Since one of my other threads took on a life of its own and wandered into this subject, I thought it might be fun to hear people's thoughts on Abortion. As I mentioned before, there are some posters on this forum who like to pigeonhole people (i.e. all you Conservatives are that way). I think they will be very surprised by the answers on this topic

I, for one, am in favor of it, with stipulations. Perhaps Willie's answer was the one I was looking for when he said it was acceptable to him as long as the child could not survive on its own outside the womb. It definitely needs to be early on in the process.

The main reason I am in favor of it (with stipulations) has nothing to do with religious beliefs. i am understanding of those that are against it for those reasons, but will merely say that I believe the reasons I am in favor of it supersedes those beliefs. Statistically speaking, abortion has been shown to be one of the most effective deterrents against crime. And using statistical analysis, it's been proven that those states that have embraced a pro-abortion stance have had a reduction in their crime rate (regression analysis was used taking into account all techniques used to prevent crime). Ironically, I have never heard a single one of my Liberal friends be in favor of it for this reason (they just get back on their emotional thinking bandwagon).

Interested in hearing your thoughts on this.

I'll repeat my position

I'm pro-life, but I believe abortion has become part of our culture that won't be illegal in my lifetime, although I hope a better educated society will be a mitigating factor

however, I will never condone any policy that allows abortions to occur on babies that can survive outside the womb. Third trimester and partial birth abortions should be banned in all circumstances except when the mother's life is in significant jeopardy.

Barry Obama's belief that you can deny a baby that survived an abortion medical attention is the most diabolical positions ever taken by the leader of this nation. It speaks to the man's complete lack of character, despite conventional wisdom thinking otherwise. When he was a state senator, he actually argued that a baby who was alive for 24 hours after an abortion should be allowed to die because giving it medical attention would defeat the intentions of the abortionists.

He was the only member of the IL legislator to oppose giving such child medical attention. A similar bill passed in DC UNANIMOUSLY at both levels. That means our loving President was the only 1 out of 600+ to vote as he voted. Diabolical, nothing less.

I am for a woman's right to choose, except for partial birth abortions-and definitely not in the third trimester, so I guess I'm in favor of it with stipulations, like BFL

i'd have been all for it in aki's mom's case but i'm anti-abortion otherwise. i do think the folks that sit on the street corners of Chicago during RSNA with dead fetus' in a bottle are sicker than those that go forward with a late term abortion though

Government assisted abortions should come with a mandatory neutering.

Interesting line of thought. I do think you can go down that winding road of discussing whether there should be a limit on how many kids someone on welfare can have in a lifetime. Having kids you can't provide for is part of the bigger problems we are facing today in the wonder world of entitlements. The women pay a price whereas some vagabond daddy's may father twenty kids in a lifetime and never pay a penny. Only in America.

Pro choice here but like BFL with stipulations and like Gas with sterilization.

Here’s how it works, rape, incest or the health of the mother, free pass.

First abortion for whatever reason other than the above, free pass.

Second time abortion, no free pass and when the baby is aborted the mother is also sterilized.

There is no third time.

One child per woman and mandatory abortion if they get preganant thereafter with all abortions being paid for by the feds. It would cost a lot of money now but save a ton in the future.

In some ways my position is that I am strongly against unwanted pregnancy

In other ways, what matters is what a person does. If someone really didn't want to see themselves pregnany, they would have been using contraception

Likewise, it's very easy for a person to say they are against abortion. But unless they are actively doing stuff to reduce the amount, it's hard to believe it's something they truly care about (and whining and yelling that it on the internet isn't going to reduce the amount of abortions)

As much as I don't like abortions, I understand that even if they are outlawed, they are still going to happen. Putting teenagers in prison for 20 years because they use a coat hanger or throw themselves down the stairs probably isn't the best way to make our communities safer

I would like to see fully subsidized birth-control and a lot more options open for adoption and care of kids from parents who don't want anything to do with them

Letting women sell their babier on the open market would go a lot further to reducing abortions than simply banning the practice

What govt assisted abortions are you aware of?

i'm guessing he's talking about the assistance that the Govt has given Planned Parenthood for 40 years from 1970-2010 including $750M in the past two fiscal years before it got shut off...or am i just now making you aware of this?

Another abortion thread? I'll pass. Again.

heh....You One Smart Cookie, Mr Mah-tee

I'll simply offer my periodic reset that no abortion at any point whatsoever is even 1/10th as horrifying as the notion of taking a woman living in the United States of America and putting her into a prison cage because she chose of her own free will to terminate an unwanted embryo or fetus.

Vasectomy, now you are talking. Go to the source.

I concur and further submit that it is in the strong interest of the community at large that taxpayer dollars be used to subsidize free vasectomies or tubal ligations for any adult wishing to have one.

Hey there Mr B'man. I hooked up with Judge Wapner and a few a his pals Thursday night. He said he's looking forward to your visit down to Costa Rica. Nice guy, as were his friends. Had a few drinks and some dinner. Wish I could have stayed longer but had a 6:00 AM wake up call. Lot of good stories from his pals about their visits to CR. I'm sure you'll have a blast.
