Any thoughts Mr. Shivers on Navy +7 trying to spoil Pittsburgh's 3-0 start and Wyoming +7 trying to extend to Coloardo's season misery to 0-3?

pags,

VT and Nebraska both have some defensive question marks. Nebraska allowing nearly 19 FD's a game and 150 rushing yards a game in 2 Sun Belt games so far. This early in the season I don't put too much weight on stats as they are often skewed, for me this is more of a situational play at getting a first year starter on the road in his first game in an extremely hostile environment. VT should have a very healthy running game here that allows them to control the tempo IMO.

Hate to be against you here again. I was right last week about UNC shutting the Husky offense down but clearly the UNC offense had problems of his own. Points were at a premium and you had the right side. My turn this week bud...

John,

Not an expert on either team by a long shot but gun to my head I would take the points with Navy and lay them with Colorado. That Navy game looks like a defensive struggle to me and we have seen how Navy over the years have been a pretty decent team who can play with the bigger schools with more depth. Colorado has looked like the worst team in the world in 2 national TV games and now their laying 7? Looks too easy to fade the Buff's in what is already a must-win game for coach Hawkins.

Neither are plays for me but since you asked...

Thanks for the imput JS. Any hope of Virginia breaking out of their dilema? Had an opportunity to attend a game in Virginia many years ago when I was a student at Clemson. Not to say Tigers and Cavaliers exchage Christmas Cards on a yearly basis, but would hate to see a program with a fairly decent tradition remain winless throughout the season.

I know what you mean, its seems like UVA deserves better. They had a great thing going in the Welsh era and the ACC just seems to be a better place when they are competitive. Its a beautiful campus that has produced some ugly teams in the revenue sports lately. Still looking at a play on UVA this weekend but not sure if I want to jump off that bridge just yet. They looked awfully apathetic against TCU and if this team is quitting on coach Groh there is no use in backing them.

1-0 + 5 units this week

BC has hit 7, so I will add a unit on that game. Also picking up a unit on FSU @ +8

**** BC +6.5
* BC +7
*** ECU +7.5
** FSU +7.5
* FSU +8
** VT -5
*KU -22.5

Adding:

*** Middle Tennessee State / Maryland O 50

My reason for liking this play comes with the vistors. MTS runs a spread offense that thrives on creating space and favorable match-ups. Maryland recently lost team captain and leading corner Carroll for the season and should struggle with some of the 4 and 5 wr set-ups MTS likes to bring. MD is having a ton of trouble getting pressure on the QB and is relying on their blitzing to get pressure (2 sacks so far, both by non-DL's). Maryland also has yet to create a turnover this year and I think the experienced MTS O-line should give Dasher all day to throw and try to stretch the field. MD is also giving up more than 6 ypc in their first 2 games so MTS should be able to string together some scoring drives.

All that, and Maryland is favored by 7. Young OL for the terps but there is some explosive talent on offense at the skill positions (Scott, Meggett & Smith with an experienced QB in Turner). Also this is a revenge spot for the Terps for a game in which the lost in Murfeeesboro last year w/o getting much of anything from their offense. I expect both teams to be able to move the ball here and a final score of something along the lines of 31-24 Maryland.

Might have 1 more play but looking like I'm close to being done here.

I liked your call on Tarheels -3 over ECU Pirates. NC D is tough, but one can still visualize ECU giving 115% to try and steal an upset at Keenan Stadium.

Thanks John, I like this situation because both teams have a lot of question marks on offense and points should be at a premium. Possibly a lookahead game for a 2-0 going to Atlanta next weeked versus a team who will be jacked to the gills here. I think we can expect a battle.

In further regard to the BYU-FSU game, I would like to add that I'm looking at this game as a great situation for FSU. Surely all the pressure in this match-up is on the newly crowned BCS-darlings, and I think a team like FSU can really get excited about the idea of playing spoiler. Being @ home helps but if they don't get off to a quick start then FSU gets a big momentum boost from not getting their doors blown off. Be assured that this is a confident FSU team that will believe they can win.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the FSU team speed is going to overwhelm BY on both sides of the field. The cougar O-line is big (321 lbs on average) but the defensive front for FSU is more athletic than they are and will get into the backfield all day.

The media pressure on the Cougars is up to a 10 already. They have never been here before with this amount of hype and expecting an offense only returning 4 starters do beat FSU by DD is outrageous. The FSU line is going to give Ponder all day to throw and he throws a good ball, something FSU hasnt had since Chris Weinke.

I'm going to grab a piece of this ML while its where it is. Doesn't count for my record but I have a Unit on FSU +270. IMO its a coinflip game but FSU is a very live dog here. BOL to you all :toast:
