I never questioned them paying. They have a well earned rep paying players.

My point was about the value of the RX (and Major) forums. What value do the forums have when a site could be down and no one posts? Shrink made a point about advertising rates for RX going up to assure posters they were getting quality books, while at the same time he must have been telling advertisers that the site will drive a lot of traffic to their books.

So, 2 hours after my original post, not a single person has addressed the actual point of my post regarding the non-activity or the value of the RX and Major forums.

Java-

Being that he was the only one to bring it up makes me think it is an isolated incident. But what the hell do I know??

I like arizona +11 tomorrow.

java,

though im no longer associated with the rx, maybe i can answer your question...

when i worked here, i spoke with books regularly regarding the number of postups they recieved from the rx. a new book on the site usually averaged 35-50 new signups per month for the first 6 months, then dropped off to around 25 thereafter.

books that were "very active" on the forums were seeing as many as 100-150 new signups in a month sometimes.

also, keep in mind that these were postups that they were positive came from the rx. most books estimated at least 10-20 more were coming in from there forum advertising that they didnt realize came from here.

hope this answers your question...

RPM-
Congratulation! You are the first poster that actually addressed my question regarding the usefulness of the RX. Thanks for the insight.

Brewster-
It wasn't completely isolated, though. Around 8:30pm, a friend I haven't talked to in over a month called me out of the blue to ask about their site being down for a long while. Even though I am no longer associated with the book, this guy called me to explain to him the cryptic error message (which I saw as well). While I was on the phone with him, I checked out both RX and Major to see if they had any further information. I was very disappointed that other than Lander noticing the problem, (three hours earlier) neither forum had any information.

I rely on the RX and Major to explain the difference between a book having a power failure, a DNS attack, or a minor glitch. As a result of this lack of information, I was as in the dark as my friend.

It seemed to me that the RX and Major were the ones that were isolated, thus my criticism of the forum.

This is where Lander posted the error message he saw on their site. My original post just followed his. I didn't want to start a separate thread about the problem.
(It escalated when Michael777 gave me a Dick Cheney.

Prescription Posters

We apologize for the internet problems experienced late yesterday and early this morning. The current problem is directly related to an internet bottleneck in San Jose, Costa Rica.

We are working on the problem around the clock.

If you have problems with the internet please call the Call Center at 866-371-9833.

Ill try to come back in a few hours for another update. If I dont get a chance to come back Im sure my ex-employee Java will update everyone(LOL). He seems to never miss a thread about Wagerweb.

Sorry for the inconvenience guys.

Does that make Lander an ex-employee for pointing out the original problem?

I didn't even know about it until someone called me requesting my computer opinion. He said he was unable to reach Wagerweb customer support.

RPM, you (an ex-RX insider) were the only one to actually answer my original question which was about the forum itself.

BTW, the type of error message Lander displayed is an INTERNAL error message that occurs when the webserver cannot connect to the database. Since the database is usually on the same server or an adjacent server on the same network, I fail to see how the problem Lander reported could be Internet bottleneck related (as claimed).

This type of error usually occurs if the database is:
a) down for maintenance
b) disconnected from the network (bad hub, loose wire)
c) database runs out of disk space, or some similar software error
d) too many simultaneous connections have been made to the database and no new connections can be form (may be 'internet related' if under attack)

Of course, the "explanation" offered by Emperor Dave doesn't explain why wagerweb didn't post on the forum yesterday or how a "bottle neck" could cause this particular error message. Actually, if the server was getting overloaded, a bottleneck might help by reducing traffic.

Finally, by his "logic" I must appear to be an ex-employee of sportingbet as well to posters on Major, since I was all over that thread.

Lander is not an ex employee and you are not an ex employee of Sportingbet.

You are my ex-employee. You have openly stated this in previous threads.

If you read my post I was explaining to players the problem today. It was a bottleneck today and not a problem with the database.

I was not attacking you in this forum. I was stating the fact that you are an ex employee of Wageweb.

I find it odd that you are not a gambler or a player at any offshore sportsbook, however, you still find time to come here and partake in every Wagerweb discussion. You dont even follow or watch sports.

I would rather not use this site as a battleground. I was excited this season when the Shrink allowed us to be part of the site.

I enjoy reading the threads and have always been a long time visitor. We only picked a select few places to advertise and this site was at the top of our list.

Gentlemen,
I think Lander hit it right on the head by saying, "Oh man, this is like a kid waking up on Christmas morning ...**"

Now,
"Todays forecast" a little childish...

and I have several, most play these type of bets !

Is this place owned by a kid or what, get "real pal", we're "Money Makers" here not suckers !

Go try that @ some "OTHER" forum not working here son !

Wagerweb-
Never said I wasn't an ex-employee. I have been quite candid about that on both forums.

My original post was about the RX and Major forums, which I clarified several times, and not once said anything bad about Wagerweb.

As for the bottleneck, I was pointing out that it did not explain the error message of yesterday. I'm unware of any problems today.

I don't understand how a bottleneck in Costa Rica affects a direct satellite connection from the states?

This is hardly a topic worthy of battle, as my interest was more in the behavior of the RX itself. I was excited to see you advertising on both forums. I wonder if Areef was too?

Since we haven't spoken in a year and a half, you really don't know which sports books (including your own) that I gamble at or what software handicapping services I might provide to those that do.

Our internet is a combination of Costa Rican Fiber and Satellite. When you worked for us two years ago I believe we were strictly satellite.

The problem today was directly related to the fiber connection which runs through the Costa Rican network.

We havent spoken in a year and half. Perhaps I was wrong in assuming you wouldnt have interest here at the Prescription.

Im sure its not a secret as to the services you provide offshore. There might be readers interested in knowing who you work with and the services offered?

Im sure the Handicapping services would interest the readers.

Wagerweb-
Glad to hear you finally got the fiber link. I remember you looking into one beamed from a line-of-sight microwave link a few miles away. Sounds pretty cool, though, having the extra bandwidth.

I generally work with people recommended by family (though I did get burned by that once).

From a Handicapping standpoint, my expertise lies more the support role of extracting information and improvement of spreadsheets. I'd rather improve the speed/effficiency of someone's software to get them an answer faster or give them a new report, than be responsible for the actual answer or method. I wouldn't want to insert my subjective opinion into their handcapping.

Before anyone accuses me.. I have absolutely no idea who human hurricane is.

Human,
I used to be the programmer there two years ago. Were you there then, and do I know you? If you are trying to keep your identity secret from Wagerweb, then any comment that I would recognize, they would too.

You can private message me as "Java" on the majorwager.com forum. I don't appear to have private messaging privileges here.

Moonlight,
Your comment suggests ex-employee at book in the mall.
