You guys are too used to playing Derby Wars.
Horseracing is predicated on a parimutual system. The odds are determined by the bettors. Finding value is the key. There can be value in 1-1 horses. Yes, a 1-1 horse can be undervalued. There can be value in 50-1 horses. Yes there can be value in 50-1 horses. There also can be no value in 1-1 horses. Yes 1-1 horses can be overvalued. And no value in 50-1 horses.
Am I afraid of someone hitting a longshot to win the contest? Nope. If they do all the power to them. They are a better handicapper than me and deserve to win. The average bettor I know would never bet a 50-1 shot because they have no idea what a winning 50-1 shot might look like. Try betting 50-1 shots all day and see how many contests you win.
And please explain to me why I would not be rewarded fully for picking anything that pays more than some arbitrary cap. The value is in the full payoff.
I have never played in a contest like Derby Wars. I do go to the track and try to find value to bet on. Sometimes I find it and it wins. Sometimes it doesn't. If the parimutual odds said I should get a return of 500-1 that's what I would expect.
I used to have a bookie many years ago who had "caps". I found out the hard way and never bet with him again.
OK, good luck with your limited form of betting. It is flawed. Betting on horses is hard enough trying to take advantage of odds overlays created by other bettors. THen further reducing payoff appropriate to the parimutual system after track rake is just silly in my humble opinion and unreflective of actual betting on horses.
Good luck, guys. Do whatever you want but I can't run a marathon in shackles. Don't be offended. I'll just remain on the sidelines like I did for the last "contest".
Thanks.
that was YES idea BHP.Michel:
I HAVE agreed to any of your terms for a head to head contest
I am saying let’s start this Saturday for 8 Saturdays and go with your format that you posted
Only saturday's ( 8 in total)
$1000.00 a day bankroll
Min $ 33.00 a race
Max $250.00 a race
Every bet is counted downward ,from the original $1000.00 . ( min 4 races , max 30.00 races ) So it gives the disciplined , the fluid, the action and the conservative player all something to shoot for . Also plays into specific strengths of the individual player.
Once you go through the $1000.00 for the day -- can't bet anymore
All players involved will come to an agreement on reasonable caps ( re- win/palce , exactors , tris !!)
Best ROI wins contest
bump Michel wants at least 5 playersI love the idea.
Two objections:
I definitely don't want to play in a contest with capped outcomes. The challenge of horserace betting is to maximize your outcome with a finite bankroll. Picking longshots and getting them to "pay" is a significant part of the art of the game.
I also don't like the idea of a four race bet maximum. I'm a fluid handicapper. I don't often play pick 3s or 4s or 5s or 6s because I don't like advance handicapping. I like to handicap the race, then look at the odds to figure how to maximize my bet. NOT the other way around. So I can and will pass races but I can't define value until I see the board after determining the approximate odds of each contestant in my head beforehand. So I would prefer to not cap the number of races bet. If you are doing that to cut down on tracking on your part I can understand that. How about if we were to select a track for the day and stick only to that track. Would that be a good compromise?
Lastly I'm a huge NFL fan. I do straight up ATS handicapping and also participate in a venerable, very competitive fantasy football league. I also have hosted the guys each and every Patriot Sunday since 2001. So Sundays in the fall and early winter are often pretty jammed for me. I'll bet that others won't be able to make it here to handicap EVERY Sat and Sunday either for whatever reason. Maybe you solve this issue by using a total bankroll amount rather than a limited $400.00 per day.
But if you can live with what I outlined AND can get at least five participants I'll give it a shot. I don't want to be in a contest with very limited participation by others.
Thanks.
nope Michel not interested in that his words speak for themselves. Fall Game hopefully Mr. G&T can play otherwise maybe you and I can go heads up duel.
yeah a bit interesting indeed. especially since Michel said has to be at least 5 players. what's wrong with 3 or 4? And you have had this thread up for close to 2 days and no one has committed yet to play. Maybe people not interested in the honor system to collect their possible winnings or do not have the time?Jack1999
very odd a person who makes up the rules and is a good handicapper won’t take his chances beating only player instead wants a field of five where he’d have to beat 4

yeah I would rather do the honor system as otherwise 1 person would have to hold the cash. Maybe something happens? But like I said Michel just put out some ideas it was YES who gave you a concrete list. and Personally I like your bravado in the thread. it's entertaining for sure.Jack1999 I have no problem paying my entry fee(s) upfront if need be
and yes it’s sad at the lack of interest
about Michel I for sure thought with him setting his rules he and I could have a very competitive head to head matchup
and I’ll even go one step further
I’ll assure him no trash talking in the thread, just strictly business

OK BHP but do not forget last year IN our GP/TP game I destroyed you and in the spring game I beat you pretty easily as well. So you returned the favor in the summer. partly due to my lack of self control which you warned me about. and I thank you for that. too bad I did not heed your advice.Jack1999
i know in a head to head or a group contest I remain very focused and true to my game plan
I also know over 4,5,6, weeks that not too many can beat me
