(965) ST. LOUIS CARDINALS VS (966) SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

Take: (966) SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS (Game 4)

Reason: Two veteran playoff teams butt heads here in game four on Wednesday as the Giants host the Cardinals. The Cards seemed to have little trouble with the Dodgers in the NLDS, though they never do. The Giants though are a team with lots of playoff experience and also some World Series titles under their collective belts. The Giants split the first two games in St Louis and returned home for game 3. In game one of this series Giants Ace Baumgartner pitched a gem, in a 3-0 win. Game 2 taken by the Cardinals, a 5-4 win by St Louis and Lance Lynn. Ryan Vogelsong gets the start for the Giants in game 4 with a 8-13 mark and 4.00 ERA. A huge blowo here for the Cardianls will be the likely loss of catcher Molina. Molina, one of the best defensive catchers in baseball, missed Tuesday's contest with a strained oblique. He could play here on Wednesday, however he will be in considerable pain with his severe injury. This is a huge blow for the Cardinals because they face a Giats team that is 21-8 in their last 29 playoff games and 16-5 in their last 21 home games. Add to that that they are 14-6 when Vogelsong starts against the NL Central and this doesn't lineup well for the Cardinals. I'm taking the Giants here in Game 4.

(965) ST. LOUIS CARDINALS VS (966) SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

Take: Over (Game 4)

Reason: Your Bonus Play for Wednesday, October 15, 2014 is in the NLCS Game 4 contest between the St Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants. Oh, if only the Cardinals could just play the Dodgers every series of the postseason, they would get to the world series no problem. The Cards once again dominated the Dodgers, something they have done in the postseason dating back to 1986. The problem now is that the redbirds are playing arguably one of the best postseason clubs in the Giants. San Francisco just seems to kick it up an extra gear once they hit the playoffs and we are seeing that again this season. The Giants split the first two games in St Louis and returned home for game 3. But what I'm looking at here is the total. When you think of the Giants home ballpark you think under, but it's really been a good over park of late. In fact, the Giants are 12-3 Over/Under in their last 15 playoff games. In game one of this series it was an UNDER, a 3-0 win by the Giants. Game 2 was an over, a 5-4 win by St Louis. Game 3 in San Francisco also went also, making that 2-1 Over/Under in this series. Ryan Vogelsong gets the start for the Giants with a 8-13 mark and 4.00 ERA. The last six times that Vogelsong has faced the Cardinals, five have gone OVER. Shelby Miller gets the start for the birds with a 10-9 record and 3.74 ERA. Some pretty good trends line up in favor the OVER here and with two pitchers that a bit further down on the starters list, I like this one to continue the trend and go over. Your Bonus Play for Wednesday is the OVER.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Francisco Giants

Free MLB Play San Francisco Giants

Two of the three games in this series have been decided by just one run, so many might be inclined to zig zag with the Cardinals tonight. I think the Giants have showed that the perform better under pressure, and I give them a slight edge in starting pitchers with Vogelsong opposite Miller.

The veteran Vogelsong didn't have a great season overall (8-13, 4.00 ERA), but he did fare better at home than he did on the road. He pitched very well in the NLDS versus the Nationals, allowing just one run on two hits over 5 2/3 innings in a 3-2 win in San Francisco. He allowed a pair of runs on six hits, fanning eight over seven innings in a 2-0 loss to the Cardinals when he faced them at home during the regular season. The Giants should be able to give him a bit better run support in tonight's contest.

Shelby Miller wasn't particularly sharp in his start in the NLDS, despite the fact that his team managed to get the win over the Dodgers in that game. He surrendered a pair of runs on five hits and three walks through 5 2/3 innings, not factoring in the decision. Miller's numbers this season were better at home than on the road, and better in day games than under the lights. That doesn't bode well for the 24 year old in San Francisco tonight.

The loss of Yadier Molina is a big blow for the Cardinals, and even if he tries to play, you know he'll be nowhere near 100%. All the pressure is on St. Louis, and it's going to be tough to come back against a savvy San Francisco team that has won seven of their last eight home games in the post-season.

Take SF.

'ALCS!'

Kansas City Royals have a 3-0 lead in this best-of-seven ALCS and can clinch a trip to the Fall Classic with a victory on Wednesday. Royals 7-0 this postseason try to close it out handing the ball to Jason Vargas. The left-hander shaky down the stretch with one win in eight starts carries an 11-10 record 3.71 ERA to the hill. Vargas did not face Baltimore this season but does have 9 career starts vs O's tossing for LAA/SEA (3-5 TSR). Vargas trades pitches with Miguel Gonzalez heading to the mound 10-9 on the year with a 3.23 ERA. Gonzalez faced K.C. once this season giving up 4 runs over 6 frames getting tagged with a loss which gives the hurler a career 1-2 team start record vs Royals. Although Royals have been dominant this post-season hard to envision the best team in baseball being swept. A couple of telling baseball betting stats for 'Under' gamblers. Both teams have made a recent habit of playing 'Under' against each other at Kauffman Stadium (1-7 O/U), O's have played 'Under' in 7 of Gonzalez's last 8 starts, Vargas' teams were 8-0 'Under' vs Baltimore.
