Kaya: you and others like you holding the opinion that a main reason for doing what we're doing is to 'steal another country's natural resources' are going to be embarrassed when you find out that the U.S. has no interest in the oil for itself, but to help rebuild Iraq, and hand it over to them. It is astounding to me the motives people off-handedly attribute here when the U.S. could have done so after the first Gulf War and didn't.

But I also totally doubt most people will admit they were wrong - they'll just change the subject - like radiofree, with his inane comment about us causing famines in the world. I'm still shaking my head over that one - if he's referring to the UN resolutions on Iraq, then as usual the murderer Saddam Hussein is once again getting a free pass for diverting the money for oil for his own purposes (banned weapons) and refusing to disarm.

radio: name the famines, including countries and dates that you are accusing the US of causing. If you say North Korea, you will have lost all credibility with me.

RFC,
Who's to blame for the other 1000 years of starving. I guess if we are all starving then you'd atleast FEEL better. Isn't all about FEELING better.

Are you admitting there is a God?

This is quintessential Jazz.
the man who never backs up a "fact" buts asks for 'examples' from everyone else.

I will find you examples. Direct AND Indirect, of where and when the US caused instability and conflict through pursuit of "interests"

If we're ALL starving there's something wrong. If we're the ONLY ones not starving, something is also wrong.

radio: you said 'famines'.

Also, you're full of it - I do back up facts when I say they are facts - at least do me the courtesy of admitting that.

But on the other hand, it's hard to care when you are working so hard to dislike the US for any reason whatsoever.

Jazz,

If my original thought cam across that I don't think everybody in here should be able to voice there opinion I am sorry that was not my intentions. I quite honestly have no real opinion on this war pro or con. And yes I agree with you that I have ZERO qualifications to plan a war. (Hell my 5 year old son beats me at most playstation games) I do appreciate you insight on the IRAQI mothers and refer back to my statement no one realy wins. You really nailed it on the head with your statement "The only thing I find offensive about some opinions is that they are not well thought out nor presented, but everyone has a right to what they believe in, pro or con."

General -- I have always respected your opinion on everything on this board. For everyones sake I hope this is ultimately not about the oil.

One comment though: no, the IRAQIS who aren't part of that brutal regime definitely will win, and they will eventually live in a country not ruled by murder and torture.

radio: that may work on an SAT but here's the real world definition of famine:

an extreme scarcity of food

Africa has known famines since time immemorial - it's their culture and the area they live in, as well as their governments, that help cause them. The United States has done more to help more people in natural disasters including famines in this world than probably any 10 countries put together (my estimate only).

Jazz,
global capitalism cannot work if everyone has money. It is based on inequalities in product and quality. This isn't such an insane idea.
To do nothing in a system that feasts while it forces famine on most parts of the world.

radio: may I ask what form of government you ascribe to?

>Again,
>To do nothing in a system that feasts

You write some of the craziest stuff...

The USA feed more non-citizens than any nation EVER in history.

Don't tell them that. Don't tell them the truth about the WTC disaster. Parents shield their children from the truth, much like a our govt. with its citizens.

Jazz,

I want to make this clear. I don't support this war whatever the supposed motive might be. In my opinion taking the oil is the only thing that makes sense because North Korea is a much greater threat but we're not mounting an attack against them. That along with the cost of this war, and as mentioned by someone else, what oil company do you think will get the contract to clean up the spills and fires after the war. If I'm wrong about it being for oil so be it. The only thing I'm embarrassed about and will continue to be embarrassed about is that George Bush Jr. is our president.

By the way, you do realize that the first time it was about oil don't you? While at that time we received only something like 10% of our oil from Iraq, Japan was getting the mayority of their out of Iraq, and of course Japan kind of had us by the balls from all the money they invested in government bonds in the Raygun era. Just political favors being paid back.
