....just out of curiosity. What would the policy be on traveling abroad, living abroad, marrying foreigners, children born of American parents in foreign countries, those with dual citizenships?

Yes, It is impossible to shut the border with either country. Nor desirable.
Since we are playing "what if..." let me put this forward.
If the US did close the borders, no more studet visas, etc.. even if as an unexpected sidee-effect trade would go down the tubes. Look at what is happening at the Amabassador Bridge crossing right now.
Unemployment would skyrocket and poverty would be rampant. It is not unconceivable that the US would break up as a coutnry in to 5 or 6 areas. The same would happen to Canada and Mexico.
Without a foreign influence to blame, the arabs would go back to fighting each other, just like they did about some centuries ago when they were close to crushing eastern Europe.
Asia - who knows. Probably lots of wars, China gets bigger then breaks up. Only Japan remains as we know it.
Latin America - nothing changes.

of course you couldn`t hermetically seal the border....but maybe put the military on the borders for a few years....the military that you would bring back from protecting countries from all over the world.....make it absolutely as difficult as possible for people that don`t come here legally to get in....and yes,cancel student visas entirely....let these students become educated in their own countries....if you shut down the student programs,you take an enormous bite out of the terrorist problem...
tourism is do-able with stringent oversight....i doubt that trade would suffer....
and think of all the money the u.s. would save in foreign aid....that would be an enormous windfall....also bringing all the troops home from around the world....
move the u..n.to france....let them foot the bill....
as far as many on this board are concerned,it would be a great thing for the u.s. to butt out of world issues....no more american involvement or interventionism...
n korea can have s korea....let china deal with it....

the saudi arabian regime goes down....
taiwan goes the way of the do-do bird....

IMO, I think this is an urealistic hypothetical. I think it would do more harm than good to the U.S. and the world.
To throw out another hypothetical, what if we ended the war on drugs. Created the government regulated and taxed sale of marijuana. Distributed hard drugs to addicts through prescription only and spent only a fraction of what we spend combating drugs to treat addicts. Personally I think that would create revenue and reduce crime.
