Preview: Athletics at Twins
GAME: Oakland Athletics (11-15) at Minnesota Twins (13-11)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 03 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Minnesota Twins quickly buried the memory of their previous homestand in Tuesday's series opener against the visiting Oakland Athletics, hammering six home runs to set a record for Target Field. Minnesota will look to match its longest winning streak of the season on Wednesday when it continues a three-game series against the Athletics.

Winners of five of six overall following Tuesday's 9-1 drubbing of Oakland, the Twins have amassed 22 runs during their three-game winning streak. Brian Dozier, who hit 42 homers last season, clubbed a pair in the series opener while red-hot Miguel Sano has homered in three straight games and knocked in 11 runs. Since ripping off five straight wins to move two games above .500, the Athletics have dropped seven of eight and are 1-6 on their nine-game road trip. Oakland's Kendall Graveman, who has won both his career starts versus the Twins, will oppose Minnesota left-hander Hector Santiago in the middle game of the series.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, NBC Sports California (Oakland), FSN North (Minnesota)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics RH Kendall Graveman (2-1, 2.25 ERA) vs. Twins LH Héctor Santiago (2-1, 2.43)

Graveman absorbed his first defeat in his first start since coming off the disabled list, even though he limited the Los Angeles Angels to two runs over six innings. It marked the fourth time in as many starts that Graveman has yielded two runs or fewer and six hits or fewer. The 26-year-old Graveman has allowed three runs in 12 2/3 innings in his two career starts against Minnesota.

Santiago did not factor in the decision last time out against Texas, giving up two runs in a season-low five innings. A trade-deadline acquisition last year, Santiago has surrendered a combined eight runs in his five starts and is 2-0 with a 1.96 ERA in his three outings at Target Field. Santiago has owned Oakland second baseman Jed Lowrie, holding him hitless in 21 at-bats.

WALK-OFFS

1. Sano is 12-for-20 with four homers and 13 RBIs during a five-game hitting streak.

2. Oakland batters have struck out at least 10 times in seven of its last eight games.

3. Twins 1B Joe Mauer's homer Tuesday was his first since Sept. 9, 2016.

Preview: Rangers at Astros
GAME: Texas Rangers (11-16) at Houston Astros (18-9)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 03 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas

The Houston Astros have recorded comeback victories behind five-run innings in each of the first two games of the series and attempt to beat the visiting Texas Rangers again on Wednesday in the third contest of their four-game set. Marwin Gonzalez was the hero of Tuesday's 8-7 victory, belting a grand slam in the eighth-inning uprising as part of his two-homer, five-RBI performance.

The Astros are a scintillating 14-4 against their American League West rivals and stand 4-1 on a seven-game homestand. Jose Altuve belted a two-run homer on Tuesday and is 6-for-13 with two blasts, four RBIs and five runs scored over his last four games. Texas launched five homers in Tuesday's loss but struck out 16 times - Mike Napoli (four) and Joey Gallo combined for seven - as the club lost for the sixth time in eight games. Three other players struck out twice - including Rougned Odor, who is hitless in eight at-bats in the series and 2-for-20 over his last five contests.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Texas), ROOT (Houston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Nick Martinez (0-0, 2.77 ERA) vs. Astros RH Charlie Morton (2-2, 4.50)

Martinez has put together back-to-back strong starts since being recalled from the minors and is limiting opponents to a .188 batting average. The 26-year-old is winless in eight consecutive turns since defeating Houston on Aug. 5, 2015 and is 3-1 with a 2.33 ERA in seven career appearances (four starts) against the Astros. Martinez experienced major difficulties with Josh Reddick (7-for-14, one homer) when the right fielder was with Oakland but has shut down Jake Marisnick (0-for-7).

Morton struck out a career-best 12 while beating Oakland in his last turn, when he gave up four runs and five hits in seven innings. The 33-year-old's lone career outing against the Rangers came in 2008 - in his second career start - when he yielded three runs and five hits in five frames while with Atlanta. Morton routinely shut down Jonathan Lucroy (2-for-17) and struggled with Carlos Gomez (5-for-13, one homer) when all three were in the National League.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rangers LHP Cole Hamels (oblique) was scratched just minutes before Tuesday's start and is expected to land on the 10-day disabled list.

