Blake Snell makes his return to the Rays Snell began the season with the Rays, but the left-hander struggled to pitch deep into games. Hoping to improve the situation, the Rays optioned him to Triple-A Durham on May 14.
The time in Durham was apparently just what Snell needed. The 24-year-old was 5-0 there with a 2.66 ERA, 61 strikeouts and 15 walks in seven starts.
The veteran Nova has established himself as a starter who goes deep into games. He's gone at least six innings in each of his 15 starts, and he's already at 103 innings (the Pirates' team leader in innings pitched last year was Jeff Locke, with 127 1/3).
Nova gave up four runs on 11 hits -- the most hits he has given up in nearly five years -- over seven innings Wednesday in a 4-2 loss at Milwaukee.
