My early thoughts.....
LSU is going to go with the freshman, Brandon Harris at QB. Regardless of where LSU is at playing at Auburn is going to be an extremely tough atmosphere. I think after LSU facing Prescott, they will be better prepared defensive wise; however, they are going to have to establish a solid run game to have a chance at winning. Tough line at -9, AU could easily win by 10 or more. Dangerous game with a freshman QB......if they can't establish the run LSU cannot win.
Alabama for me is currently at -8; Blake Sims in the 10-15 minute press viewings of practice has not practiced all week, but he is throwing after they leave. Bama is preparing both QB's. This is the game of the century for Ole Miss, they have never had Gameday in town. Ole Miss and Alabama have the 2 best defenses in the SEC hands down. The total is going in the wrong direction. That could be tasty....as for the team, if Alabama can ignore the crowd and hype and eliminate turnovers, they can win easily. Think its going to be a low scoring slugfest instead....
Its not necessarily Muschamp losing this team, its the team not believing in Driskel; its a big problem right now and at some point I think they will have to make a change. That point could likely come after a UT loss.
South Carolina in the 1st year of the playoff have had their hopes dashed with a loss to Missouri. I'd be concerned giving up a TD to anyone this week.
Notre Dame's statistical rankings to date against inferior competition are not that good; Stanford 1 year removed from their DC leaving for Vandy, just keeps rolling along and after playing some firepower Offenses like USC and Washington are #1 in Total Defense. Notre Dames beating of Michigan and their 2 TD wins over Purdue and Syracuse are not looking so good on the other hand.
Just my .02Cents but if you are Ol Miss, you'd hope to see Coker. IMO he's just not ready to run the offense and he limits the type of game Kiffin wants to call. As I said during the summer he'd not pick up the playbook. Not really sure the kid can 'ball but Bama was sold a bill of goods as he wont be the guy next year either because they just recruited a hot shot freshman if I am not mistaken. on the other hand, Sims running that offense has been very, very impressive with Kiffin. But this game comes down to Ol Miss and their mistake prone QB Bo Wallace. Can he be trusted to run their uptempo offense and not turn the ball over or make bad decisions. He's a guy with a career of 51TDs to 33Ints and add to this another 12 Fumbles all through 2 seasons and 4 games of a 3rd season. The spread has moved to Bama -6, tells me Sims will probably play and that there is no confidence in QB Wallace.
No doubt. the guy can coach. Look at what he did at Tenn with a team that had absolutely no talent other than Berry at Safety. The guy came within 2 block Fgs of beating Bama. Just look at the '09 season. He's in his element, but things have been good. How does he react when/if adversity hits?Sims will play, both will be prepared. Coker has a great shot at being the starter next season. Alabama has 3 QB's with talent, including Blake Barnett providing he signs. The key is bottom line Lane Kiffin is a great developer for Quarterbacks. He's done wonders with several players actually. He self destructed his personality and he knows it. By the time he leaves Alabama he will be ready to be a Head Coach. He admits that, and knows what he's got to do to fix it. My hope (and i never thought I would say this) is that the rest of the Country lets him stick around long enough to rebuild his reputation. He's a damn good coach who let his youthful arrogance stomping on anything for his own personal gain almost ruin his career.
I have a feeling the linesmakers are getting very honed in on these teams and the lines are going to be much tighter this week. Don't be surprised if the public bets themselves right out of some of these games. In other words, the early Bama backers might be happy with their lines when the game is over, the other half maybe not so much...
Baylor is going to beat the brakes off texas. Coach Briles needs to run it up on crappy teams for the playoff committee. And texas is that crappy team.
In the recent past, Baylor has been beating texas by 20 points. And that was before they pissed off Briles with the coaching search circus after mack brown was fired. You may want to start drinking early if you don't want to see a massacre. Baylor by 30+points.
nebraska was +8, not +7 ... why? cause they beat illinois? mich state undervalued i think
The line is perfect. Nebraska can keep this with in touchdown or even win straight up. What has Michigan state done? They trashed emu, jacksonville state and wyoming and they are all worse than illinois. They lost to oregon by more than two touchdowns.
Miami -3, Virginia-5, and Baylor -14
