For me personally, being invited to the WH, no matter what POTUS, to be recognized for my athletic accomplishment would be an honor of a lifetime.

I’d stop lifting weights and running sprints for a day to participate.

Exactly

I just think it is awful of teammates, organizations and universities to deprive any player who does want to go because of their political views. I would have gone to see Clinton, Bush, Obama and didn't much care for any of them. Once in a lifetime opportunity and you never know when your opinion may change anyway. For instance, I didn't like Trump as a Presidential candidate but if he continues down his current path, and gets another 4 years, he will likely be the best President of my adult lifetime. That Trump has been a better President for blacks than Obama empirically is unquestionable, and at some point that will be acknowledged. There is already a minor exodus by blacks from D to R. As it becomes more clear and as the Ds replace black victimhood with women and illegal immigrant victimhood, the exodus will only increase.

but basic point is that it is a selfish move by the ones who don't want to go

Agreed. The truly sad part is you are depriving those who want to go the opportunity. I'm sure those individuals wouldn't dare dissent for fear of retribution, so they're just SOL. Opportunity of a lifetime stolen.
