Interesting thread. I would diversify how you got the money out. Neteller is gone now but they used to have a bank card which was easy to get money out wherever you were. Moneybookers is talking about coming out with a debit card. Maybe some other online processors in the US have cards. Get your money in various online books. Put in slowly, I don't think it would attract too much attention and have them w.u. it where ever you are. Precious Metals is a great option. Lots of anti-establisment types in that business to help you go under the radar. A $50 gold coin is worth $1000 anywhere in the world. There was a good read on the kitco forums about a guy paying his employees in face value gold to avoid tax. The IRS took him to court and the guy won. That could be used. I've got cash from books by courier. I know that is illegal but it seems to work. I would not do it with all of it though. Like another poster said, just declare it. I've done that when I imported some vehicles. Customs asked what it was for when I declared it, I told them and they just shrugged their shoulders. Buy a nice car with cash drive it out or have it shipped where you are going then sell it. I think if you spread it around it could be done fairly easily and it could be done in pretty short order if you were in hurry to get out of Dodge with your found money.
As for which country, that Andorra sounds nice. I like seasons though, might not be for everyone.

sinking enough money into a corporate structure would help hide the money in decent banks

by this I mean the crazy structures that I've seen in 10 years in this business

company A owns company B which then owns 50/50 company C and D which in turn blablabla

assuming they dont find the cash (there are dogs trained to detect money) by either the US or the Mexican authorities.........

I can just look at the face of the teller

"hello sir, your brand new account is opened......."

"is that one million in cash? , you are going to deposit it , you opened the account 1 sec ago and you are not even a resident?, hold on one sec, please don't go anywhere........."

"sir, please come with us" :lolBIG:

with the drug situation that there is in THAT particular border, well ....a blip in the radar would not describe this situation

I don't know about Mexico but we get people extradited out of here REGULARLY for dealing with online pharmacies, wire fraud and you got it......money laundering (which is exactly what you are doing if you are trying to smuggle cash without filling the proper forms) and lately child abduction

Neither US nor Mexican authorities will stop you at the border going into Mexico. You just drive through.

There are plenty of check points going IN to the US. None going out. You just drive through.

Bullshit. Mexico does have checkpoints going in. And US authorities can and do check cars leaving the US. They've confiscated both money and guns leaving the US in the last 6 months. Mexico has had check points at their borders for several years now. I promise you that you don't want Mexican customs to find you entering their country with a million in cash on you, that is, if you want to keep the full million.

I wouldn't exactly call them checkpoint - 90% of the cars drive right through. If a Mexican officer sees something suspicious, yes, they will pull you over. This is from the 805 south from San Diego, the main crossing. Cars flow smoothly south, very very little chance of being stopped. This would be my exit choice.

the thing here is to have the balls/attitude to stay cool knowing that if you get caught doing 'x' you are going to pay dearly

the useless authorities of my goverment (CR) catch people ALL THE TIME leaving the country with drugs or $$$ (coming from drug transactions of course)....simply by looking at them while they are waiting for their planes to board .......and seeing who is 'nervous'

I have never been searched or seen someone getting the inspection while in CR (only had customs greeting me with their cute beagles while I am waiting for my suitcases after arriving to the US) but the fact is that unless you are an awesome poker player...I don't think the average person can stay cool going through a border and seeing a cop in front of you while you think "oh shit, I hope he doesnt find out I have a million ........"

with my 'awesome' luck I would be THE one that gets stopped by authorities on either side...and then ......

Perhaps the authorities at other Mexican border crossings with lower volume check vehicles coming in. The San Ysidro border crossing is the world's busiest land border crossing. The Mexican authorities don't check you driving into Mexico unless you exhibit a blatant reason for them to stop you.

One phenomenon that I've noticed when driving toward Tijuana is speeders. It seems that drivers know they won't be stopped by US authorities once in Mexico so they race each other at speeds over (estimated) 120 mph.

Watching the boob tube the other night and they had a story about this sort of stuff. In that example the country was France, their stipulation was that they would extradite only if the USA assured them they would not seek the death penalty. I've heard of this before actually, if you are in a country that does not believe in the death penalty then I don't think by law they can legally extradite you back to a country that does.

Canada has that but when they had serial killer NG and refused to extradite unless the U.S. would not seek the death penalty, the U.S. said fine, you can keep him. Canada handed NG over to the U.S. He is now on death row.

It seems to me not having an extradition treaty with the US is really no guarantee that you won't get shipped back to the states. I imagine many of the countries on that list would simply deport you because they don't want you. And the countries that don't mind you may still ship you back at the request of the US Government.

Here's a one example of an individual being deported from Maldives, which has no extradition treaty:

I'm guessing that someone looking to hide would have to do some serious homework. This NYtimes article alludes to the fact that it has become more difficult to hide:

Andorra officially the Principality of Andorra (Catalan: Principat d'Andorra), also called the Principality of the Valleys of Andorra,[1] is a small landlocked country in western Europe, located in the eastern Pyrenees mountains and bordered by Spain and France. Once isolated, it is currently a prosperous country mainly because of tourism and its status as a tax haven. The people of Andorra are currently listed as having the second highest human life expectancy in the world, at an average of 83 years at birth (2008 est).[2] Andorra is the sixth smallest nation in Europe.

This is where i would go . Had a buddy who played pro basketball there before he moved on to france

Andorra wont extradite?

That's the photos they show the Gringos....just to keep them away...believe me, it is beautiful....[/QUOTE

Obviously you weren't there from 1965 to 1975! They didn't like "Gringos" then either.
