Paying lawyers? It isn't like he has the power to shut them down. He is just giving the aggrieved a voice to have their time in court.
If the courts and society deem releasing sex tapes, constant slander and non-stop privacy violations are OK, then nothing will come of it.

How did he limit the free press? They released a sex tape on Hulk Hogan, Hogan had a huge lawsuit on his hands but needed financial backing to take on a media giant. Being one of the 32593295 people that Gawker has defamed over the years, motivated him to take action when the opportunity presented itself.

Whatever you want to call Hogan's issue, defaming, freedom of press...Did the court not rule in his favor and award him 9 figures? So clearly the courts found that Hogan's case had merit. It wasn't like Thiel bought off a jury mafia style. It was still decided in a court of law.
If it was deemed there was no violation, then Hogan wouldn't have gotten 120 million or whatever it was.