2. Houston DH Carlos Beltran was 3-for-5 with two runs scored after going 3-for-21 with eight strikeouts in his previous six contests.

3. Lucroy matched a season high with three hits on Tuesday and homered for the first time since April 11.

Preview: Brewers at Cardinals
GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (14-14) at St. Louis Cardinals (13-13)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 03 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri

Kolten Wong made amends for both a baserunning and defensive miscue in the opener to help the St. Louis Cardinals level the four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers at one victory apiece. Wong looks to keep the Cardinals surging in the right direction on Wednesday when the National League Central rivals reconvene at Busch Stadium.

Wong made good on his promise to "turn it around" by capping a two-hit performance with an RBI single in Tuesday's 2-1 triumph for St. Louis (13-13), which has evened its record after winning 10 of its last 14. The 26-year-old Wong is 11-for-26 with five runs scored and four RBIs during his eight-game hitting streak and 7-for-16 versus Milwaukee this season. The Brewers have dropped six of their last 11 overall, beginning with three straight setbacks against the Cardinals on April 21-23. Domingo Santana went hitless in nine at-bats in that stretch but has rebounded by going 6-for-15 with three homers, seven RBIs and five runs scored in his last five contests.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, FSN Milwaukee, FSN Midwest (St. Louis)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Chase Anderson (2-0, 2.10 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Adam Wainwright (2-3, 6.12)

Anderson has pitched well in six career meetings with St. Louis, but is left with an 0-2 mark despite boasting a 1.97 ERA. The 29-year-old settled for the first of his two straight no-decisions on April 22 despite allowing one unearned run and striking out six versus the Cardinals. Anderson followed that with his second straight six-inning outing, although he permitted four runs on as many hits and issued a season-high three walks against Atlanta.

Wainwright snapped a three-game season-opening skid by striking out nine over five innings in a 6-3 victory at Milwaukee, improving his career mark to 15-8 versus the club. The 35-year-old answered that outing by benefitting from an early six-run barrage by his offense to help St. Louis sweep a doubleheader versus Toronto on Thursday. Wainwright overcame a four-run fifth inning as well as his third homer in his last three starts to pick up his second straight win.

WALK-OFFS

1. Milwaukee SS Orlando Arcia is 0-for-6 with two strikeouts in the series on the heels of recording two homers among his six hits and six RBIs in his previous four games.

2. Cardinals OF Dexter Fowler is 1-for-18 with eight strikeouts in five contests versus the Brewers this season.

3. Milwaukee OF Ryan Braun likely will not be in the starting lineup for the third straight game on Wednesday as he deals with tightness in his right trapezius muscle.

Preview: White Sox at Royals
GAME: Chicago White Sox (14-11) at Kansas City Royals (8-17)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 03 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri

The performance of Avisail Garcia has been one of the early-season surprises in baseball, and he looks to continue his hot start when the Chicago White Sox visit the Kansas City Royals for the third contest of their four-game series on Wednesday. Garcia reached base four times during Tuesday's 6-0 victory, going 2-for-2 while drawing a walk and getting hit by a pitch, to raise his American League-best average to .382.

The 25-year-old Garcia sat out the series opener due to a groin injury, but his strong effort in his return leaves him 7-for-15 with six runs scored in four games against the Royals this season. Geovany Soto contributed two hits and two RBIs for Chicago, which has won seven of its last nine games and scored six or more runs on six occasions in that span. Kansas City recorded only four hits on Tuesday while falling to the White Sox for the fourth time in five meetings this season. The Royals, who have dropped 10 of their last 11 overall games, continue to struggle to light up the scoreboard as their 69 runs scored are easily the fewest in the majors.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, CSN Chicago Plus, FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Mike Pelfrey (0-1, 5.00 ERA) vs. Royals RH Nathan Karns (0-2, 6.26)

Pelfrey is making his third start of the season after lasting fewer than five innings in each of the first two. The 33-year-old was cut by Detroit during spring training and is trying to rebound from a poor 2016 campaign in which he went 4-10 with a 5.07 ERA for the Tigers. Pelfrey is 1-4 with a 6.51 ERA in nine career appearances (eight starts) versus the Royals and has been hit hard by Lorenzo Cain (8-for-16), Eric Hosmer (6-for-13), Mike Moustakas (6-for-14, two homers), Alcides Escobar (9-for-23) and Alex Gordon (7-for-18, one homer).

