Why would you call it "Coke"?Where I come from we call them "coke". At a restaurant for example the waiter will ask what type of coke you want and you will say Dr. Pepper.
I know other regions say "pop" "soda" etc
Why would you call it "Coke"?
It's like asking somebody what kind of "Pepsi" they want and them answering "Mountain Dew"
"Excuse me sir, what kind of Schwepps would you like?"
"Oh, I would like an A&W Root Beer"
I hear ya. It's kinda odd though.
Kinda like calling a Hex wrench an Allen wrench.
Yeah, when I moved from New England to Texas years ago, I thought it was strange, if you actually wanted a Coke at a restaurant, you had to order it twice:
Waiter: What would you like to drink?
Me: Coke
Waiter: What kind?
Me: Um... Coke
Waiter: ok
So, this conversation would actually make sense:
Waiter: What would you like to drink?
Me: Coke
Waiter: What kind?
Me: ... Pepsi
Waiter: ok
