They need to do one of these docs on the '99 lockout, that is a story that has never been told. The players thought it was going to be cancelled and it abruptly ended so everyone was woefully out of shape, probably had been getting coked out banging strippers for months and the play was just awful. Scoring went from 99ppg to 91ppg, this was the 1st generation of guys to make big $ so a lot of those guys weren't handling it as well to begin with.

Now the players mostly gentrified rich kids with parents that have credentialed athletic backgrounds so this likely could never happen again.

Jordan was a piece of shit. Would never have won anything without PIPPIN. Lets call him THREE STEP JORDAN. His father was killed, because of him.

true about jordan's father but pippen was just an average player who benefited from jordan being double and triple teamed.

Even for conspiracy theorists, Jordan getting his dad killed is a reach.

He got shot by two basic thugs.

I'd have to see what metro thinks

Ok.

You missed the "Bad Boys" pistons and then Jordan's bulls finally taking them out.
You also missed those classic eastern conference playoff battles with the bulls (yes, the east was good then) and Jordan being the SOLE reason why many Hall of Famers DONT have rings
now that was some basketball , that was ' playground ' / blacktop basketball ..... not the pussy:poop: shit you see today

What do you guys think about the rumor about Jordan’s suspension or retirement from the game for a year and a half. Whichever it was. I’m a believer that he was doing the Pete Rose thing. Betting on his own team. Probably lost his ass in golf and it probably motivated him knowing he had 80K on the line or so....thoughts?

Well, if there was any doubt you were just here to troll, you've made it crystal clear.

Either that, or you're just plain retarded.

I think he was just mentally drained/bored with it. They had just won 3 straight titles.

Another thing people forget is the players weren't making that much money back then, Jordan was only making like 3M a year in 1993 so it wasn't like he was walking away from 25 mill (which is why no one really retires early anymore), when he cameback from sabbatical is when player salaries really started to take off and he started making 30M his last few years.

That Stern conspiracy theory doesn't make much sense, MJ was the NBA cash cow. They wouldn't ask him to step away from the game at a time when growth was so important. He only took like 18 months off, he was back by March '95, so it isn't like he laid low for an extended period of time either.

Fair points. But it may have been the only option if there were rumblings about it at the time or if Stern was worried about it getting out. Nba has people in all places. They know when that shit is happening.

He saw what happened to Rose. It was a small price to pay to avoid something catastrophic. I just find it hard to believe he would stop playing willingly. I get he used to play baseball when he was young....but he wasn’t good at that shit lol

I don’t get the logic of playing a sport you’re not really any good at. Or at least comparably you’re not. He’s on the top of the world in Basketball. And he’s just bored? Lol I dno I hope they touch on it in this doc.

I mean he was shooting free throws blind so maybe he did get bored. Haha

Thats the rumor/conspiracy. Was never a secret that Jordan was a HUGE gambler. Maybe Stern was afraid that he would "fix" games or be indebted with the mob? Remember, Pete Rose NEVER bet against the reds.

I remember hearing a story that during the 1992 dream team they were having a card game (jordan/barkley/others) and there were 10's of thousands on the table and they had to stop to go to practice and the $$ was on the table. The cleaning people saw this and were too scared to clean the room

His salary was garbage back then but he made MILLIONS from endorsements

I was going to comment on this .. the stuff in the media is nonesense .. the only slightly realistic one is that he refused to point shave a game, form what I understand that is true .. however there was NO amount he couldnt/wouldnt pay .. and his punishment wouldve been getting knee capped ( ala Nancy Kerrigan ) not having his father killed .. jordans fathers death was a tragedy , thats all. as far as Jordan owing people for gambling .. pete rose owed and was over his head wayyyyy more than Jordan

Let me clarify further .. his punishment wouldve been getting kneecapped , if all else failed .. he wouldve gotten the message , and paid up, long before it got to that point

When the bulls had road trips, they used to bet big $$ on who would be the first one to get their bags.

I think they've even had videos of the team bus where they are sitting in the isle seats and all the $$ on the floor
