a "square" is simply someone who isn't that knowledgeable when it comes to sports or the specifics of that particular game/sport in general, therefore shouldn't be laying any $$ based on their own decisions........My opinion anyhow.....

a lot of it is situational and how to recognize it.. Last night was a good example..

Must win for minnesota, public all over LA..

Tonight is a decent spot for detroit but not great, Indy so tough at home..

The better play is for detroit to lose tonight, then take detroit at home in game 3 -- down 2-0 for a wad..

Hard work never killed anyone, but why chance it?

If a sharpie has a line move go against him, he will lose a night's sleep and add 50 gray hairs!

I always wondered why I suffered from all of this premature gray...OF

OK Tonight, but in football, over a week if you buy early, or an opener, fall for one false move and boom, reverses on you. Very few up and downs on NBA playoffs, very little movement to begin with after first few games of a series...

All great responses, but Fezzik has the answer that I would look for, as even most wiseguys don't even get the very best number always, but rather know where the value starts and stops, thus know whether to hit or pass.

And as he points out, they always plan on paying six-figured income taxes every year..even if lowballing Uncle Sammie.

Come now Ken, following BW, BB, & HH leaves a bunch of room for error the vast majority of the time..ex:Minn +3..89-71 outright!

P.S. Lurker & Judge Wapner, you two need to post more often, enjoy your wisdom & knowledge.

Very few, less than 2% view it that way. Your best post ever, since I have been here...Best Wishes...OF

A wise guy will...

Stay up until 3AM just to bet the maximum on the second half of a college football game going on in Hawaii, and purposely wait until the kickoff because they know the line will move a 1/2 point in their favor by then.

Bet two team parlays and leave the second game open for six days.

Bet on a 56 point underdog and even make the bet on a "free half point Friday" to make it 56 1/2 points.

Bet the maximum on a WNBA game at three different books.

And most of all - never bets on the LA Lakers.

Hey Rail,

Lots of money to be made if you can get that inside information on the Little League birth certificates!

squares think they are smarter than the bookmaker......

wise-guys show they are smarter than the bookmaker....

getting the best number available????......not hardly.....

lakers opened at -8........8' now at most shops

if i can get la-7'......that would be "the best number available"... flip side minny +9 would also be the "best number available"...........

congrats SHRINK.......you now have everyone calling thier local trying to get the "best numbers".........and since they got a number that was a full-point off the "consensus" lines they bet double their normal wager......yep quick way to go busted.....

imo, many factors seperate sharps from squares....not one factor....to be successfull, got to use all of them....

Wiseguys have no day job. There info is generally so strong that when they bet, the BM is at a disadvantage.