Karns has dropped his last two starts while being rocked for 10 runs and 12 hits in 10 2/3 innings. The 29-year-old was pounded for a career-high four homers in a loss to the Texas on April 21 and has served up six in just 23 frames this season. Karns lost to the White Sox on April 26, when he gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings to fall to 0-2 with a 5.24 ERA in four career starts versus Chicago.

WALK-OFFS

1. White Sox 1B Jose Abreu, who is 1-for-9 in the series after six consecutive two-hit efforts, is 4-for-9 with a homer and three doubles versus Karns.

2. Cain has gone 2-for-27 over his last seven games to see his average drop 80 points to .253.

3. Chicago optioned Jacob May (2-for-36) to Triple-A Charlotte and recalled fellow OF Willy Garcia from the same club.

Preview: Angels at Mariners
GAME: Los Angeles Angels (15-13) at Seattle Mariners (11-16)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 03 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington

The Los Angeles Angels had to work extra hard in the series opener to claim a victory and will be looking for their eighth win in nine games when they visit the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. The red-hot Angels pushed across two runs in the 11th inning for a 6-4 triumph in Tuesday's opener of the three-game set.

Albert Pujols recorded three hits on Tuesday, including the tiebreaking double in the 11th inning, and Mike Trout extended his hitting streak to 15 games - matching his career best. Both players have struggled against scheduled Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma, as Trout is batting just .180 with one homer in 50 career at-bats and Pujols (two homers) is even worse at .140 in 57 at-bats. The Mariners, who have dropped three straight overall games, are 0-4 against the Angels this season. Nelson Cruz has recorded five homers and 16 RBIs during an 11-game hitting streak and has gone deep three times in 18 career at-bats against scheduled Los Angeles starter Ricky Nolasco.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), ROOT (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Ricky Nolasco (2-2, 4.13 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Hisashi Iwakuma (0-2, 4.15)

Nolasco has won back-to-back decisions, including a victory over Oakland last time out in which he allowed one run and three hits in 5 2/3 innings. The 34-year-old served up seven homers over his first four starts before keeping the ball in the park against the Athletics. Nolasco settled for a no-decision against Seattle on April 8, when he gave up two runs and four hits over six frames, and is 1-4 with a 4.33 ERA in six career starts versus the Mariners.

Iwakuma is winless in five starts and has lasted less than six innings in each of his last three turns. The 36-year-old recorded a career-best 16 wins last season, but a strikeout-to-walk ratio that was more than 7-to-1 in 2014 is nearly even this season (12 strikeouts, 11 walks). Iwakuma is 9-5 with a 2.76 ERA in 20 career appearances (19 starts) against the Angels and gave up one run and two hits in six innings of a no-decision on April 9.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners 2B Robinson Cano, who is 6-for-15 with two homers against Nolasco, registered his second three-hit performance of the season in the opener.

2. Los Angeles 2B Danny Espinosa was hitless in six at-bats in the opener and is 2-for-38 over his last 11 contests.

3. Seattle recalled RHPs Jean Machi and Emilio Pagan from Triple-A Tacoma, optioned 1B Daniel Vogelbach to the same club and designated RHP Casey Fien for assignment.

Preview: Giants at Dodgers
GAME: San Francisco Giants (10-18) at Los Angeles Dodgers (15-13)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 03 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California

The Los Angeles Dodgers planned on sending Cody Bellinger back to the minors later this week, but the rookie might be forcing the team to reconsider. The 21-year-old looks to continue his torrid start on Wednesday as the Dodgers host the San Francisco Giants for the rubber match of their three-game series.

