Did anyone mention the Russians beating the US in basketball in 1972 amidst lots of controversy. Pretty sure that was an important play.

Also, if we are talking world sports history Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" is pretty significant and renowned.

Whats the controversy?..Game was over..Russians put extra 3 seconds on the clock so they could get that layup..USA refused to accept siver medals back them, I think.

Thought of the Hand of God as well, but thought Maradona's subsequent goal where he shit on 3 english defenders was even more impressive

the Game was particularly charged as Argentina had recently invaded the British occupied Faukland Islands.

Imagine a US v Cuba sporting event after the Crises occurred

Argentina's win led them to the World Cup
