No Saturday delivery will not be a nightmare. They are trying to get people to retire. A second round of 'early-outs' just became available after hardly anyone took it the first time. If they did away with Saturday delivery, even less people will retire early as that is the main thing that mailman do not like about their job. No mail on say Tuesday, would be the f----ing nightmare. I have been a carrier for 23 1/2 years. It is a hard job,
and most of the time you work your ass off. Battling the weather is not f----ing easy. The job has changed a lot. When I first started, you spent an average of about 4 hours sorting the mail, then 4 hours delivering it on the street. Now, the letters are sorted by machine, so you spend about 1 1/2
hours sorting mail and 6 1/2 on the street. It may not seem like much, but if you work OT that's about 8 hours on the street. Which in 90 degree heat is f---ing hard. I personally, like the job, but it's not for everybody. I would say about 80 % of the people I work with hate it.
A BIG, BIG problem for the Post Office has always been that they do not hire supervisors and managers outside the PO. They 'promote' from within and evryone either starts out as a carrier or a clerk. And if you are a complete f--k up, and can't put one foot in front of the other, they make you a supervisor. You can imagine what kind of problems that would cause. The place just wasn't managed right.