Bellinger filled the boxscore for Tuesday’s 13-5 victory with two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs as the Dodgers won for the fifth time in six games. Los Angeles will need to make a roster move on Friday, when Joc Pederson (groin strain) is expected to be activated from the disabled list, but it might be difficult to demote Bellinger, who is 10-for-29 with two home runs and five RBIs in his first eight games. San Francisco has won back-to-back contests just once this season and continues to struggle offensively, although Brandon Belt provided a spark on Tuesday with two hits and two RBIs. The injury-plagued Giants have some concern about pitcher Johnny Cueto, who is battling a nagging blister problem but is expected to make his next start Sunday at Cincinnati.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, NBC Sports Bay Area (San Francisco), SportsNet LA, KTLA (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Jeff Samardzija (0-4, 6.32 ERA) vs. Dodgers LH Julio Urias (0-0, 1.59)

Samardzija remained winless on Friday despite a strong effort against San Diego, allowing three runs - two earned - in seven innings. It was an encouraging performance for the veteran, who allowed a total of 11 runs over 12 1/3 frames in his previous two starts. Samardzija has gone 1-3 with a 4.62 ERA in six career games (four starts) against Los Angeles, including 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in three outings at Dodger Stadium.

Urias made an impressive season debut Thursday against the Giants, allowing one run and four hits in 5 2/3 innings. The 20-year-old has gone 4-0 with a 1.91 ERA in his last 10 games (seven starts) with 40 strikeouts against 18 walks. Belt is 3-for-6 with a home run versus Urias, who is 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA in three appearances (two starts) against the Giants.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Dodgers activated Franklin Gutierrez from the 10-day disabled list and optioned fellow OF Scott Van Slyke to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

2. The Giants optioned RHP Chris Stratton to Triple-A Sacramento and recalled LHP Josh Osich.

3. Los Angeles 2B Logan Forsythe (toe) is on a rehab assignment with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and could be activated as soon as Friday.

Preview: Rockies at Padres
GAME: Colorado Rockies (16-11) at San Diego Padres (12-16)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 03 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Petco Park, San Diego, California

The San Diego Padres vie for their fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday as they continue their eight-game homestand against the Colorado Rockies. San Diego concluded a 3-4 road trip with a pair of triumphs in San Francisco before posting a 6-2 win on Tuesday in the opener of its three-game series against Colorado.

The Padres managed only five hits in the victory, but four were for extra bases - including back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning by Yangervis Solarte and Ryan Schimpf, who is batting just .156 but has hit safely in five of his last six contests. Colorado fell to 2-2 on its six-game road trip, which began with two victories in Arizona before the club totaled two runs in a pair of setbacks. Nolan Arenado had his eight-game hitting streak snapped on Sunday but bounced back with a two-hit performance that also included an RBI. Charlie Blackmon also notched a pair of hits for the Rockies after his 14-game streak came to an end in his previous contest.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, ROOT (Colorado), FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Antonio Senzatela (3-1, 2.81 ERA) vs. Padres RH Jered Weaver (0-2, 4.71)

Senzatela looks to bounce back from his first major-league loss, a setback against Washington on Thursday in which he surrendered four runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings. The 22-year-old Venezuelan won each of his previous three outings, working seven innings in each while issuing a total of one walk. Senzatela posted his first career win against San Diego on April 11, when he gave up two runs and five hits.

Weaver remains in search of his first win with San Diego after being tagged for five runs over 5 2/3 innings of a loss at Arizona on Thursday. The 34-year-old Californian, who served up a league-leading 37 home runs last season, entered Tuesday having allowed a major league-high 10 blasts after being reached for three by the Diamondbacks. Weaver did not receive a decision in his two previous career starts against the Rockies, including an outing opposite Senzatela in Colorado last month in which he gave up two runs and three hits - two homers - over six frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Rockies are 8-0 in one-run games this year after going 12-20 last season.

2. Padres 1B Wil Myers was kept in the ballpark Tuesday after homering in each of his previous two contests but recorded an RBI, giving him seven in his last three games.

3. Colorado C Tony Wolters (head) left Tuesday's game and is day-to-day while LHP Mike Dunn (back spasms) hopes to be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday.
