And turned it into complete garbage with seeds and teams left out. Vandy? Texas Tech? Oregon? Tulsa? Michigan? Syracuse?

Over teams like St Bonnie, Valpo, St Mary's, South Carolina and Monmouth, Pitt?

Kentucky a 4 seed? Are you kidding me? Vandy in over South Carolina?

Worst analysis in College Basketball history.

agree with most of what you said. disagree on a couple.

TTech played in the (by far) #1 cbb conference and finished 9-9. They had wins over UALR, Hawaii, SDST, Okla, IowaSt, Baylor, Texas. Their RPI was around 35. They were a lock to get in.

Kentucky finished tied for first (and #2 seed) in a very weak conference comparatively. Sometimes teams get bumped down a seed for location purposes (playing in Iowa over Oklahoma City, for example). Maybe they should have been a 3 but were swapped with another team like TAMU for that reason. They werent going to be ahead of any of the 1 or 2 seeds and likely not ahead of Miami, Utah or West Virginia (check conference rankings and RPI....all 3 of those teams better than Ky)

Besides TAMU which would be a coin flip basically, Ky didnt deserve to be ahead of any of the teams above them based on many factors.

Oregon St got in going 9-9 in #2 conference (and the pac12 got a LOOOOOOOOOOT of love). 34 RPI. Wins over Iona, Tulsa, Oregon, USC, Cal, Utah.

Pitt made the tourney, sooooooooooooo

Agree Vandy should not have made it (and that tells you how bad the SEC was this year..making Ky's case worse).

Tulsa got in because the Oklahoma AD hired him as the Tulsa AD. Best friends or something. Absurd. No way they should be in.

Michigan should not have made it. agree

Disagree South Carolina should have been in....WEAK SOS, weak conference....only wins over Tulsa, TAMU and Vandy.

St Bonnie got jobbed. They should have been in. I see why....they were bumped b/c of mediocre non-conference (and only one win of note against Buffalo) and played in a weak overall conference (ranked 7th behind SEC). Still should have been in over Tulsa IMO

St Mary's got the St Bonnie treatment. Overall quite good, but their conference was weak and non-conference schedule...OY!

Monmouth....weak weak weak weak weak conference. That completely wrecked them unfortunately. But non-conference they did what teams should do..go out and beat good teams.

Cuse got in becase Boeheim.

oh and I think the basketball community thinks Coach Cal is a cheat....so they wanted to screw him perhaps.
Also, they want KY vs IU matchup and a 4 seed KY makes that happen

KY and IU refuse to play non-conference, so the committee makes sure it happens to give them a middle finger :)

Start this off by saying this is a completely biased opinion, I thought St. Joe's deserved a better seed. They get an 8 and get shipped out West to face a very good Oregon team if they get past Cincy. Not only that, the committee puts VCU in the same bracket with the Hawks.

agree. could have been a 7 seed playing Pitt. Wiscy was overrated

Dayton gets a 7, Hawks beat them twice this season. Not sure I understand that one.

finished higher in conference and RPI and slightly stronger OOC schedule including wins over Bammy, Iowa, Vandy, Monmouth, Ark and also played Xavier.

Advice:
Many things in this life are run by incompetent people or entities.
Many things in this life are "corrupt".
Many things in this life are "fixed".
I hate it, too, but learn to deal with it.

I agree with most of your criticisms, Red. I watched a number of PAC 10 games this season and while I think they have a handful of very good teams, the committee dipped too deep in that pool with Oregon State and overseeded others. Oregon State is a decent team but there were a number of other deserving teams left out.

I thought Calipari's little rant on ESPN yesterday was on the mark: The criteria for selection seem to change from year to year, without any notice to teams to allow them to respond (and schedule) accordingly. It's pathetic when a program like Monmouth goes out and does just what the committee had said is supposed to matter, and they're still excluded from the tournament.

It would be nice to see the NCAA do some serious soul-searching and establish a FIXED set of clearly defined criteria that they will follow from year to year, and ensure some consistency in the selection process by at least some continuity in composition of the committee. There will always be difficult decisions and teams with resumes that are hard to choose between, but this was one of the worst jobs the committee has done in recent memory.

Admittedly.....I missed Pitt getting in on the 1st glance. I went back and looked at Texas Tech and I can see your point. They just did not seem to be playing well and did not look like a good team by year end. I've really got an issue with teams that dominated their conference with only 2-3 losses 20+ wins to not get a nod over a team with .500 ball in conference and less than 20 wins. Yes the SEC was weak, but not 3 teams weak, and if South Carolina doesn't get in, then Tulsa shouldn't either because they lost head to head. Also you can't tell the Small Schools to play the big boys and then don't give them what you said you would if you beat many of them and dominated your conference. It sent a bad, bad, message to Valpo and Monmouth in particular. And to some degree St Marys, they beat Gonzaga twice.....and Gonzaga is NOT an 11 seed. Total BS..

I'd say overall we're close on most and a nice debate.

Time to make some money.....

Vandy in...South Carolina out.

Ridicules!

Hate being a homer but guess I'll chime in. How is that "ridiculous?" I whole heartedly agree with most posts here, but yours has little merit. Vandy had a better RPI and beat both the top two teams in the SEC, hammered them both. The Cocks got their asses hammered by Kentucky. I watched Monmouth play twice this season, it's a travesty they're not in, but when's the last time the NCAA put two teams from that conference in the dance, really? Sparty should have been a 1 seed, Vagina getting that spot is stupid at best. I could go on and on agreeing with almost every post here, but not yours cloverleaf, sorry.

I think the real issue is YES, the SEC was not as strong as in the past, but they were worthy of 4 teams if teams like Tulsa got in. No way Tulsa is ahead of South Carolina, the Gamecocks beat them. and their RPI's are within 7 slots so there is no reason to put Tulsa in over them. Vandy and Texas Tech both ended the season badly and those were the teams I saw versus their entire body of work.

Red, frankly, after the debacle against the Vols in the SEC Tourney opener, I did not expect Vandy in the Dance, honest to God. I listened to Castiglione several times on ESPN, and I didn't take anything for granted. Only thing that didn't happen that would have really caused some shit is OU getting a 1 seed. First year that no team in the Dance has at least four losses, looks like anything will happen. GL this tourney season.

That wasn't worded correctly......no team had less than 4 losses. GLTA in your tourney endeavors!

I still can't believe A) Utah getting a 3 B) A&M getting a 3 and C) Kentucky getting a 4. I agree with Calipari...when you don't seed teams correctly it hurts everyone........

I'm not going to open this thread anymore because I keep finding things that are BS. LOL

Let me ask ya something (my favorite question in life, LOL), don't ya have to beat every team ya play to win it all? I listened to Cal's rant, not really sure he gave a damn other than the fact his team had just beaten A&M and got seeded one slot lower. Willie could chime in, but I seem to remember UConn and Kemba Walker rolling the field as a 7 seed not that long ago. It's a real simple proposition.....you want the trophy, beat everyone in your way.
