Kouzmanoff surgery seems likely, could miss 3 months

Kevin Kouzmanoff will likely require surgery to a herniated disk in his back according to ESPN.

Kouzmanoff has been filling in for the injured Adrian Beltre in the Rangers batting order and has paid dividends hitting .326 with two home runs and 10 RBI's since Beltre left the lineup. Kouzmanoff has been dealing with back issues for over a decade now, but it appears a surgery is imminent.

The recovery time for the proposed surgery is seven to 12 weeks.

McAllister getting start on three days rest

Zach McAllister will take to the mound for the Cleveland Indians on three days rest Wednesday. McAllister is being thrust into his first ever start on three days rest because the Indians moved Carlos Carrasco to the bullpen.

McAllister has been good to the Indians though, with Cleveland going 7-1 in his last eight starts including 4-1 on the road.

The Indians (+136) are road dogs as they take on the Angels (-148).

Noah reveals knee injury, refuses to use as excuse

While his six-point, 18-rebound, seven-assist, three-blocked shot stat line was typical of a Joakim Noah night, it was clear from the opening tip Tuesday evening that the All-Star center wasn’t quite himself in the Bulls’ Game 5, season-ending, 75-69 loss to the Wizards at the United Center.

Visibly hobbled while running the floor, Noah gutted out the contest and although it was teammate Taj Gibson that would have to leave the floor — with 7:51 remaining, Gibson suffered a gruesome left-ankle injury and unable to talk under his own power, had to receive assistance going to the locker room — the versatile offensive facilitator and defensive anchor would later acknowledge that he wasn’t at full strength, albeit reluctantly.

“There’s really no excuses right now. It’s been a long year and yeah, I’ve got things I’ve got to take care of,” Noah said. “My knee. My knee is bothering me. My left knee. I’m not sure what it is, but I was able to play today. I think I was limited a little bit. But it’s no excuses. I’ll check it out, find out what’s wrong and take care of it. And now, we’ve got a lot of time to take care of it.”

Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau revealed that Noah had been playing with the publicly undiagnosed ailment since the regular season.

Road dog paying out for bettors in Nets-Raptors series

It seems like nobody quite knows how to take the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors series. Keen bettors have noticed a great betting trend going into Game 5 in Toronto Wednesday.

In the first four games in the Nets-Raps series the road team was the underdog and in those games the dog is 3-0-1 against the spread for bettors.

The Nets are currently +3.5 for Wednesday's crucial Game 5.

MacKinnon providing pop at Pepsi Center

Nathan MacKinnon has been a revelation for the Colorado Avalanche and it's become clear that the youngster loves playing in the Pepsi Center.

MacKinnon has 10-points (two goals, eight assists) during the playoffs, which happens to be the most of any player. What's astonishing about those 10-points is that MacKinnon has scored everyone of them when the Avs played at home. That means that MacKinnon has averaged over 3-points a game at the Pepsi Center in the playoffs.

Colorado are -132 home favs to top the Minnesota Wild (+122) and book their trip to Round 2 Wednesday.

Panthers GM high on Barry Trotz

The Florida Panthers announced Tuesday that they have fired interim head coach Peter Horachek. Horachek replaced head coach Kevin Dineen on Nov.8 and led the Panthers to a 26-34-6 record over the final 66 games of the season as Florida missed the postseason for the 12th time in 13 seasons.

Horachek’s dismissal means that the Panthers are now one of three NHL teams with a head coaching vacancy along with the Capitals and Nashville Predators.

Don’t be surprised to hear the names Peter Laviolette and Barry Trotz – two names that have been linked to the Capitals’ head coaching vacancy this week- bandied about as the Panthers look to hire a 13th head coach in the franchise’s 21-year history.

“Barry Trotz is one hell of a coach,” Tallon told reporters Tuesday in South Florida.

Trotz went 557-479-60-100 in 15 seasons with Nashville, and led the Predators to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in seven of eight years from 2004-2012. Trotz could be seen as an ideal fit for Florida given his prior success in a non-traditional hockey market with young teams built from the goal line out.
