Conan, I want to thank you for your imput out on the left coast action. Time and time again you come up with solid insight along with a few others to end Saturday nights off with a good note. Keep up the good work! Wish we had others that have the knowledge for some of the other conferences as good as yours.

Great call on Utah Conan. I like whittingham as coach and agree with a lot of what you say, I just thought washington was a far superior team. Still think they are, but you had that game read well, and Utah hung with them. There's such a talent separation it's hard for me to see how they clawed back into that game down 14-0 early, but it's great coaching that allows that. I tip my cap to you once again. I've always thought whittingham should be somewhere bigger, he's rock solid. Bol next week

Quack, thanks for the kudos.

I think the thing to remember about hype and how to filter it out
is to look at how similar the pundits that speak hype and the FBS
rankings compare. It's a lot easier for me to sniff out a problem
in the rankings than the press but it can often boil down to a smell
test anyway. For example, Utah has been ranked 17 and UW 4.
That right there elicits support for many more Huskies than Utes.
So you never hear much about the Utes. But if they were reversed
everyone would know about the Ute play-makers instead. The Utes
have what might be the biggest men on the DL than anywhere else
but the important thing is that Wittingham has them playing well.
There are also things like takeaways that represent a stat that is often
overlooked but it is a clear indication of aggressiveness.

Right now the team on the uptick that will cover a lot more than expected
are the Beavers. I saw this aggressiveness developing along with improved
execution a few weeks ago and I mentioned it. I said so in a post and said
that they'd come on in the latter part of the season, and they have. As
of now they beat CAL and covered the last 3 since then. I also predicted
that McMaryion would end up their starting QB and look at how well they've
done since. The kids got game and a cannon for an arm.

I try to keep in mind things like those when making my picks. They are
more dependable than all other things on which to decide one's choices.
These are things that are almost never figured into lines but they count
for a lot.

That was behind my Stanford selection in W9 too.
