jersey side of the Hudson River. About 2 miles from the WTC.

Sleeping on my friends couch in Boston. Was scheduled for the same flight to LA the following morning.

I drove to LA 3 days later.

I was long Nasdaq futures which were higher pre-mkt before the first plane hit and then only traded down to unchanged as the first pictures of smoke showed up on CNBC. When the second plane hit I called in to Chicago to dump the position and then heard the whole room there burst into hysterics when they became aware of what happened. I got filled down only 10 points and they were down only about 40 when the pre-mkt session closed. I was pleased to be out but then increasingly horrified as the morning progressed. So much for innocence in the new world - what a shitty day.

Sleeping in Jersey. Woken up by my ex-girlfriend. Watched the second tower fall. In that second tower was my friend and next door neighbor who worked for Cantor Fitzgerald. A terrific person. I think about him often.

My office was 2 blocks north of
the towers right across the street
from 7 WTC. You could actually hear
the planes coming in before they hit.
The first one was much louder than the
second because it literally was about
1500 feet above the building. We were
told to stay inside the building until
the first tower fell. The building shook
and the light flickered. Luckily we were
out in time before the second one fell to
avoid all those scenes you see on TV. If it
were not for the position of 7 WTC, which
took a major blow from the towers collapsing
I do not think I would be here writing this
today.

I was driving on the I-95 a few miles north of the city, to talk with some clients & then afterwards we were to get ready to go to Newark

Airport that afternoon ...
needless to say, we never made it to the airport.

We spent the entire afternoon at a park in CT looking across the Long Island Sound watch a huge ball of smoke that had replaced the faint NYC skyline.

I was watching the scores on CNN in my hotel room about 300 mts away from the American Embassy. Looking the way I do, that was not a good thing. I didn't really realize what was happening until the second plane hit....I had company over and it was too early.
