Ortiz is a longshot to win it but:

PS. Flip flop Manny and Ortiz in the order and see what happens. Ortiz is one of the reasons Manny gets pitches to hit. Of course thats baseball, take Maris and Mantle as an example - with the Mick batting 4th to Roger's 3rd. Maris hit 61 in 61.

Manny may only get a 3 or 4 more at-bats on the season as he is only playing half the games with a sore hamstring and will be rested for playoffs.

RIGHT as of this moment.........MANNY is your winner.

Vlady a very close second and closing.

Manny, .310, 43HR, 130RBI, 108 runs, 82BB, 123K, 2SB, 4 assists
Vladdy .338, 38HR, 124RBI, 123 runs, 51BB, 74K, 15SB, 13 assists

So basically..
Vlad:
- 28 pts high BA
- 15 more runs
- 49 fewer K's
- 13 more stolen bases
- 9 more outfield assist and much better defense

Manny:
- 5 more HR's and 6 more RBI
- 31 more BB's

Fish, how is Manny the winner as of this moment? Vlad wins the numbers game and as far as intangibles, I think it's pretyy clear he's more valuable to Anaheim's lineup as without either of them, Boston's is better.

Plus, take a look at Manny's BA...it has gone down each and every month (.388, .317, .299, .297, .290, .275). On the other hand, in this crucial month for this team, Vlad is hitting .371 with 10HR.

Manny led on Sept. 1, but Vlad has clearly flown by him, and unless Anaheim loses the next two games and misses the playoffs he is defiinitely the winner, and correctly so.

I think you could argue that at the plate they almost idenitcal this year -- Vlad with more hits and Manny with more power. And I think if you go beyond that, Vlad has the edge in speed, defense and intangibles.

So I've seen you say a couple times Manny is ahead. Why exactly do you think so?

I'd have to go with Guerrero....I think he will get the nod over Manny, Vlad is a more versatile all around player and he's known for being an all-around player...I think the writers will recognize this and give it to Vlad....Manny isn t known for being a team player (unfairly IMO, i think he got a bum rap over an isolated incident) and the writers never forget stuff like that...writers have a way of paying back players they feel are disgruntled and selfish, remember the year Albert Belle lost it to Frank Thomas..... Belle clearly was MVP, but lost to Thomas( no cup of coffee himself) but nowhere near the prick Belle was.

My Top 5

Vlad
Manny
Ichiro
Sheffield
Ortiz

I still make Manny the favorite because he plays for Boston and Vlady for Anaheim...........making Manny more in the public eye to the voters.

But like I said, Vlady is closing fast with the terrific season he is having, which may end up being better than Mannys..............it is very very close.

There's always next year, like in 75, 90-93, 99 &

If the votes were to be tabulated RIGHT NOW, I think you have the exact official finishing order.

Is there any doubt that Vlad is the MVP now? 2-run HR in today's clincher topping off a whopping month iof September. I don't even think it's debatable anymore. I don't see any chance Manny could get it over him.
