i read "where men win with glory" and since tillman kept a journal it provides true insight into his beliefs, including political. he was not "speaking out against the war" but was dismayed to be sent to Iraq instead of Afghanistan. He wanted to fight Al Queda, not groups of "insurgents" that had nothing to do with 9/11 and he was completely against allowing the bush administration to use him as some GI Joe hero, as they wanted to do. All of these were private thoughts kept in a diary and nothing ever voiced publicly...the only people with any knowledge of this beyond the diary were his brother and wife. And Pat Tillman was in all likelihood................ A Democrat.
There is stories from people he served with about him speaking out against the war, against Bush and encouraging guys he served with to vote for Kerry in 2004.
that being said he was certainly not a political person although both sides have tried to claim them for their own. His brother, who served in the same unit and went through all pre-war training with Pat, has spoken out against Bush and the war in Iraq but Pat never openly did, and it's pretty clear from the book he would never do so
